One name making waves is Australian-born Wave Racer who landed on the scene with his 2013 single “Stoopid/Rock U Tonite” and a bootleg remix of Ghost Town DJs “My Boo.” Becoming one of the most played artists of 2013 on the popular Australian national broadcaster Triple J, while frequently appearing on BBC Radio 1, Wave Racer’s blend of pixelated future-funk has taken Australia by storm. This month he brings his waves back to the states fresh off of his summer USA tour.

Philadelphia natives Tyler Minford and Logan Zoghby are Louis Futon. Refusing to be defined by specific genres, the duo draws inspiration from jazz, R&B, and hip hop, and have been experimenting with the latest future bass sound that has been blowing up on the blogsphere. Their distinct sound can be easily heard in their remixes of Mos Def’s “Ms. Fat Booty,” and their latest original song “Sir Rock.” “Sir Rock” leaves listeners in a trance with it’s vibey, wavey sound, and is set to appear on their forthcoming EP.

Making waves through outer space and back, the secretive future R&B production don known as SevnthWonder takes his production style cues from the likes of Kanye, J Dilla, and DJ Premiere, and has grown into his own hybrid style of sampling and creation. Since his first releases in March of 2013, he’s quickly amassed 2.5 million plays and multiple BBC Radio 1 features without signs of slowing. His style ranges from R&B, to hip-hop, around to house, and back again in a style that throws genre truly to the wind in favor of exploration into the yet uncharted territories of electronic music’s future.

Powerslug reigns over New York’s dance scene producing a unique brand to Gotham City’s young party elites. With a Balearic sensibility to create unforgettable dance parties, he is as envied as he is arrogant. His foot soldiers Headband and Hooligan are inviting all artists and fans alike to join his cause today.

Alex English has proved himself alongside acts like A-Trak, Boys Noize, Crookers, Steve Aoki, The Bloody Beetroots, Justice, MSTRKRFT, Deadmau5 and Chromeo, and more. Having played in almost every major city from the waterfront in Brooklyn, to SXSW, and Japan, he is now a known veteran in NYC nightlife music culture.

November 7 Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival DJ Shadow / Cut Chemist – Renegades of Rhythm [early show]

The Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival descends upon Brooklyn again, and Verboten is happy to welcome them for three big events.

Regarded as one of the most influential and consistently innovative artists to emerge in the last 20 years, DJ Shadow is widely credited as a key figure in developing the experimental hip-hop style associated with the London-based Mo’ Wax label. DJ Shadow’s first full-length, Endtroducing…, was released to international acclaim and deemed by Time Magazine as one of the top 100 albums since 1954. DJ Shadow most recently released an ambitious and comprehensive retrospective of his finest recordings entitled Reconstructed: The Best of DJ Shadow and Reconstructed: The Definitive DJ Shadow.

Cut Chemist has developed a taste for music and rhythms from around the world while keeping his ethic for the hip hop tradition. He founded the rap group Jurassic 5 and helped form the Grammy award winning Latin funk outfit, Ozomatli. In the late 90s and 2000s, Cut Chemist also created the groundbreaking all 7″ size record mix series with DJ Shadow: Brainfreeze, Product Placement and The Hard Sell, all of which went on to become staples with both record collectors and turntablists all over the world.  In 2004, Cut Chemist released a solo album on Warner Bros entitled The Audiences Listening, which highlighted his music sensibilities as both a rap song producer and an instrumentalist, with his single “What’s The Altitude” becoming one of the most viewed videos on YouTube in 2006.

The duo’s Renegades of Rhythm tour returns to New York as they team up as a part of the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival to present a special tribute to Afrika Bambaataa, spinning the well-loved and well-worn vinyl from the record collection of the founding father of hip-hop himself.

November 7 Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival: The Gaslamp Killer / Golf Clap

LA’s William Bensussen, aka The Gaslamp Killer, is many things at once. The San Diego native is a bonafide one-off; an artist and human being that can never be repeated. With an unparalleled energy, the DJ, producer, promoter and curator brings a different level of performance and showmanship to electronic music. Gaslamp Killer has been putting Southern California on the music map alongside Daddy Kev with their beat mecca Low End Theory. His iconoclastic attitude has led him beyond LA to far-reaching corners of the globe, one stage at a time. Holding a collection of well over 13,000 vinyl records, GLK’s untamed, unpredictable sets take traditional genres of rock into the outer reaches of hip-hop and the deep into the cosmic pressure of the heaviest electronic beats, with plenty of obscurity and bizarreness in-between.

Recently voted “Best Electronic Artist in Detroit” by the readers of Real Detroit Weekly for their Best of 2014 issue, Golf Clap is not only known for their impressive discography and crowd pleasing DJ sets, but also for their unpredictable and incredibly entertaining antics. Their guest mixes for Rinse FM, Ministry Of Sound, and Pulse Radio have caught the ears of discerning listeners around the world and their fresh approach to what they refer to as “peak-hour deep house” has made them a crowd favorite from city to city. Their debut release, “Another Way,” shot straight to the number one position on Traxsource, and finished the year in the Top 10 singles of 2013.

November 8 Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival: Rebel Rave with Damian Lazarus / Aphrohead / Francesca Lombardo [live] / Fur Coat / jozif

From the moment he spun his first record, London-born DJ and label owner Damian Lazarus has given listeners something exciting and unusual. Driven by an almost childlike curiosity, a vivid imagination and wicked sense of humor, he’s used his role as a DJ, Crosstown Rebels label owner and now musician to nurture and share the most exciting and experimental music on the planet. Drawn to the darkness, but buoyed by the light, ever ready to embrace new ideas and different perspectives on music and the dancefloor, Lazarus is always ahead of the curve, with a wry smile on his face and a neat trick up his sleeve. His critically acclaimed debut artist album Smoke The Monster Out steps outside the realm of what one might hear in a Lazarus DJ set. Featuring his own vocals and riding a vast variety of influences, Lazarus demonstrates his keen ear and meticulous attention to detail in a collection of heartfelt, grievously honed tracks delivered straight from the soul.

DJ and label-owner Felix Staling Jr. aka Aphrohead has gained fame under a number of aliases including Felix Da Housecat. With a career spanning two decades, Aphrohead is back on Crosstown Rebels with a limited edition, one sided 12″, Grown Man Cry, and a brand new album to follow that will set the underground techno world alight.

London-based DJ Francesca Lombardo first surfaced under the Jackie Misfit guise. With this alias, she DJed at various underground parties plus clubs like Brixton Academy and The Drom in the English capital, released on labels like Lokomotiv Recordings and started her own imprint, Echolette Records. Now, this unique electronic sculptress is working under her given name. Already having a couple of releases on the genre defining label Crosstown Rebels, Francesca Lombardo is making major waves in clubland and on the Beatport charts.

Hailing originally from Venezuela, and now based in Barcelona, Fur Coat’s story is one of passion for salsa and soul, blended with love for electronic music. It’s a tale of deep, dark, driven beats and rolling grooves that both encapsulates the mind and moves the feet. It was this love of music that by chance in 2004 brought Sergio Munoz and Israel Sunshine together and led to a musical intertwining which would drape itself royally over the shoulders of the music industry.

A name that has been gaining increasing attention from the who’s who of the electronic music community is London-based DJ and producer jozif. Since his 2010 releases on Wolf + Lamb and Vitalik gained mass support alongside an RA podcast mixed entirely of his own productions and edits, he has been charming the pants off the international circuit with his productions and DJ sets alike.

November 9 Sunday Brunch: Playdate

Wind down your weekend with a funday at Verboten’s Sunday brunch. Decadent food and cocktails served 12-8 in Verboten’s sunny Cabaret Bar, with music provided by the crew from Playdate, a new, curated experience of sound and art, made by a collective of artists, musicians, and friends to bring quality electronic music to New York.

November 13 Zeitgeist: Kidnap Kid

After a knockout 2012 (where his debut single “Vehl” on Black Butter Records was dubbed “Best Electronic Song of 2012” by iTunes) and 2013, Kidnap Kid returns with a new single “Stronger” where he applies his singular touch to a six-and-half-minute dark and emotionally charged house epic. His productions have singled him out as one of the UK’s hottest up and comers.

November 13 Planet Cognac Internet Ghetto Tour: Pixelord [live] / 813 [live] / SAB / M!NT

Best known for his Gultskra Artikler moniker, Moscow-based Pixelord has explored multiple styles and approaches, with consistently unpredictable output. His latest remixes and originals showcase a futuristic, complex, and energizing sound. For his U.S debut, Pixelord’s live set will surely take listeners on a funky, lively journey.

Moscow-based producer 813 describes the music he plays during his live sets as hypercolor/hyperdetail R&B, sometimes using children’s synthesizers, and tape cassettes. 813 has played alongside the likes of Hudson Mohawke, MF Doom, Moby and more.

Brooklyn’s M!NT creates an emotive and captivating listening experience that ranges between all sorts of tempos and genres. Producing what he describes as melodic, hip-hop inspired, cinematic bass music, his forthcoming EP ‘Pay It Forward’ is set to be released this fall.

November 14 Eric Volta / Bedouin

Cosmic, psychedelic and extraordinary, Eric Volta’s music is as far out as the man behind it. Following the success of “Love Your Illusion” (which was named one of the Top 10 Best of 2013 by DJ Mag and Top 10 Charted Tracks of November 2013 on Resident Advisor), Eric Volta continues to satisfy eardrums with his release “Laying In My Garden Is Your Cold Soul” available now for free download here.

Bedouin is Tamer Malki and Rami Deejay’s musical brainchild. The Brooklyn-based duo returns to Verboten after a summer of appearances across Europe and the US. Their debut EP ‘Mirage’ is available now on Beatport, and has been dubbed “brilliant” by Pete Tong.

November 15 Benoit & Sergio [live] / Subb-an [live] / Niki McNally

Drawing from influences mostly uncommon to house and techno, Berlin and DC-based production duo Benoit + Sergio captivate with their production and lyricism. Their EP ‘Your Darkness’ showcases the pair’s knack for crafting playful, melodic house and techno, capitalizing on catchy melodic lines, vocal samples, and dance floor-directed rhythms. The pair’s next EP is titled ‘That’s The Party Talking,’ is out December 10 on Culprit.

Subb-an’s rapid rise to prominence as a DJ, producer and one of the most exciting new British live acts of recent years is testament to his hard work, natural talent and wholehearted commitment to electronic music. Named as DJ Mag’s “Best Breakthrough DJ” in 2011, Subb-an’s prodigious studio talents have seen him release on Crosstown Rebels, Spectral, Saved and My Favorite Robot, and deliver much lauded remixes of Jamie Woon, Lana Del Rey, Noir & Haze and Hollis P Monroe.

Verboten resident Niki McNally has taken the dancefloors of NYC by storm. She has built herself a wide following through her energetic, musical sound, crafting a style that fuses together spaced out drums, melody, and hypnotic basslines. Since 2008 she has had regular appearances at some of New York’s top venues, and with plenty of other high-profile appearances to her name, Niki McNally is definitely one DJ making serious waves in the NYC’s electronic music scene.

November 16 RVDIOVCTIVE: Todd Terry

One of the world’s most celebrated figures in dance music, Todd Terry is the New York City-based, Grammy-nominated DJ, producer, and remixer who has produced multiple top 10 crossover hits on the UK pop charts including Jungle Brothers “I’ll House You,” Todd Terry “Keep On Jumpin’,” Royal House “Can You Party.” and Todd Terry “Somethin’ Going On.” He has also remixed platinum artists including Bloc Party, Rolling Stones, Shakira, Michael Jackson, Garbage, Usher, Tina Turner, Jamiroquai, Janet Jackson, and “Missing” by Everything But The Girl, which became one of the biggest crossover club hits of all time. Welcome to the church of house music presided over by Todd the God.

November 19 Zeitgeist: The 2 Bears / Curses / Pixelife

Raff Rundell and Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard are The 2 Bears. Since forming in 2009, The 2 Bears have made a name for themselves with their personalized sound. Rundell provides vocals while Goddard lays down beats. With several releases already on Southern Fried, the duo is back with a new album, The Night Is Young available now on iTunes.

Infusing dark house and techno influences with ambient and cinematic soundscapes, Curses makes music that works in all settings and transcends genres. Label-head of Safer At Night, Curses is readying a new album. The teaser for its first single “Trouble” featuring Syf premiered on BBC Radio 1 in October.

Pixelife sets are smooth but raw, flowing in the grey area between house, acid and techno. His EP ‘Waves of Titan’, his first release on Throne of Blood, is available now on Beatport.

November 20 Pop Gun presents Les Sins

Les Sins is the dance project of Chaz Bundick (also known as Toro y Moi). His forthcoming LP Michael, [November 4] on Company Records explores classic dance and pop music traditions. Catchy, repetitive vocal hooks gel with beats and synth work influenced by house, techno, French electronic, and ’90s hip-hop production. Listen to the album via NPR here.

November 21 Jamie Jones / Lovecraft

One of techno’s biggest stars, Jamie Jones is part of a new guard of house and techno DJs who resonate as artists, party people, DJs, and live acts. Jamie was voted the #1 DJ by Resident Advisor, and the demand for his signature brand of bass-oriented and groove-driven house grew exponentially. Jamie has always worked to expand the musical spectrum of his industry; from his first release of “Amazon” in 2006 to his acclaimed Essential Mix filled with rare cosmic disco and timeless underground house on BBC Radio 1 BBC. Consistent to his production quality are low wobbly basslines, dissonant and hypnotic keyboard lines, crisp snares, and the aforementioned steady groove. Jamie Jones is renowned for his innovative music; his cross genre band, Hot Natured; and his pioneering label, Hot Creations.

Producer, remixer, DJ, and party thrower, Mike Fisher aka Lovecraft knows a thing or two about dance music. The Boston native’s natural instinct and formal musical background helped launch his career as an engineer for some of the most influential acts in electronic music. As a DJ, his mixing skills and knack for track selection have secured him gigs across the country alongside some of the major players in today’s underground movement. As a producer Mike has released music on labels like No. 19, Nurvous and Stranjjur as well as having remixed the likes of Art Department, Maxxi Soundsystem, Michael & Mattis and more.

November 22 Trust: Nick Curly / Guti [live] / Anja Schneider / Samsara Brothers

After six years of running the respected Cécille Records, German DJ and producer Nick Curly’s productions and the music released on his labels has come to be known as the Mannheim sound – a deep and tracky tech house style that is loopy and involving, folding you into the groove with each rotation as various elements of soul and melodic beauty infuse the spaces left behind. His latest EP ‘Trust’ is available now on Beatport.

“Drawing up his own way” is the philosophy of Guti. He shined in the world of jazz at early age, he demonstrates to be a sensible and intense pianist, with his own language, playing in some of the biggest stadiums and winning gold records in South America in the last decade as a rock musician. In 2006, life took him to a new path: techno music. Curious, ironic and creative, fusing electronic music with his jazz and Latin roots, Guti quickly became one of the most eager and interesting producers of the Latino American house scene. He has shown his amazing live set in the best clubs of the world touring as a Desolat artist. Currently his music is also running on Crosstown Rebels, Raum, Musik, Wolf & Lamb and Supplement Facts.

From her beginnings in radio Anja Schneider’s ascension through the ranks has been fueled by her strong work ethic, sharp tastemaker instinct, and innate musicality. Starting out as a producer for KissFM, Anja became a radio persona in her own right in 2000 for Fritz Radio. Armed with an engaging presentation style and impeccable taste, Anja’s ‘Under the Blue Moon’ program – which still airs to this day – resonated with Berlin’s music-loving masses and propelled her forward into a career as a club DJ.

Long time staples in the NYC house music scene, brothers Corey and Ryan Negrin, known together as Samsara Brothers, have been busy lighting up Manhattan’s most prestigious dance floors for over 17 years. Pulling from a variety of different influences, the boys move and educate every crowd they encounter with their ability to effortlessly cross multiple genres within a set.

November 26 Thanksgiving Eve: Green Velvet vs. Cajmere / Patrick Topping

For an international audience reawakening to the influence of Chicago house during the 1990s, Curtis A. Jones acted as quite a renaissance leader. Besides donning his straightahead house guise Cajmere and a flamboyant, neon-haired acid-house alter-ego named Green Velvet for several of the most memorable underground house tracks of the decade (including “Preacher Man,” “Answering Machine” “Brighter Days” and “Flash”), Jones helmed the two most respected labels in the new school of Chicago house, Cajual and Relief. This Thanksgiving Eve, the Verboten resident presents a special Green Velvet vs. Cajmere set.

To say 2014 was a massive year for Patrick Topping would be an understatement, with three Beatport #1’s in the Tech-House chart with “Get Beasty,” “Forget” and “Voicemail,” and two DJ Awards for Newcomer DJ and Track Of The Season for “Forget.” Patrick Topping’s productions have an effortless swagger when it comes to working the dancefloor, knowing exactly how to work a crowd and making a name for himself with his extremely infectious basslines and dancefloor weapons. Listen to Green Velvet and Patrick Topping’s latest track “Voicemail,” which landed amongst the top 20 on Beatport’s Top 100 tech house chart, here.

November 28 Susanne Bartsch + Dreamhouse present KUNST!

Susanne Bartsch is New York City’s patron saint of transformation and inclusion. The parties she’s thrown for three decades—from Paris to Tokyo—have provided a venue for countless creative souls and “creatures” to express themselves, come together and forget the hum-drum of the everyday. Launching in 1987, her weekly parties became the place to see and be seen for a trendsetting group of New Yorkers and ushered in a new era in nightlife, one that mixed uptown and downtown, gay and straight, chic and street. Susanne has become notorious for the beautiful, strange, and outlandishly dressed people who flock to her events. The colorful crowds have followed her for 3 decades and still gather at her current weekly bashes in New York and special events around the world.
