Lok Sabha MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann, who is now contesting the Punjab Assembly elections from Jalalabad against arch rival Sukhbir Singh Badal, took on the BJP and PM Modi over the demonetisation issue in Parliament.

Mann, a vocal critic of PM Modi, raised the issue of mismanagement in handling the demonetisation issue by the government.

The stand-up comedian gave this amusing speech in Parliament:

Replying to a debate in Lok Sabha on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, the Prime Minister referred to an ancient philosophy which he said suggested people to drink ghee and quipped, “Drinking ghee was the tradition that time, if Bhagwant Mann had been there he might have suggested ‘something else’ to drink.”

Pictures had earlier gone viral which showed Mann allegedly drunk and struggling to get up from the floor and reportedly arrived in an inebriated state at meeting in Moga. However, Mann denied the claims saying he was a social drinker.

In 2015, Mann was reportedly drunk at a condolence meeting. He was also suspended from Lok Sabha after he filmed his journey to parliament which was believed to have compromised security.

However, a sulking Mann in video post on Twitter handle of AAP’s Punjab unit, said PM Modi’s speech shows his fear in elections. “He made some baseless allegations against me,” he added.

Earlier in his speech, PM Modi listed out the steps taken by his government to curb black money, including setting up of SIT, tightening the law on benami, Real Estate Bill, making PAN requirement mandatory for cash transactions of Rs 2 lakh and above and revision of tax treaties with countries like Mauritius, Singapore and USA.
