The middle River Severn has produced a whopping 6lb 7oz chub to specialist angler Lawrence Breakspear, who targeted a swim where he knew there was a sunken willow tree with a cheese and prawn paste with mashed bread feeder. The personal best fish came after he waited two hours for his first bite. The river has also thrown up a fine pike weighing 22lb 7oz to Telford angler James Dorricott, who fished a sardine deadbait on a running rig for the personal best.

Woodside Fishery is gaining a reputation amongst perch anglers and that’s been rubber stamped with the capture of a 3lb 6oz specimen. Tenbury angler Nick Goode was lure fishing on Island Pool and fooled the fish on his third cast of the day. Venue boss Rob Hughes said: “There are countless perch to 4lb in the lakes.”

Coors Angling Club is running their popular annual Christmas Match on the Trent and Mersey Canal from Armitage to Rugeley.
