The Charlotte Catholic boys’ and girls’ teams recently claimed North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 4A state championships.



Charlotte Catholic – NC girls 4A champion

The Charlotte Catholic boys defeated defending champion Apex, 11-8, to win the crown on May 23 at WakeMed Soccer Park. The Cougars closed at 22-3 and won their last 12 games. The title was Charlotte Catholic’s fourth championship, but first since the NCHSAA sanctioned the sport in 2010.

Senior Connor Pool had a team-high three goals for the Cougars.



Charlotte Catholic – North Carolina 2014 4A state champion

Charlotte Catholic’s girls (23-1) also defeated Apex for the state crown, 10-9. The Cougars, making their third straight trip to the state finals, closed the year with 16 straight wins.

Mia Castagnero led Charlotte Catholic with five goals and two assists.
