Imtiaz Ali is a director known for his unique storytelling. His latest, Tamasha starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone hits theaters today. Quite like most of his movies, travel also forms an intrinsic part of Tamasha. Indeed, from Jab We Met to Highway, Imtiaz Ali’s films are all about the journey — literal and metaphorical. And so as Tamasha opens in screens across the country today, we take a look at all those Imtiaz Ali movies that made us want to undertake a new journey!

1. Tamasha (2015)

The latest in the line of about half a dozen films directed by Imtiaz Ali, Tamasha is a love story set in the beautiful French islands of Corsica. Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone meet here, have a blast and fall head over heels in love. But as is wont, all journeys come to an end and the two must go back to their separate lives. Will they have a happily ever after? We are dying to find out. But the trailers and the songs reveal the beauty of Corsica that seems to have everything — fabulous beaches, hiking trails, dense forests, peaks, valleys, and more. Don’t you want to head to this island right away? We most certainly do!

2. Highway (2014)

Alia Bhatt’s character Veera Tripathi is taken on an unexpected journey when Mahabir Bhati (Randeep Hooda) kidnaps her and hits the road in a truck to avoid getting caught. Along the way, Veera falls for Mahabir and no longer wants to go back to her normal life. Even as Highway was applauded for showcasing the Stockholm Syndrome in a sensitive way, the movie is also a visual masterpiece. Highway takes us along the scenic roads of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Kashmir and captures some of the most stunning landscapes of our country most beautifully.

3. Rockstar (2011)

The story of Janardhan aka Jordan (Ranbir Kapoor) who wants to become a rock star but is told he needs to suffer a tragedy before he can come up with something good and be successful. In the process he befriends Heer (Nargis Fakhri) and falls for her, gets hurt and writes songs that make him popular. She comes back to his life again when he goes abroad for a concert. The film follows the journey of one man who goes from Janardhan to Jordan and takes you past the various landmarks in Delhi and all the way to Prague.

4. Love Aaj Kal (2009)

Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal travels not just through space but also through time. Exploring the idea of how love has changed over generations, Love Aaj Kal tells the story of Meera and Jai that begins in London and flits between Delhi, Kolkata and San Francisco. Love Aaj Kal may not necessarily boast of stunning backdrops like those of Highway and Tamasha but Ali captures the cityscapes of some of the biggest metropolises around the world as they reflect the moods of the film’s lead characters.

5. Jab We Met (2007)

How can one forget the epic journey of Geet (Kareena Kapoor) and Aditya (Shahid Kapoor) who find themselves being attracted to each other despite (or because?) of their vastly different personalities? The carefree Geet runs into the depressed business scion, Aditya on a train and thus begins an unlikely journey of two souls from Bhatinda and Mumbai to Shimla and beyond. Shot in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Mumbai, Jab We Met reminds you just how much fun traveling can be when you find the right partner.
