Like many other women on this list, Kamina moved south to follow her gaming dream.
Shortly after relocating to Melbourne, Vincent began attending IGDA Melbourne meetings, and it was there she would hear about volunteering opportunities at the upcoming 2010 Freeplay Festival.
After being accepted as a volunteer and meeting so many wonderful and supportive developers, Vincent wanted to volunteer as much as she could. In the years since, she has volunteered at; Freeplay 2011 – 2013, Transmedia Victoria 2011, Global Game Jam 2011 – 2013, GDC 2012 and helped support IGDA Melbourne from 2011 – 2013.
Still an active member of IGDA Melbourne, Vincent is committed to supporting, mentoring and engaging with young developers, sharing her experiences and knowledge. As a part of this, she was a volunteer coordinator and organiser for GCAP 2013 and 2014 – a role she will continue with at this year’s event.
Vincent also volunteered for Tin Man Games at PAX East and PAX Aus in 2013, the role would lead to her joining the team as a contract QA Tester as well as transcribing several books for the firm. In December 2013 she would join Tin Man full time as a QA/Editor, moving into The Arcade with them.
Keen to explore and learn new skills, Kamina included the role of Community Manager at Tin Man Games to her responsibilities for the company, and at the start of 2015 was made producer on an upcoming TMG game.
The wearer of at least four hats in her time with Tin Man, Kamina has worked on thirteen Apple/Android titles, seven Steam ports and formatted one physical book, and that’s not including the titles she has supported across updates.
Outside of her work with Tin Man and her event volunteering, Kamina spoke at the Get Into Games Expo 2014 – an event run for high school students looking to enter the games industry, attracting around 250 students each year. She is also due to speak at the 2015 Ballarat GiG as well as organising a corresponding WiG lunch. Kamina has also begun mentoring at AIE Incubator in Melbourne this year.
In perhaps her boldest project to date, Kamina rallied the game development sector to donate to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation by shaving her head at the 2013 IGDAM Christmas Party; an initiative that was perhaps too enthusiastically received by the industry!
If all of the above wasn’t enough, Kamina is also studying C# programming through classes held within The Arcade.
