If you haven’t noticed yet, I love podcasts. I listen to podcasts probably 40 hours a week or more. From the second I get into the office until I get home from the gym or running, I’m listening to podcasts. My podcasts tastes range from outdoors/adventure themed shows, to comic book podcasts, to NBA to tech related but I’ve got he occasional pro wrestling or NPR style show on my playlists too.

I’ve already talked about my favorite comic book podcasts here, so here are my favorite outdoors themed podcasts:

Enormocast - This climbing themed, bi-weekly show hosted by Chris Kalous brings together interesting pros, dirtbags and climbing enthusiastis to talk about rock climbing. There’s nothing fancy about this show, but every episode is interesting and fun. Chirs keeps the sponsors to a minimum (one of which I reviewed here) which is nice, but I really don’t mind a lot of sponsors, as long as they are relevant. Sponsors = growth = more shows.

In Ice Axe We Trust - this show is a bit new to me but so far their recaps of Mt. Hood and Rainier have been awesome. They’ve got some good insights into conquering these peaks as well as a mix of fun guests. Give this one a shot if you’ve got the alpine bug.

Rich Roll - This show is hosted by who else? Rich Roll, a recovering alcoholic, author and ultraman runner. Rich’s story is interesting and can be inspirational, but this podcast really shines when he has interesting guests on. He’s had plant-based chefs, athletes, entrepreneurs and more on the show. The show has even helped me develop a love for running, something I never saw any pleasure in.

Dirtbag Diaries - The quintessential cubicle-hating, I wish I was living in my truck and climbing on a Tuesday morning rather than being in this meeting podcast. Let me put it this way, I usually save the Diaries for Friday afternoon so I can listen to it as close to my weekend as possible. The Dirtbag Diaries doesn’t seem so much a podcast, as much as a network, something resembling the Nerdist (which I listen too as we’ll).

Fitz Chahall, the mastermind behind the Diaries, has put to gather a series of shows ranging from short stories to more in-depth editorial style shows that shine a light on the people behind the adventures. Fitz often mentions that the show is recorded in his closet, but trust me, the quality of the production is top-notch.

Here are some other outdoors style podcast I’ve come across but haven’t had a chance to list to:
