What they wear today becomes a global trend tomorrow. A lot of people are involved in making these female icons look good and set trends for the world. However, it is the ladies who set the trends on the red carpets. They carry themselves with great style and poise wherever they go and are also constantly in the news. Let us now look at the top 10 modern female fashion icons.

 

10. Jessica Alba:

Her style is always simple and sophisticated, but that doesn’t mean it’s boring. We love the shimmering gold asymmetrical Michael Kors dress that she wore to the Met Gala this year, and not to forget the gold coloured Versace gown that she wore to the Academy Awards in 2006. She has always kept it simple and we love that about her.

9. Jennifer Lopez:

JLo has always been a modern female fashion icon. From her green Versace gown that she wore to the Grammy’s in 2000 to the dress by the same designer that she wore to the Glamour Awards in 2011, Jennifer never fails to entertain us with her daring fashion sense. Owner of a clothing line and mother of twins – Max and Emme – this hot Latina is an inspiration to all the fun, fearless and fashion conscious women across the world.

8. Reese Witherspoon:

This Oscar award winner is famous for her roles in box office hits such as ‘Walk The Line’, ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde’ and also for her marriage to ‘Cruel Intentions’ co-star Ryan Phillippe. But there is something else Reese Witherspoon is also well known for, her fashion. The canary yellow Nina Ricci cocktail dress she wore to the Golden Globe Awards in 2007 following her break up was one of the most memorable dresses on the red carpet to date, as well as the vintage Christian Dior dress she wore to the Academy’s in 2005, the same year she won Best Actress for her performance in ‘Walk The Line’.

7. Lea Michele:

This talented actress/singer is best known for her role in the Fox Television series ‘Glee’. Her acting career took off at the age of nine in the Broadway productions of Les Miserables and Ragtime. But it is ‘Glee’ that made her a household name. Although a newcomer in a prime time TV show, she is a pro when it comes to fashion. There’s always a lot of interest in what Lea Michele wears when she is walking the red carpet, and she doesn’t cease to surprise carpet critics. From the stunning sparkly navy blue gown (named the Eileen) by Diane von Furstenberg that she wore recently to the Met Gala, to the bright red custom-made Escada gown she wore to the same event in 2012 and 2011 respectively, we’ll be watching out for Lea wherever she goes.

This Aussie star is the envy of almost every girl around the world. From the unforgettable Balenciaga fire-engine red gown with an oversized bow that she wore to the Oscars in 2007 to the studded bodycon gown by Versace that she wore to the Golden Globe Awards this year, Nicole Kidman always looks stunning in anything that she puts on her tall elegant figure. She is the one who never loses her style and thus remains a modern female fashion icon even at the age of 44.

The youngest of five siblings, Blake Lively hails from Los Angeles. She started gaining recognition after her performance as Anabelle in ‘Elvis and Anabelle’ and as Bridget in ‘The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants’. She was cast as Serena van der Woodsen in the CW’s series ‘Gossip Girl’ in 2007, and since then, there is no looking back for this star. Her fashion is the best food for fashion critics and she never keeps them starving. On not having a stylist of her own, she told Elle magazine that when she is going to an event, she sends Christian Louboutin a picture of the outfit she is wearing and says, “What shoes do you think I should wear with this?” This is when having a designer friend comes in handy!

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, is no stranger when it comes to fashion. She’s admired by millions around the world not only because she is a princess but also for her sophisticated, elegant and chic style. She is often mentioned on numerous best dressed lists and is also known for mixing couture pieces with high street retail fashion. Kate is a female fashion icon in herself without being a Hollywood star. Her dressing style is watched closely by fashion critics wherever she goes, especially at her North America and Canada tour with her husband Prince William.

The former Mrs. Brad Pitt comes next on our list. The F.R.I.E.N.D.S. star has inspired us with her looks for decades. From the nude coloured Grecian gown that she wore at the Emmy’s in 2002 to the iconic dress she wore at the Vanity Fair party in 2006. From the Rachel haircut made famous through the sitcom to the tuxedo suit she pulled off at the LA premiere of ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ in 2009, Jennifer Aniston has been a regular in setting trends as a female fashion icon. Besides, she has always made herself look so effortless and this is something we are jealous of.

2. Emma Watson:

Emma rose to fame playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series. She was cast at the age of nine in 2001. She partnered with Burberry in the Autumn/Winter 2009 campaign and in the Spring/Summer campaign the next year for which she received a six figure fee. Despite her looks and daring red carpet gowns, she doesn’t consider herself a female fashion icon. She admitted to French Elle saying, “My problem is that I am a bit boring, I don’t wear designer bags or big sunglasses.” But she motivates us with her daring style every time we see her walking down the red carpet.
