Maximum Fighting Championship put on a spectacular show last night at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta with one of their most explosive cards to date. The MFC crowned three new champions in Anthony Birchak, Sam Alvey and Anthony Hamilton. The fighters treated the loyal MFC fan base to several mind blowing finishes including an incredible head kick KO, a buzzer beating TKO with just seconds left in the fifth round and a new MFC Fastest Knockout record.

Anthony Birchak vs. Tito Jones
Round 1: Jones misses with a head kick and secures the body lock for a takedown but Birchak pops back to his feet only to get pushed into the corner. A knee from Jones lands low and Birchak is given time to recover. On the restart Birchak lands a kick to the body and they tie up on the ropes and he lands knees to the body. Birchak tries to drag him to the mat but Jones manages to stay on his feet. They trade a few shots and Birchak is able to get him down but Jones manages to land in the guard. Jones works the body before standing back up. Birchak lands a solid shot and gets the single to guard where he postures up and lands punches. Birchak stands before dropping to side control. Round 2: Birchak opens the second with a big knee and a solid right before bullying him into the corner. Birchak fires away with knees to the body and thighs and gets a hip toss to half guard. Birchak begins to chip away with short elbows and Jones escapes back to his feet and eats a few hard shots on the way up and Birchak brings him right back down. Birchak unleashes a flurry of elbows forcing Jones to give up his back. Birchak continues to fire away until he sees an opening and slips a rear naked choke under the chin forcing an instant tap from his overmatched opponent.

Sam Alvey vs. Jason South
Round 1: South lands a body kick and a pair of leg kicks before having a head kick blocked. Alvey comes alive and lands a combo that drops South to a knee and Alvey follows up with a knee to the body. South is cut over the right eye and they tie up against the ropes where Alvey connects with some knees. South drops for a single but Alvey defends only to have South take the back. Alvey is able to spin and get separation. Alvey connects with a big left hook South desperately ties him up in the corner. Alvey reverses and they trade shots with Alvey getting the better of the exchange. There’s another tie up and time expires in the opening stanza. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 Alvey

Round 2: A front kick from South grazes Alvey and a head kick is blocked. South looks for a takedown but it’s defended and the reset in the centre of the ring. South fails to connect with a pair of kicks and jumps in but gets dropped with a stiff right. Alvey lands a few shots on the ground before letting South back to his feet. Alvey connects again and a pair of rights stagger South and another drops him. Alvey again lets him back to hid feet and continues to light him up. Alvey drops him yet again, this time with a left and follows up with a couple hammerfists. South looks for a hail mary reverse triangle but Alvey defends and gets back up. South ties him up and Alvey knees to the thigh. The ten second warning sounds and they exchange a wild flurry for the rest of the round. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 Alvey

Round 3: South lands a shot and a leg kick and Alvey responds with a knee to the body and they tie up. South with a short elbow and knee to the body. South connects with a solid combo and they trade punches. Alvey connects with a vicious right and a big knee. South shoots for a takedown but Alvey defends and looks for a guillotine. After a lull in the action the referee breaks them apart and Alvey connects on the restart and South again looks for the takedown and presses him into the corner. South drags him to the mat but Alvey scrambles and gets on top before standing and kicking the legs for the final seconds of the round. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Alvey

Round 4: Alvey blocks a high kick and South barely connects with a spinning kick to the body. South lands a leg kick and connects with a right. Both men trade shots and South lands to the body and ties up in the corner another restart by the referee and South lands a leg kick and again right back into the corner. They trade little chipping shots and Alvey ends up on the other side of the ropes earning a warning from the referee. They restart and Alvey secures the clinch and lands the knee before they wind up back in the corner. Alvey with another big knee and South responds with a combo just before the bell. Round 5: Both men exchange but neither is landing with much power and they’re right back into the corner briefly. They separate and trade little shots before South gets him back into the corner and Alvey gets the reversal and again breaks free. Alvey lands a knee and a combo and South responds in kind. The two stand and go shot for shot but neither can generate the knockout power in the waning moments of the five round affair. South lands a shot below the belt and Alvey takes a few minutes. On the restart South has a front kick blocked and lands a leg kick. Alvey lands a shot and ties up in the corner. The referee brings them back to the centre and Alvey blocks a high kick and gets the clinch with a pair of knees. South hears the ten second warning and presses forward knowing he’s down on the scorecards. South’s desperation costs him as Alvey drops him with a huge counter right and finishes him off with a few more shots with just four seconds remaining on the clock. Spectacular finish to an entertaining fight.

Smealinho Rama vs. Anthony Hamilton
Round 1: They feel each other out briefly before Hamilton rushes in for the takedown and presses him into the ropes. Rama with a guillotine attempt but can’t lock it in on the much taller fighter. Hamilton is able to get the takedown and gets full mount where he lands a few shots. Rama works hard for the sweep and finally gets it and works back to his feet. A bloody Rama gets separation and connects with an elbow. Hamilton ties him up and drags him back down and Rama eats a solid right. Rama gets the clinch and lands a knee before again looking for a guillotine. Rama lets go and they engage and tumble to the mat with Hamilton landing in half guard. Hamilton is trying to land but can’t generate any power. Rama lands some nice elbows from the bottom and looks for a kimura as time expires. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 Rama

Round 2: Hamilton waits for his opening and connects with a thunderous head kick that sends Rama crashing to the mat and filled up with a big right but it’s not needed as Rama is already out cold.

Kurt Southern vs. Jonatas Novaes

Southern falls short with a high kick but connects with a right. Novaes laughs and responds with a hard leg kick before looking for the takedown. Southern defends and Novaes lands a shot and gets the takedown to full guard. Southern works back to his feet lands a huge right that drops Novaes. Southern follows him down and lands a few more. Southern stands and lets him up. They tie up in the corner and Southern works the head and body with little shots. They separate and Southern blocks a head kick before bullying in and sending Novaes crashing to the mat with a huge combo and follows him down to finish him off on the ground and exacting his revenge.

Matt Jelly vs. Aaron Gallant

Gallant immediately lands a right, left, uppercut combo and sets a new MFC record in the process, knocking Jelly out in just seven seconds.

Cody Krahn vs. Nick Campbell

Krahn lands a leg kick and they tie up and trade knees to the body. Krahn connects with a knee and Campbell counters with a right and a combo. Campbell tries to muscle him to the mat but Krahn is able to stay on his feet. Krahn sticks a few jabs and connects with a nice combo that briefly stuns Campbell. Krahn ties him up in the corner and Campbell lands a shot and a takedown but gets stuck in a triangle. Campbell tries to work the body but is ultimately forced to tap.

Paul Gerbinski vs. Sheldon Adamson

Adamson lands a big shot and they clinch up against the ropes where Gerbinski looks for a guillotine. Adamson gets the slam but ends up on the bottom stuck in north/south. Adamson works back to his feet and gets some space. Adamson lands a body kick and they tie up again. Gerbinski again secures the guillotine choke but this time pulls guard and is able to force the tap.
