"Catholic" Bishops Give $70,000 to Pro-Abortion, Pro-Homosexual Group

Catholic Campaign for Human Development Continues to Fund Anti-Catholic Groups
The annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development is this weekend, and once again, the Lepanto Institute is encouraging Catholics to refrain from donating.  Last year, we wrote about the Marxist core of the CCHD.  For those who have not yet seen the EWTN docudrama, A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, you need to put away 90 minutes of your time this week and watch it.  In order to understand the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and it’s problems, you have to watch this docudrama!

Our only criticism of this video is that it didn’t go far enough into explaining the institutional rot that the CCHD was founded upon.
As the collection is coming up, people have been asking if CCHD has cleaned up its act, or if it has fixed its problems, as it has claimed.  Without any equivocation or hesitation, we can say with certainty, “no it has not!”  Since we’ve been very focused on our latest investigation into Catholic Relief Services, we haven’t had time to devote for a full-blown investigation into CCHD’s grantees for this past year.  That said, we did take the time to look through the grants list to see if CCHD is still funding organizations that we have exposed in the past, and found that at least 23 previously profiled organizations continue to receive CCHD funding.  In the interest of time, we will provide you with one new profile to illustrate just how incompetent and possibly complicit CCHD is with the promotion of abortion and homosexuality through the groups it continues to finance.
According to the CCHD’s 2015-2016 list of grantees, The National CCHD gave $70,000 to an organization called Somos un Pueblo Unido.

Back in 2012, Michael Hichborn personally met with Ralph McCloud and John Carr to discuss the problematic organizations he had discovered that CCHD was funding, and Somos un Pueblo Unido was one of them.  Click here to view the older profile on Somos, which (among other things) exposes it for:

actively promoting abortion and homosexuality through its own website and weekly radio program.

Advertising for Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) in its December, 2008 newsletter

It’s August 31, 2011 radio show featuring a rep from Young Women United, a strongly pro-abortion organization. In the show, Somos praised the work of Young Women United, including it’s work on youth access to contraception and abortion.

In short, given its egregious violations of CCHD grant guidelines, there is no reason this organization should have continued to receive funding.  And yet, this year it was awarded $70,000
Since the previous profile on Somos un Pueblo Unido is four years old, we took another look, and sure enough, it continues to violate CCHD guidelines.  Somos un Pueblo is a partner of the homosexual advocacy organization, Equality New Mexico.

In 2014, Somos un Pueblo Unido played a key role in helping Equality New Mexico create the LGBTQ Immigrant Advocacy Initiative.  Next to an image with the title”La Virgen Lesbiana,” clearly mocking the Blessed Virgin Mary, the stated goals of the PGBTQ Immigrant Advocacy Initiative are:

increase statewide capacity for intersectional organizing,

build and strengthen public education and outreach efforts that address the intersections of being both LGBTQ and undocumented, and

develop a strong advocacy presence from within the LGBTQ rights movement to work in solidarity with the immigrant rights community.

In June of 2016, Somos un Pueblo’s executive director, Marcala Diaz interviewed the field director for Equality New Mexico, praiding their work, encouraging people to participate in their advocacy, and stating very clearly that Somos un Pueblo Unido had worked with them for several years in promoting homosexuality.
On June 25, Somos un Pueblo Unido participated in the Santa Fe Gay Pride Parade.

In this picture, Somos un Pueblo refers to Equality New Mexico and the New Mexico Gay Straight Alliance Network as “partners,” as it announces that it just finished marching in the gay pride parade.  Note the Equality New Mexico banner to the right.  All of the yellow shirts are Somos un Pueblo Unido organization t-shirts.

Equality New Mexico posted its own set of pictures, again indicating that it marched with Somos un Pueblo Unido in the Pride Parade.

And since Somos un Pueblo Unido made it very clear that it is a partner with Equality New Mexico, and considering its advocacy for abortion and contraception in the past (see the previous profile linked above), it should come as no surprise that Equality New Mexico equates LGBT activism with pro-abortion activism.  On June 27, 2016 … just two days after it marched with Somos un Pueblo Unido, and they sang each other’s praises, Equality New Mexico posted this:

Conclusion
The CCHD’s grant guidelines are very clear about what activities grantees may participate in.  Specifically, the guidelines say:

Applicant organizations must not participate in or promote activities that contradict the moral and social teachings of the Catholic Church and must in no way work against the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ priorities to defend human life and dignity, strengthen family life and the institution of marriage, and foster diversity. For example, applicant organizations that support or promote same-sex marriage, discrimination, capital punishment, abortion, euthanasia, or punitive measures towards immigrants are not eligible for CCHD funding. (emphasis added)
Unfortunately, Somos un Pueblo Unido has been in routine violation of this guideline since at least 2011.  Not only has it been in violation, but the executive director of the CCHD has known about Somos un Pueblo’s violation because Michael Hichborn personally handed him the evidence.  CCHD clearly has no regard for the guidelines, as can be clearly seen by the most current evidence that CCHD could have easily found had it actually looked.  As we have said before, either CCHD is incompetent, and therefore unworthy of Catholic funds, or it is complicit, and certainly unworthy of Catholic funds.  Either way, we encourage you to slip the Alinsky Buck below into the CCHD envelope for this Sunday’s collection.
