Principal Officers (2 posts) Planning Services, East Northamptonshire Council

We are looking for two Principal Officers to help drive forward the council’s top priority planning projects – a new district-wide Local Plan and a new 2,500 dwelling mixed use Sustainable Urban Extension at Rushden East.

East Northamptonshire is an attractive area which forms part of the North Northamptonshire growth area in the East Midlands.  It is a mainly rural district with six market towns and many beautiful villages, set within the landscape of the River Nene Valley. You will be based in the Planning Services team at the council’s offices at Thrapston.  Both posts are excellent opportunities for developing your career in a friendly, supportive and highly professional work environment.

The Local Plan post is a permanent position.  The post-holder will be responsible for developing the Local Plan from inception to adoption.  It will be a Part 2 Local Plan, following on from the soon to be adopted North Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy.  There will also be a range of other interesting planning policy matters to get involved with, including Neighbourhood Planning, and work on a new garden village.

The Rushden East Sustainable Urban Extension post is initially for an 18 month period.  The post-holder will be a team-worker with very good project management skills who can work positively and confidently with a wide range of stakeholders to address a varied range of challenges.  The initial priority is to lead on the development of a deliverable master-plan for the site for approval by the council.  You will be able to immerse yourself in this project – getting involved in everything from master-planning, community involvement, working with elected Members, development management issues, and developer contributions.
