Chengdu in Southwest China’s Sichuan province is grabbing a lot of attention lately, as it is hosting a number of international events. The latest global event of importance held in Chengdu was the 22nd World Route Development Forum, one of the prime annual events for the global civil aviation sector.
This was a four-day event ending on 27th September and attracted around 3500 delegates from airlines, airports, international organizations and government departments. It was a global platform for meeting, planning and discussing new and existing global air services. There were important speeches, a strategic summit, a world tourism summit, face-to-face meetings, exhibitions and folk performances.
The entire exhibition area was more than 40,000 square meters. Chengdu’s exhibition hall was 1,400 square meters, showcasing the city’s flight networks, aviation development and tourism and culture. In this event, Chengdu government signed agreement with six airlines for opening nine non-stop air routes departing from Chengdu. They are Air China, Hainan Airlines, Beijing Capital Airlines, Tibet Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Sichuan Airlines. Direct routes will be opened within a year and will fortify Chengdu’s network with Europe, Oceania, North America, Africa and the Middle East.
World Routes is considered the “Olympics” or “World Expo” for the worlds’ civil aviation industry and Chengdu is the second city on the Chinese mainland to host World Routes after Beijing.
