Even though #Toronto pooches want to eat snow they also want to play in the warmth of Harbourfront's PawsWay facility. There are a variety of events going on that help your dog or puppy learn new skills and enjoy the company of other dogs. Check out their Scooby Doo deal at the bottom of this post.

Agility Skills

Thursday, January 31st (6:30pm – 7:30pm) / Thursday, March 7th

Learn the fundamentals of Agility! Each week will focus on fun new skills and techniques. Topics include new verbal cues such as 'go' or 'turn', plus new obstacle skills such as independent weave poles. Cost: $80 plus HST for four weeks.

Off Leash Safety Course

Thursday, January 31st (6pm – 7pm) / Wednesday, February 20th (6pm – 7pm)

STAY SAFE! PLAY SAFE! Learn everything you need to know to keep your dog safe in an Off Leash environment - whether at PawsWay or outside. Discover invaluable tips on canine body language and how to ensure a safe, responsible and fun environment for you and your dog. This course is mandatory for visitors attending the PawsWay Off Leash and costs only $10 per family.

Agility Games

Saturday, February 2nd (1pm – 4pm) / February 16th (1pm – 4pm) / February 23rd (1pm – 4pm)

Come try our FREE basic agility course. All ages and all breeds welcome! Our friendly staff is here to help your dog brave the tunnel and master the jumps using positive reinforcement.

Puppy Kindergarten

Saturday, February 9th (11:30am – 12:30pm)

New Puppy? Bring out the best in your dog in this exciting and informative four week series of classes! Topics include come when called, sit, stand and down on command, name recognition, house training, leash pulling and much more! Cost: $60 plus HST for four one hour sessions.

Family Day

Monday, February 18th (11am – 5pm)

Visit PawsWay on Family Day for some FREE, furry family fun! Activities include pet themed face-painting, arts, crafts and lots of free games and prizes courtesy of Purina Dog Chow! And don't miss interactive demos and Q&A's with dog trainer, Jill Priest and her animal friends.

Among the highlights are the WoofJocks. The WoofJocks are a high-energy dog/handler performance team specializing in interactive games and demonstrations of canine agility and obedience. After each show, they do a 'pat & chat' where children come out onto the floor and meet the dogs and have photos taken. Plus Pockets and Bilboa the Clowns will perform two 20-minute magic shows, and make balloon animals.

Ask the Vet

Wednesday, February 20th (5:30pm – 7:30pm)

Everyone has questions when it comes to the well being of our pets so why not ask those questions for free? Back by popular demand, Dr. Krista Nelson from Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital will be on site to offer professional advice and guidance. FREE!

Meet the Groomer

Wednesday, February 20th (5:30pm – 7:30pm)

Nervous of knots? Terrified of tangles? Learn some grooming tricks and tips to keep your pet looking their best between visits to the groomer. Mary Fraser - the PawsWay grooming expert with over eight years of experience - will provide advice and demonstrate basic grooming techniques. Please note this is not a full grooming session or designed to replace a visit to a professional grooming salon. Please bring in your current grooming tools to know how to maximize their effectiveness and discuss other grooming tool options. FREE!

Pet Care 101

Sunday, February 24th (10am – 6pm)

Ever wondered if there was somewhere that offered training to work in the Pet Care Industry? Well, here it is! Learn the basics and hands-on training for an exciting career as a Dog Daycare Attendant, Dog Walker, Pet Sitter, Kennel Attendant, Veterinarian Assistant, Dog Trainer Assistant, Animal Control Officer, Pet Rescue Worker. Dachshund UN

Shock, and delight! A meeting of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights is staged with the help of specially recruited dachshunds in this wild performance installation. Joyful and chaotic, spectacular and fascinating, Dachshund UN questions our capacity to imagine and achieve a universal system of justice. PawsWay Pet Loss Support Group

Saturday, March 2nd (11am – 1pm)

If you have experienced the loss of your animal or are anticipating the loss of your animal, know that you are not alone in the grief that you are feeling. The purpose of this group is to create a safe and supportive environment where everyone`s grief matters. Participants will have an opportunity to express their loss and share memories of their companions.

The group is co-facilitated by Jennifer Chiasson and Angie Arora. Jennifer is a Pet Loss and Bereavement Counselor and has worked in veterinary medicine as an Animal Health Technician for over seventeen years. Currently, she works with Gateway Pet Memorial Services as a Pet Funeral Director. Angie is a registered social worker who has worked as a grief counselor, group facilitator and educator in the area of pet loss. She serves as an expert on PawsWay.ca responding to people's questions and experiences about pet loss.

Camp PawsWay

Monday, March 11th – Friday, March 15th (9am – 4pm)

Do your children love dogs and cats? This exciting new, hands-on experience is for all young animal lovers, between the ages of 7 to 9. Campers learn about cats and dogs, their origins, health, training, basic tricks and more. Join us for a fun-filled week of pet themed activities, games, arts and exploration! $275/child. K-9 Manners Level 1

Thursday March 13th, (6:30pm – 7:30pm)

Course designed to help pet owners teach their dogs how to be a pleasant and responsive family and household companion. It will assist pet owners in successfully teaching their dog basic skills such as sit, down, stay, walk politely on leash, come when called, and more. Problem behaviours will be addressed with clear and easy to implement solutions. All skills will be taught using positive reinforcement training. Cost: $199 plus HST for 6 weeks.
