Verboten is also proud to announce the launch of its new membership program. With an opening year that saw the club voted “Best Dance Club” in Village Voice’s 2014 Best of NYC Readers’ Poll and named “best club in America” by Matthew Dear, Verboten is poised to continue leading Brooklyn’s clubbing renaissance as what Rolling Stone calls “Williamsburg’s newest music mecca.”
Music Lineup
Verboten introduces the Verboten Live series with Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons, a daring new project that utilizes all manner of brave new sounds; listen to their first single “Lovers’ Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya)” released last year. Damian Lazarus, who played Verboten’s opening night, makes history again with The Ancient Moons making their US debut at the club. Also performing live are San Francisco’s PillowTalk, manipulating pop melodies, classic R&B, soul and boogie into the loose rhythms of house music. The event is hosted by Bespoke Musik, whose residents Bedouin – composed of Brooklyn’s own Tamer Malki and Rami Deejay – recently released their ethereal new EP ‘Whispering Words of Wisdom’ on Kindisch.
Verboten resident Carl Craig is described as a creative visionary, an electronic music icon, an esteemed Grammy-nominated composer, a world-class DJ and an ambassador for his native city Detroit. The prolific producer/DJ has few equals in terms of the artistry, influence, and diversity of his music. His remixes discography boasts some of the most desirable names in music, making him one of the most sought after remixers in the world, and his Planet E imprint has given a home to a wide range of Detroit-based artists. He is joined by Luciano, who, ranking as one of today’s most influential and groundbreaking world traveling DJs and performers, always been at the forefront of techno and house. The forward thinking Swiss-Chilean innovator and Cadenza Records boss has brought his own eclectic and truly unique blend of electronic music and passionate Latin grooves to crowds all over the planet.
Fellow Verboten resident Maya Jane Coles is somewhat of an enigma in today’s music world; on a typical Maya Jane Coles record, Maya will have written, produced, engineered, arranged, mixed and performed every element of the track; sometimes top-lining and, on most occasions, even designing the sleeve artwork too. Life has been changing quite dramatically for the British-Japanese, producer/DJ; having recently released her biggest body of work to date — her debut album, Comfort — things look set to keep on changing.
Culture
As a thank you, Verboten offers two free sessions of its celebrated Willkommen Deep House yoga on March 9 and 10. For these special dates, Willkommen features special musical performances to bring together mind, body and music. The classes take advantage of Verboten’s large, skylit Control Room and cushioned, reclaimed wood floor, and feature Lululemon yoga mats. Smoothies, water, and coconut water are available. Says Huffington Post, “Deep House Yoga takes “wellness clubbing” a step further, creating an opportunity for full-body contemplation in an environment that otherwise may feel incongruous to meditation and reflection. But the unlikely combination worked.”
Voted one of the top 10 burlesque shows on the planet by Travel Channel, Wasabassco Burlesque celebrates the first anniversary of Verboten with a very special Sin On Heels show, featuring scintillating performances by its beautiful cast, who have been a staple at Verboten since the beginning. NYC’s most interesting people know that this is the place to start your Saturday night date — with high octane striptease performances from the nation’s top-tier talent, incredible atmosphere, all curated and hosted by Sydni Deveraux, plus a full menu of Verboten’s decadent small plates and craft cocktails.
Revive yourself at Verboten’s special anniversary Sunday DJ Brunch on March 15, a day-long party featuring Verboten resident DJs and $1 dollar specials on food and drinks. Verboten brunch takes place in its beautiful skylit Cabaret Bar featuring rotating art exhibits, a crisp Martin Audio sound system, and delicious brunch fare and specialty cocktails.
