IMDB has revealed the most popular movie stars of 2015 and the number one actor may surprise you. According to the site, which is an invaluable resource for movie buffs around the world, the most popular thespian of the last 12 months is… Tom Hardy.

The site says the hype for ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ helped boost his popularity in 2015.

“The anticipation for ‘MM:FR’ and its subsequent success are the main reasons he tops our list,” IMDB says.

They add that his performances in ‘Legend’ and ‘The Revenant’ also generated a huge amount of interest online, before concluding: “In a time when leading men can wear bushy beards and even carry an extra pound or two, few actors out there do it better than Mr. Hardy.”

Hardy is the sole male actor to make the top 10 list which perhaps says more about the search habits of teenage boys than it does anything else. The next highest-placed male is ‘Fifty Shades’ star Jamie Dornan at number 15, followed by Chris Pratt at 17.

The Internet Movie Database contains pages for every actor, actress, filmmaker, movie, and TV show ever made, and this list is based on the number of times an actor’s profile was viewed throughout the year.

IMDB’s Arno Kazarian explains: “We looked at the 10 stars who consistently ranked the highest on the IMDb weekly STARmeter chart throughout 2015. IMDb STARmeter rankings are based on the actual page views of IMDb’s more than 250 million unique monthly visitors.”

The star of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ may have topped the actor list, but George Miller’s fourquel was beaten the top of the most popular movies list by Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’ (pictured above).
