Originally from Hokkaido in Japan, Kazumi Inoue has lived on the Gold Coast for 19 years and now definitely calls Queensland home. Kazumi moved to Tasmania in 1988 and after graduating from university she moved to the Gold Coast.
While not a professional photographer (she has worked for a water sport company, law firm, family business and now works at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary), she was invited by @Queensland to be one of the first guest curators of their Instagram account in 2013. Follow Kazumi on instagram.
“It was an awesome experience. I also hosted an Instameet with my work Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary last year. Some of my photos also travelled to Glasgow during the Commonwealth Games last year to be displayed in a Queensland themed photo display in the nearby shopping centre,” says Kazumi.
That’s pretty awesome for someone who started taking photos with an iPhone three years ago.
What is your photography philosophy?
Hold a camera and just let my eyes do the work. I love what my eyes see. It is my hobby which plays a big role in my everyday life. I was never good at expressing myself but photography helps me express myself without telling too much. Photos tell thousand words without a language barrier.
What was your most memorable trip in Queensland?
My most memorable trip in Queensland would be my last trip to the Sunshine Coast a little while back. While I was running a family business, it was very difficult to even take a little break. Whenever we needed a little getaway, the Sunshine Coast was always the destination as there are lots of different places to see. It was way before I took up photography. Next time I get to go up, I’m pretty sure my memory card will be very very full!
Where was your last trip?
My last trip was to the Scenic Rim. It was a road trip and a day trip. It was like checking out the places to come back for a longer stay.
Where would you take your Mum?
My mum would be happy wherever I go. I’d take her to Montville if I had a chance now as she loves exploring little art and craft shops. Eumundi Markets on the Sunshine Coast is great too.
Beach or the desert?
I would say beach. That’s my home at the moment so will feel more comfortable and relaxed.
Do you prefer the city or the countryside?
I’m a country girl so I definitely prefer the countryside. I love the scenery, nature, farms. It’s so relaxing. I’m in fact planning to go on a road trip to the countryside this weekend.
Do you have any photography tips?
I’m still a learner as you can see but really enjoy taking photos of what my eyes see. I try to look at compositions, different subjects, the third rule but I just rely on my eyes.
Favourite beach?
My favourite beach must be Currumbin Beach on the Gold Coast. It is a beautiful beach in the beautiful part of the Gold Coast plus I have been driving past the beach every single day to go to work. It doesn’t matter how many times I have been there, the beach is always different.
Favourite town?
I have to say my home town, Gold Coast. It is a city that is not too big not too small. We are so close to the beach but also to the hinterlands. I’m very happy and proud to call it home.
Most romantic place you’ve been to?
This is a hard question as wherever my partner takes me, it just becomes romantic lol As both of us enjoy photography, we tend to share beautiful sunrises/sunsets together. Springbrook is nice and North Burleigh Beach is the closest spot that brings back those fuzzy, warm feelings as we did lots of sunrise walks there together.
When things get too much where do you go?
The Sunshine Coast, where I just enjoy the different scenery and feeling there.
Favourite spa?
Not sure about this one as I haven’t been to one for a long time.
Three places on your bucket list
1-Outback Queensland for sure
2-Capricorn Region
3-Tropical North Queensland
My list can go on as I haven’t had enough opportunity to explore this beautiful state of Queensland!
