NOTE: The information below is my personal and humble opinion that was drafted in 2009 as a concerned citizen of Nigeria; this proposal welcomes review, criticism, correction and condemnation from the public where necessary to the benefit of Nigeria.

Technology is the bedrock of industrial development of any nation, and Nigeria should not be an exception. It is time we took drastic action to industrialise Nigeria before it is too late. This can be disastrous if we fail to take the necessary action.

Find below guidelines to achieving industrial revolution in Nigeria in view of challenges facing this country.

1. Government should ameliorate tax meted to manufacturers in order to resuscitate the non-oil sector, as they are already impoverished due to poor infrastructure.

2. Government should set aside certain/agreed percentage of oil revenue in an Industrial Technology Trust Fund (ITTF) for the real sector which is one of the main users of the oil resources; thereby ensuring that the oil sector stimulate industrial growth.

3. There is the need to partner the trade department of Nigerian Embassies in technologically advanced nations so as to update Nigeria’s ‘Technology Research and Development organisation on known, unknown, modified, and latest technologies in those countries.

4. Alternatively, a mini satellite office of the ‘Technology Research Development Center’ can be set up in some of the advanced countries to be headed by a person that understands/ can speak the language of that country. For instance, whoever is going to head such an office in China must understand/ speak Chinese’s language to leverage on emerging technological developments for the benefit of Nigeria.

5. The trade department or representatives of the satellite offices oversea should be encouraged to participate in necessary trade/industrial exhibitions and various other industrial technology programmes and update Nigeria accordingly.

6. Upon approval to purchase machine (s) / technology, the Technology Research Development Center will apply for the ITTFund to purchase the machine(s) to be carefully understudied in Nigeria by Nigerian engineers for mass production into the market.

7. A mega company that will be ‘Limited by Guarantee’ in registration will be established for mass production of various sampled machines and technologies bought from overseas.

8. There is also the need to allocate the ITTFund for the establishment of the company.

9. While the fund to establish the company will be provided by the government through ITTFund, the company will be managed by the private sector.

10. The board of the company must necessarily comprise Manufacturers Association of Nigeria; Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture; Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association and The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria among other associations for effective and industry informed management. This is subject to review.

11. The Company will employ numerous unemployed Nigerians, especially the engineers.

12. Machine(s)/ technology produced by the company should be made affordable to the industries at a subsidized rate to serve as a relief to them in order to increase their competitiveness.

13. On the revenue generated from the company, certain percentage should be earmarked for continuous research and development; mass production of machines/ development of technologies; manufacturing of spare parts; and tax payment to government coffers.

14. The Technology Research and Development Center must liaise with trustees of the established company on each machine(s)/technology to be purchased, because they are the users of the machines/technologies and they know what they need within the industry. So, the machine/technology can only be bought upon approval by the trustees of the company.

15. The Company will eventually specialise on the production of machine tools; general technical equipment; automotive equipment, farm equipment and electric power equipment among many other products that will be so decided in the future. With the establishment of the company, Nigeria will one day find permanent solution to its power problem independently.

16. We must downplay politics in this respect and let the professionalism reign in order to succeed.

17, Resuscitation of the Nigerian steel sector to aid the industrial/ technological development

18. A large size of land, for example, twice/ thrice University land size should be acquired for the company as assembly plant because of future expansion.

ADVANTAGES

1. The machines will be locally produced at lower cost and will be maintenance friendly i.e easy maintain because it is manufactured in Nigeria, as it will reduce the amount of foreign exchange incurred by companies to bring engineers from abroad to repair their machines.

2. If successfully implemented, it will mark the beginning of industrial revolution in Nigeria just like we had in China and some other countries, as people who have business ideas will know where to go to commence production having satisfied other business requirements.

3, It will serve as a platform to develop Nigeria’s non-oil sector to reduce over-dependence on oil resources.

4. Upon implementation, Nigeria will compete with China and other industrialised countries very soon. And there will be a reduction in unemployment, insecurity, ignorance, poverty and consequently, leads to human development and advancement.

5. There will be increased use of steel and aluminium products within the country upon commencement of the company.

6. Smuggling of goods will naturally be reduced, as there will be more production activities due to subsidised machinery. This will reduce the prices of goods in the market but could only be fully achieved if there is constant power supply. This will have a multiplying effect on all sectors, and the development will naturally unfold solution to the nation’s power problem.

CHALLENGES

1. Misappropriation of funds

2. Disruption of the exercise with too much of politics

3. Diversion of the nation’s attention from the project by international agencies because of the envisioned positive resultant effects upon the economy.

4. Lack of Cooperation among different private sector led associations/organisations.

5. Lack of political will of the government/stakeholders.
May God guide our leaders aright.

NIGERIA SHALL BE GREAT.

PROPOSAL FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

NOTE: The information below is my personal and humble opinion that was drafted in 2010 as a concerned citizen of Nigeria; this proposal welcomes review, criticism, correction and condemnation from the public where necessary to the benefit of Nigeria.

The increasing rate of motorcycle (Okada) riders, street urchins, and teenage traders are indicators of a failing economy as currently obtained in Nigeria and it requires urgent solutions.

Nigeria has flying problems but it uses crawling solutions to address them, solutions that will have little or no effect. Meanwhile, the country needs to use flying solutions for its flying problems to enable it have a headway economically.

This development, I think, will be better addressed with the establishment of Economic Intelligence Agency (EIA) as a watchdog of Nigeria’s economy, to identify opportunities, threats, weakness and strengths of the economy with focus on intelligence, analysis, trends and strategies.

1. Nigeria needs to establish Economic Intelligence Agency that will operate like the Central Intelligence Agency of United States of America or State Security Service of Nigeria to gather information on economic, business and industrial matters, because classified information that will genuinely transform the economy of any nation can rarely be read on the pages of the newspapers.

2. There is the need for EIA because government agencies operating in business/economic related fields can’t be monitoring the activities of companies/organisations operating under their scope 24 hours a day, but EIA will be on ground to inform government/ agencies on company’s activities that are inimical to the economy from time to time.

3. The EIA will be established through the Act of the National Assembly as an economic intelligence gathering agency to operate independently, but will report to the President to enable him/her take informed economic decisions for industrial development of Nigeria, aid the drafting of right economic policies, thereby serving as the Chief Economic Adviser of the country.

4. The EIA should be granted the power to summon director(s) of business organisations for questioning when necessary. Government agencies and advocacy groups should be given directives to cooperate with EIA in information sharing in the course of discharging its duties.

5. EIA will serve as the bedrock of Nigeria’s economic development, as it will unearth companies or individuals, either foreign or local operators whose business activities are threatening the nation’s economic development.

6. It will serve as a strategic instrument to fight against poverty by revolutionising Nigeria’s economy and consequently help move Nigeria from a developing economy to a developed economy.

7. The EIA will in the long run have its searchlight on all types of businesses in different sectors in the country.

8. The EIA will have all the necessary information relating to government economic policies, taxes and incentives among others at the federal, states and local government levels to enable it carry out its duties appropriately.

9. The EIA will collaborate with all government agencies, business associations; associations of company’s distributors to enable it discharge its duties appropriately.

10. The EIA will have A-Z information on all business organisations, trade unions, dealers, as they will be a veritable source of getting information on the activities of different companies.

11. The EIA will gather information on the ownership of every business organisation from time to time.

12. The EIA, in its internal operations, will also make use of local and international newspapers, television, radio, on a daily basis to get leads on economic/business information gathering.

13. The organisation structure will be divided into different business sectors: manufacturing, oil and gas, agriculture, telecommunication sector among others with sub-divisions, as there will also be sections for national economic matters and government policies.

14. Business associations and companies should be encouraged to make copies of advocacies, complaints or factors affecting operations of business/economic environment that are made known to the public or filed to relevant agencies available to EIA for scrutiny and follow up where necessary.

15. The EIA’s contact telephone number and E-mail should be given wide publicity on print and electronic media to enable it get enough information from the public.

16. A small handbook containing the contacts and functions of EIA should be distributed to all Youth Corps Members at the NYSC camp nationwide to sensitise them of the importance of the organisation to their economic empowerment, as the corps members will be a veritable source of information by the time they get into the labour market.

17. The EIA will also gather information on raw materials, machines needed to produce and offer various products and services to assist potential investors as well as aid the development of the economy.

18. The EIA will gather information on raw materials and finished goods that can be sourced locally or imported.

19. The EIA will investigate the factors responsible for Nigeria ’s inability to produce some products and the cause of the death of industries/companies that were formerly functional in which the products are now being imported.

20. The EIA will investigate (public or private) companies/organisations or personalities engaged in product faking and counterfeiting, and smuggling.

21. The EIA will gather information on other economic activities that may be inimical to the economic development of the country.

22. The EIA will visit exhibition centers in the country to gather information on activities of companies and collect contacts as the case may be for updating of its records.

23. The EIA will also partner some Public Relations firms to get some strategic information of the activities of some companies that are their clientele.

24. The EIA will liaise with media houses to collect document and speeches delivered at event attended by there reporters on a monthly basis for scrutiny of those speeches in order to get some leads.

ADVANTAGES OF EIA

It will serve as bedrock of economic development of Nigeria.

It will unearth companies or individuals either foreign or local whose operations are threatening to the nation’s economic development.

It will serve as a strategic weapon to fight against poverty.

It will help to put a stop to faking and counterfeiting of products as dealers can divulge such information where available to EIA.

It will make companies to behave themselves because they know that an organisation is watching their secrete operations.

It will make government regulatory agencies responsible for regulating certain business activities to take their duties seriously because they know that EIA will detect their mistakes on the part of those companies where they fail to act appropriately.

CHALLENGES OF EIA

Security threat to the lives of top executives of the EIA, especially the head of the agency from the business operators and their international collaborators who have for long constituted a threat to the development of Nigeria .

Corrupt tendencies on the part of EIA staffs who might be bribed to cover up some sensitive information.

Interference by foreign countries and some multinational agencies to distort and divert the nation’s attention to their benefit.

May God guide our leaders aright.

NIGERIA SHALL BE GREAT

PROPOSAL ON HOW TO USE INTELLIGENCE GATHERING TO STEM INSECURITY, AID GOOD GOVERNANCE IN NIGERIA

BY: SULAIMAN ADENEKAN B.Sc (Hons) Bus Admin, MBA (Marketing), MNIMN, arpa

COMPANY: TRADE NEWSWIRE (www.tradenewswire.net)

POSITION: PUBLISHER/ EDITOR

NOTE: The information below is my personal and humble opinion that was drafted in 2011 as a concerned citizen of Nigeria; this proposal welcomes review, criticism, correction and condemnation from the public where necessary to the benefit of Nigeria.

The rate of insecurity in Nigeria and the world in general has continued to aggravate beyond human comprehension, as people lives in fear inspite of having government authority in place and there can never be good governance in an unsecured environment.

What could have made human society to be unsecured? Poverty, Ignorance, Injustice, intoxicants, Indiscipline, Lawlessness, Hopelessness, Frustration, Oppression, Corruption, Greed, Desperate quest for power, Desperate quest for wealth acquisition, Bad attitude to life, Wrong upbringing, Hatred, Envy, cultism, inequality, lack of fear of God among others are the answers.

Human beings will/ may not ordinarily performed acts of insecurity if he /she know that he might be reported, apprehended, face the wrath of the law or are under close watch of security agencies/ the society.

There is the need for Nigeria and other countries to set up National Complaint Agency which will strategically aid Intelligence gathering beyond combative strategy to forestall the rate of publicized/ unpublicized and known/unknown insecurity in the country. This is simply because intelligence gathering is the mother of security while combative strategy is the father of security.

Protection/ security of human lives are a symbol of civilization of a nation. Any country that attaches little or no value to human lives by allowing human beings to be killed unjustly and unquestionably without corrective actions is uncivilized regardless of her economic/industrial buoyancy, because wealth is only useful to a living soul not the dead.

Human existence on earth is naturally short, even if a man spends 150 years; it is still (ironically) short, not to talk of even living the life in poverty and ignorance? As if that is not enough, it is now crowned with existing on the surface of the earth (insecurity) in fear. It’s unfortunate.

Nigerian government and other world leaders should know that every government in power at any point in time will be meant to account and responsible for every lost soul under their dispensations and actions taking (sincerely or insincerely) to forestall future occurrence because the Number One Job of any constituted government authority is (SECURITY).

It should be noted that public governance is a serious business and should not be handled lightly or be selfishly left in the hands of mediocre all in a bid to have a firm control on the political system.

To forestall insecurity, reduce the rate of human oppression and achieve good governance, there is the need to set up National Complaints Agency as stated above along with the installations of CCTV cameras across the country to aid intelligence gathering, collates threats, treat issues accordingly and act proactively to address the needs of citizens in order to create a safe/ secured environment.

This development is expected to have a multiplying effect in all facets of human endeavours if rightly and sincerely implemented.

Government(s) Can Implement The Following Recommendations.

1. There is the need to set up National Complaint Agency across the country where citizens can lodge their complaints. It will be a civil-friendly /demilitarize agency.

2. Before setting up the Agency, I will suggest to government(s) to install Close Circuit Television cameras across the country to stem likely acts of insecurity on the society and threats to lives of complainants from those who might want to retaliate for being reported at the Agency; those who do not want to be reported at all; and those who do not want their excesses to be checkmated following the establishment of the Agency.

3. Installation of CCTV cameras on electricity poles across the nooks and cranny of the country to curtail further expenses on pole erection and because of the current state of our electrical power supply situation in the country, considering the fact that electricity poles are erected in virtually every community where there are human presence both in the rural and urban areas. (This is applicable to countries that still erect/ make use of electricity poles for power distribution, this particular method could change as the country develops in the supply and stability of electricity).

4. Installation of CCTV cameras on masts erected by telecoms companies.

5. Governments can make use of the Telecoms companies’ masts erected at their Base Stations thereby making the installed CCTV camera to continue operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week unstopped. This is so because of the company’s alternative source of power generating capability through the use of generating set at the stations in case of power outage,

6. Telecoms companies also have the option of collaborating with the Government to have their Base Stations used for the installation of CCTV cameras as a form of Corporate Social Responsibility.

7. Government can also offer a form of a Tax-Rebate by reducing tax paid by telecoms companies who accommodates the installations of CCTV cameras, this will serve as a form of royalty paid by the government to these companies for making use of their masts.

8. Installation of CCTV cameras on official and residential buildings, especially high rise buildings.

9. Citizens should be sensitized to report anybody found tampering with the installed CCTV cameras.

10. The National Complaint Agency will consist of ex and serving lawyers, journalists, human right activist, religious clerics, law enforcement officers, civil servants among other professions.

11. NCA should be located on each street across the country or on each electorally-designated neighborhood population area.

12. Sensitive complaints that may require combative effort of the Police should immediately be reported to State /Area Control Unit of NCA for appropriate action/ directive.

13. Defendant should be given the grace of honouring an invitation three times, after which the National Complaint Agency has the power to order the arrest of the defendants.

14. The National Assembly/House of Parliament should make law to establish the National Complaint Agency as civil-friendly /demilitarize agency that has the power to hear complaints and refer to security/ appropriate agencies or the media houses where necessary.

15. Beyond physical complaint, virtual complaint via the website of National Complaint Agency without necessarily sending an mail to avoid having access to e-mail address of the sender. However, anybody who chooses to send an e-mail is free to do so. Complainants can also be made by phone call to the agency for information sharing.

16. Every call made by citizens to National Complaint Agency should attract no charge on the part of the complainants; rather the charge should be bored by the Agency. This is to support people who have information to share but are not financially capable to make phone calls.

17. Telecoms companies can also perform Corporate Social Responsibility act by given out free telephone credit-airtime to the Agency to aid its function.

18. Records of every complaint lodged daily via the agency’s website or physically at all levels should be forwarded to headquarters of the Agency for proper monitoring of how Citizen’s complaints are treated.

19. Every complainant should be given Complaint Acknowledgement form which will contain the complaint serial number, date, time, Agency district where the complaint was lodged, and receiver of the complaint for verification purposes.

20. A two or one hour programme should be aired on a National Network Radio station once or twice a week to address issues faced by complainants among other issues. This should continue until the Agency’s radio and television station would be established for proper discharge of their function.

21. Radio station is chosen for airing of the programme because it is easily accessible to both the rich and the poor to some extent.

22. If the management at the appropriate time deemed it fit to feature on television station, it should be accommodated for the benefit of citizens.

23. The National Complaint Agency should be headed by a Director-General who is expected to report directly to the President.

24. Complaint report should be submitted every month to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the Director-General.

25. The Agency should not be placed under any ministry but it should operate as an independent body that will report straight to the President of the country for it to perform its duty appropriately or else the Agency will be rubbished and the purpose of setting it up will be defeated.

26. Every citizen complaints must be treated to a logical conclusion not abandoned or half treated so as to reduce the rate of disgruntled/frustrated citizens, by so doing, it will help to curb rebellious/violent activities.

27. Selfless men and women of integrity, sincere mind, trust, commitment and impeccable character should make up the National Complaint Agency in order to achieve a peaceful environment and help clean Nigeria and other countries of the mess that is presently ravaging them.

28. Seminars should be held once in a week for the Agency’s staff at all Centers on the importance of having a peaceful environment and how to develop and advance the course of humanity in the society to enable them carry out their duties justly and equitably. This is essential because the Agency will be strategic and forms the bedrock of achieving a peaceful/ civilized society.

29. Government should have budgetary allocation for the Agency; also donations from international organization should be welcomed to finance the activities of the Agency.

30. The Agency should have Feedback department at all levels whereby feedbacks are given on the state of every lodged complaint on a weekly basis and it should be submitted to the headquarters for review.

31. Staff of the Agency should be taught on the need to keep the Agency’ secrete as part of their responsibility, considering the sensitivity of the Agency’s operations.

Advantages of National Complaint Agency

1, It will engender good governance

2, It will stem high rate of insecurity and foster peaceful co-existence of humanity

3, It will serve as a proactive instrument to detect and thwart any threats to the society

4, It will be a veritable source of intelligence gathering to the government

5, It will facilitate human development and advancement

6, It will facilitate societal development

7, It will give hope to citizens and boost their confidence

8, It will help to protect /secure human lives

9, It will aid socio-economic development

10, It will make government presence to be felt in all the nooks and cranny of the country.

Challenges of National Complaint Agency

1, Lives of complainants might be threatened

2, Staff of the Agency are likely to betray the trust of the agency by divulging secrete information

3, Staff of the Agency might sabotage the efforts of complainants by being corruptly-biased to either the plaintiff or defendant.

4, Lives of the Agency’s staff could be at risk for doing their jobs rightly

5, Saboteurs could starve the Agency of fund since it’s not a revenue generating Agency in order to frustrate its operation.

6, The agency’s activities might be unfruitful if people who have no integrity are elected/ appointed to positions of authority in the country, as they will compromise citizen’s rights to keep themselves in the position.

NOTE: The information above can as well be adopted by other African countries, underdeveloped, developing and developed economies.

May God Guide Our Leaders Aright

PROPOSAL ON HOW TO STOP RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM FOR PEACE TO REIGN IN NIGERIA

BY: SULAIMAN ADENEKAN B.Sc (Hons) Bus Admin, MBA (Marketing), MNIMN, arpa

COMPANY: TRADE NEWSWIRE (www.tradenewswire.net)

POSITION: PUBLISHER/ EDITOR

E-MAIL: sulaimanadenekan@yahoo.com

PHONE: 08168927415, 08099400135, 08024437214

NOTE: The information below is my personal and humble opinion that was drafted in 2012 as a concerned citizen of Nigeria; this proposal welcomes review, criticism, correction and condemnation from the public where necessary to the benefit of Nigeria.

Considering the (high rate of insecurity) in Nigeria which was borne out of (religious/ political extremism) among other factors like poverty, injustice and ignorance to mention a few, it is high time government makes (religion) its business for peace of this country, as against previous saying that government has no business in religion.

We need to address the course (extreme ideology) and not just the symptom (insecurity) of our problem for peace to reign. I foresee a more dangerous situation in future if drastic measure is not taken to curb the menace on time because people will continue to embrace such extreme ideology and believe they are doing what is right.

War of mentality is very hard to fight. We need to be strategic in that regard, because (mental war) is tougher than (physical war). Extremists are always passionate of their actions believing that (If they are not correct, nobody is correct).

However, inspite of the excesses of these religious extremists, the fact remains that (Islam and Christianity) are known for (PEACE) and should totally be excluded from any form of (violence) fomented by individuals, groups or institutions that might claim to be fighting for either of the religion.

The following strategies should be adopted by the government to engender peace in the country as soon as possible.

(1) Government should fund the establishment of Islamic and Christian radio and television stations across the country, i.e one station for each religion to disseminate words of God in an appropriate manner that will not promote hatred among humanity to the extent of making the state unsecured.

(2) The proposed religious media outfits should have extensive coverage across the country just like the National Television Authority (NTA) and Radio Nigeria but not owned and controlled by the government.

(3) Government should not make a mistake to deregulate the religious media sector by issuing licenses to private individuals, associations or group to own such a media outfits, as any attempt to do so will lead to proliferation of information and promotion of different ideology which would be disastrous to the peace of the country.

(4) The media outfits should be managed by religious professionals in each religion under the board and advisory control of (Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs) and (Christian Association of Nigeria) along with outstanding religious scholars in both religions respectively.

(5) No religion should abuse/ criticize each other’s religion in the broadcast operations of the proposed media outfits to avoid religious unrest.

(6) The media houses should be used to propagate beauty of the two religions respectively and for peaceful co-existence of Nigerians regardless of their religion, tribes, colour, race or social class.

(7) No media station should air or propagate political activities/ campaigns.

(8) Government should not intervene in the management of the media outfits.

(9) The media outfits will help put a stop to an era whereby wrong/extreme religious information is disseminated in the private aimed at taken advantage of the people’s social problems and tender-heartedness to God. This development will make religious followers to crosscheck any information received privately from their respective religious leaders through these religious media.

ADVANTAGES OF ESTABLISHING RELIGIOUS MEDIA OUTFITS

(1) Adequate monitoring and control of religious message disseminated to the public

(2) Ability to liberate Nigerians from being brainwashed to extremists’ ideology, as people would have access to listen to and watch religious programs 24 hours a day/ seven days a week because absence of such media outfits would not make people to have alternative source of religious information other than sermon privately received from scholars in various religious homes and which could be disastrous.

(3) It will reduce religious bigotry

(4) It will reduce insecurity associated with religious extremism

(5) It will reduce ignorance / religious and mental slavery

(6) It will make Nigerians to have the fear of God which will lead to truthfulness, and truthfulness leads to justice, justice leads to love, love leads to peace while peace leads to development/ advancement.

(Fear of God > Truthfulness > Justice > Love > Peace > Development/ Advancement)

(7) It will aid good governance engender peace in the country.

(8) It will reduce intra and inter religious conflicts to the barest minimum

(9) It will reduce poverty

(10) It will promote morality and preserve our social values.

CHALLENGES OF ESTABLISHING RELIGIOUS MEDIA OUTFITS

(1) Infiltration of the board of directors of the media outfits by religious bigotry with the aim of propagating extreme ideology that is capable of causing disunity within each religion, between both religions and the country as a whole

(2) Mismanagement of the media outfits

(3) Government would want to meddle into the affairs of the media outfits for cheap political gains

(4) Misuse of media outfits by different religions for wrong purposes rather than for reasons for which it is established.

(5) Hijacking of the media outfits by desperate individuals, organizations or groups to achieve their personal objectives as against the overall objective of the media outfits.

(6) Failure to fund establishment of religious media stations by the government because of the fear of being told the truth by religious scholars to discontinue their excesses in governance which they will consider as an affront.

(7) Condemnation by foreign countries, organization and their local agents, as it would be considered a threat to various selfish, destructive and anti-human agendas they intend to achieve in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

(8) Greedy rivalry on the part of the two religions by not wanting the message of each other’s religion to be heard, as they will prefer the media outfits are not established at all inspite of acknowledging the inherent benefits, but such self-centeredness, myopic, selfish mentality could spell doom for the country in the long run. However, endurance, tolerance and respect for each other’s religion are needed in this situation.

Note:

-Religious faithful should know that they can’t claim to (love) their respective religion more than God

- Religious faithful should not (coerce) people to practice their religion directly, indirectly or through the use of guile or deceit, rather, it should be embraced (willingly) by individuals.

NIGERIANS, PLEASE LET’S STOP FIGHTING ONE ANOTHER,WE ARE ONE, (1) I REPEAT

May God Guide Our Leaders Right

NIGERIA SHALL BE GREAT AND PEACEFUL

PROPOSAL ON HOW TO TACKLE TERRORISM IN NIGERIA

BY: SULAIMAN ADENEKAN B.Sc (Hons) Bus Admin, MBA (Marketing), MNIMN, arpa

COMPANY: TRADE NEWSWIRE (www.tradenewswire.net)

POSITION: PUBLISHER/ EDITOR

NOTE: The information below is my personal and humble opinion that was drafted in 2012 as a concerned citizen of Nigeria; this proposal welcomes review, criticism, correction and condemnation from the public where necessary to the benefit of Nigeria.

Concerning the security problem in Nigeria, I will advise the government to look at these proposed corrective measures, as I don’t pray the insecurity situation get to a stage whereby terrorists would start hijacking/ bombing airplanes.

(1) Nigeria security agencies should work closely with the government; security-related Non Governmental Organizations; and Regulatory Council for Religious Affairs of the neighboring countries that share borders with Nigeria, as they will play a significant role in sharing information on the activities/ operations of those migrating from their countries into Nigeria to wreck havoc. Nigeria religious organizations also have a lot of roles to play to that effect.

(2) Government should work closely with Nigerian embassies located in countries that have borders with Nigeria on information sharing as regard the status of any suspected existing/ potential migrants from their respective operating countries.

(3) Nigerian government should meet with ambassadors of embassies of countries that border Nigeria for information sharing.

(4) Since nobody can be trusted in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the country and for the purpose of tackling this menace, the Presidency should create an e-mail and phone lines where Nigerians can directly send mails/ make phone calls to give information they felt is threatening to the national security for prompt response once they have access to any. The e-mail/ phone lines should be widely publicized.

(5) Security agencies should carry out undercover operation by liaising with beggars / heads of beggars in various districts across the country especially in the hotspot region, I am sure they will have information that can help aid the nation’s security in this regard. It is not as if I have not put the level of mentality of beggars into consideration, I have, and moreover, operation of the security agencies with them should only be limited to extracting information from them not to give feedback. Security agents should be (very careful) when dealing with them.

(6) A meeting involving (ONLY) the President, Vice president, past presidents, past vice presidents, National Security Advisers, past National Security Advisers, Security Chiefs, Governors, past governors of the hot spot states, and Royal father in the hot spot region should first be held, I believe this meeting will be strategic to curbing the security problem in the country, and should later be extended to other regions.

(7) The meeting should later be extended to include other Royal fathers in the country, heads of religion and heads of various political parties so as to rob minds on the way forward, as some essential information would be gotten from the meeting.

(8) Henceforth, government should ensure that it is only tested men of integrity are crowned as kings, head of towns and Chiefs as it was the practice in the olden days, by not just crowning people because of their political/ financial clouts. This is very (important) because this is the foundation of the Nigerian society and it is strategic to the nation’s security.

(9) Just as I’ve stated above, same goes to the appointment of religious leaders to head religious houses either mosques or churches.

(10) It is unfortunate that our political process (appointment/election of political office holders) is still based on (he who pays the piper calls the tune). We have to change and follow same standard as stated above.

(11) Monitoring of religious teachings delivered by religious leaders to avoid brainwashing of followers to the detriment of national security.

(12) Close monitoring of the Nigerian borders

(13) Government must address the problem of poverty through massive employment generation

(14) Eradication of ignorance through education and dissemination of value-oriented information through mass media.

(15) Sincere fight against corruption

(16) Above all, enthronement of justice, fair play, playing of politics without bitterness(patriotism) and equity in the system

May God Guide Our Leaders Right

NIGERIA SHALL BE GREAT AND PEACEFUL
