As of the end of 2013 Facebook has more than 1.23 BILLION users (Source: The Guardian) and an application database of over half a million applications. Some of those are complex things like Farmville or Mafia Wars but many of them are simple little fun apps that spread virally and make their creators a bag of ad revenue.
I know because I used to develop and sell those amusing little fun apps and had a bunch of them earning me ad revenue and had a regular supply of customers who would buy any new app that I created.
A few years ago Facebook once again pulled the rug from under developers feet and depreciated (a fancy way of saying made obsolete) a certain coding method for Facebook Apps.
And guess what?
All my apps at that time used that method.
Not having the time to adjust and recode all the apps I’d made it seemed a good idea to outsource the conversion work. I knew that for someone who knew the new way of doing things you could convert any one of my simple apps in under an hour including testing.
So I was shocked when I got the quotes back.
The cheapest quote from someone I struggled to understand due to language barriers was $200 just to do a conversion. The highest was a few dollars short of $3000, and there were quotes for just about every price between. I had dozens of these apps to change.
So I stopped selling apps on my web site.
Right about this time another part of my business was gaining strength so I gave up on the Facebook stuff for a while and sold off the more successful apps to other developers.
Now let’s fast forward a little…
As things settled down with the other areas of my business I once again began to look at the Facebook app market. I knew I could make good money there – I used to do that as a business on its own.
Just six months earlier I had been regularly getting results like this with nothing but the inbuilt viral nature of the apps…
ALL This traffic was built over 11 months all from doing a few wall posts and invites
myself when I launched it and then letting the viral nature of the app take over.
And these silly little apps pulled in the ad revenue too!
In the days when you could drop in Adsense and other ad providers ads these really pulled in some reasonable cash too. In fact $50-$200 a month per app was easily achievable before so many third party ad providers got disallowed from Facebook. But you can still monetize that traffic with your own banners and they could be linking to affiliate products, CPA offers or your own products and services.
Plus you can make money from selling copies of these apps to other people (Facebook is massive and competition just isn’t an issue with apps like this) for $30 – $100 a time.

But things had changed with Facebook…
I knew nothing about the new system for writing apps so if I wanted to break back into this market I’d have a big learning curve to deal with. And I was right.
But I am a programmer. For me learning this stuff isn’t impossible (although with the poor documentation Facebook provide its almost impossible).

How could anyone else break into this lucrative market if they knew nothing about programming, scripts or api’s (you don’t even have to know what api stands for to use my app creator).

Guys, this is the future. Like Andy said, its only scratching the future, Andy has shown you guys the door, you have to walk through it.
If a newbie like me can setup an app in 9 hours, you can do it in less.
Pretty much if you follow along and you have half a brain you can get this setup. However, going forward knowledge of PHP will be vital.
Also, his application is normal for only "basic" apps with little logic. Keep that in mind.
However possibilities are endless and I am glad that I have jumped in this sea of possibilities sooner rather then later.
