Level 26 of Sydney’s AMP Capital Building on Wednesday 8th June 2016, marking another successful year where the AFC solidified its Designers Abroad export program and helped bring the industry closer together to raise the profile of Australian fashion internationally.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop spoke at the event, demonstrating the importance of the AFC’s programs and of strategically building Australia’s creative potential on the trade front as well as Bryan Hynes, Managing Director, AMP Capital Shopping Centres on behalf of AMP Capital, the AFC’s principal sponsor and Edwina McCann, Editor of Vogue Australia.

For Romance Was Born’s Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett, who showcased in Paris as part of the AFC’s third Designers Abroad initiative in March, “Without the Australian Fashion Chamber’s support, we would not have been able to present our collection internationally. Designer Christopher Esber added, “Participating in The AFC showroom for Resort ‘15 last year was a coming-of-age for the brand on an international scale, with the collection gaining momentum and notoriety from major global boutiques and also key journalists.”

TONI&GUY Creative Direction Katy Reeve said “This is a really exciting event to be part of for the second year. Not only does it fuel our passion between the hair and fashion industry but it has the backdrop of the Vivid event in Sydney. We loved the hair inspirations this year which took references from editorials and fashion weeks in Australia and abroad. Working with the Australian Fashion Chamber reminds us how amazing our Australian designers are and how important it is for the hair industry to work seamlessly alongside it.”

AFC General Manger Courtney Miller said, “As a small not-for-profit, the Australian Fashion Chamber has really done a lot in the past year to engage and building Australia’s reputation – not just in fashion, but as a country that makes sophisticated and beautiful products that present a unique perspective.”

At the AFC event, overlooking the spectacular lights of the Vivid Sydney Festival, six models were styled by Mikey Ayoubi in Dion Lee, Emma Mulholland, Romance Was Born, Strateas Carlucci, Gary Begini and Kacey Devlin with, hair by national creative for Toni & Guy, Katy Reeve, and makeup by M.A.C.
