Goodyear launches four new tires at dealer conference
Goodyear announced it had added new tires to its popular Eagle, Kelly and Wrangler lines at its annual dealer conference in Washington, DC, last week. The company also introduced dealers to the Endurance WHA — claiming it is its longest-wearing waste haul tire yet.
Here’s a closer look at all four tires.
The new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3
Goodyear launched its Eagle range more than 30 years ago. Last week the company built on that legacy, releasing the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 — a premium, ultra-high-performance summer tire “that helps deliver commanding traction and precise handling in both wet and dry conditions.”
Goodyear general manager of brand marketing, Jay Robinson, said the tire offered “powerful, ultra-high-performance handling for exceptional driving confidence” and, impressively, was the original equipment (OE) fitment on the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, the Chevrolet Corvette and the Tesla Model X.
The tire features an asymmetric tread pattern for increased traction in turns and on wet surfaces, a grip-boosting tread compound for increased road adhesion and “advanced construction tuned for ultra-high-performance suspension systems.”
It also has a solid center rib to help provide quick response.
Goodyear will initially offer the tire in six popular sizes during the second quarter of 2016. The company will continue to expand the size range throughout 2016 to offer more than 20 sizes, from 205/40R17 through 285/35R22.

High-performance tire added to Kelly brand
Goodyear has rounded out its Kelly brand power line with the high-performance Kelly Edge HP — a tire “for consumers who want excellent performance and value.”
The Kelly Edge A/S and AT were introduced at last year’s dealer conference, and Robinson said with the new Kelly Edge HP the range now covers 85 percent of target segments.
The Kelly Edge HP features an asymmetric tread pattern and a proven tread compound for enhanced all-season traction in wet, dry and snowy conditions. It has a wide center rib to help provide confident handling on a variety of road surfaces, solid shoulder blocks to help stabilize its footprint and blades with biting edges for enhanced handling, especially while turning. The enhanced tread block sequence helps reduce road noise.
“The Kelly Edge A/S and the Kelly Edge AT are offered in a broad range of sizes to cover a large majority of the touring, passenger, CUV, SUV and all-terrain segments,” Robinson said.
“The new Kelly Edge HP will do the same in the high-performance arena, with availability in 20 popular sizes, ranging from 195/55R15 to 245/45R18.”
The Kelly Edge HP is offered with a 45,000-mile limited tread life warranty.

Goodyear adds TrailRunner AT to Wrangler family
The Wrangler tire family has also grown, with the introduction of the Wrangler TrailRunner AT.
Robinson said the tire offers a hard-working combination of on- and off-road performance.
“Built with reliability and strength in mind and positioned in the mid-tier, the Wrangler TrailRunner AT offers the versatile all-season traction and long tread life that drivers need to get the job done,” he said.
The tire features large interlocking tread blocks to help deliver strong on- and off-road durability, saw-tooth block edges and multi-angle sipes for enhanced all-season traction on and off road, and a rugged stepped shoulder for added traction in deep mud and snow.
Designed to fit many of the light trucks and SUVs on the road today, the Wrangler TrailRunner AT will be available in 41 sizes, ranging from 225/75R16 to 275/60R20. It is offered with a 55,000-mile limited tread life warranty.

Endurance WHA is Goodyear’s longest-wearing waste haul tire
Goodyear claims the new Endurance WHA is its longest-wearing waste haul tire (and matching retread) ever — a claim the company believes will make it the “go-to” tire for waste haul fleets.
Goodyear general manager of product marketing, Brian Buckham, said the goal had been to provide the “total solution for waste haul fleets to help reduce their operating costs.”
The Endurance WHA is one of the first tires in Goodyear’s new Endurance family.
“It will offer more miles to removal than any previous Goodyear waste haul tire, plus other cost-reducing benefits that waste haul fleets have come to expect from Goodyear,” Buckham said.
The combination of a new, scrub-resistant compound and a deep, 24/32-inch tread depth will help the Goodyear Endurance WHA deliver more miles to removal.
Optional with the tire is Goodyear’s DuraSeal Technology, which is built into the tire during the manufacturing process and instantly seals nail-hole punctures of up to a quarter-inch in the repairable area of a truck tire’s tread.
“Goodyear is the only tire company that offers a built-in sealant, which we believe is of considerable benefit to waste haul trucks that roll across debris-strewn surfaces,” Buckham said.

The tire is available now in size 315/80R22.5, load range L.
The Endurance WHA also features sidewall protector shingles to help resist sidewall scuffing in high-scrub applications and help enhance casing life. It has a steel belt and casing package for enhanced endurance and retread-ability, a shoulder designed to direct pressure away from the tire’s outer tread (which helps promote uniform tread wear) and four wide circumferential grooves for all-season traction on wet, snow-covered and dry roads in stop/start waste haul truck applications. The Endurance WHA also has a wide footprint to enhance cornering and handling on city streets.
Goodyear is also offering a matching retread to cater to the waste haul industry’s heavy preference for retreading.
“Whether as a new tire or a retread, we truly believe that the Endurance WHA will provide superior performance for waste haul fleets,” Buckham said.
“The new Endurance WHA and its matching retread are another important component of the Goodyear Total Solution, which has been designed to help reduce fleet operating costs.”
