Pretty and picture-perfect, Forest Hill is one of Toronto’s most prestigious districts with mansions in Lower Forest Hill that are comparable only by those found in Rosedale. This gorgeous neighbourhood has diverse topography ranging from gently sloping hills, winding roads to numerous little parks that add charm and allure. Forest Hill has the best of schools, a unique history and a lot to offer in the ways of pleasing residents of the area.

Two of the best private schools in Canada are located in the Forest Hill neighbourhood. They are Upper Canada College for boys and Bishop Strachan School for girls. Along with the best schools; there is a Forest Hill Village shopping district on Spadina and Lonsdale. The stores are surrounded by a private enclave, creating the perfect cozy ambience for the residents to enjoy the shops, adding to the small town feel in a big city.

A little history about Forest Hill; in 1923 – the village was incorporated. Built in 1860, the  area was named after John Wickson who happened to be a summer resident at the junction of Eglinton Avenue and Old Forest Hill Road. The hill is still there but the forest is long since gone with the new development. Prior to its incorporation, Forest Hill had been known as Spadina Heights, Spadina being a derivative of the First Nations word ‘Ishapadenah’, which means a hill or sudden rise in land. The boundaries of the present day neighbourhood are put together from the old Spadina Heights School District. In 1967, Forest Hill Village joined Swansea Village as one of the last two independent villages to be annexed by the city of Toronto.

Forest Hill – The Upper Village

Forest Hill is a prime investment area, especially with the newly released ‘The Code Condos in Forest Hill’ project by Lifetime. The area has a large variety of stores to suit every taste and budget; with fine restaurants and grocery stores; it presents perfect harmony for the residents of Forest Hill. Young couples looking to escape the louder neighbourhoods to raise their children or start their family will be happy about the fact that they are close to everything but not directly thrust into the centre of it all.

Local residents can join the Belt Line fitness and nature trail that follows the route of the former Belt Line Railway, Toronto’s first commuter train. The track is fourteen and one-half kilometres and it passes through Forest Hill on its way down to Rosedale.
