Did you know that Sunday, November 17 is National Take a Hike Day?
Neither did I until I received a note from the nice folks at Petmate who alerted me to this special day. We think this is a terrific idea, even if there does some to be some mystery around the real meaning of the day!
Anyway, we encourage you to get out and take a hike this Sunday. It'll be great for both you and your pup.
And if you do, you might run across something like this...
These are the falls from our recent hike at Fort Mountain.
While we were at Fort Mountain, we learned about this nifty program with Georgia State Parks and the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA). The two have teamed up to encourage healthy walks in the woods through the Pets RXercise program.
Through this program, you and your pet can get a free pass for a walk in any Georgia State Park by getting a "prescription" from your veterinarian. The prescription is redeemed for free parking, which is normally $5.
Pets RXercise is part of the Georgia State Park System's Tons of Fun Fitness Challenge, in conjunction with the GVMA. The program is sponsored by Purina Veterinary Diets and Pfizer Animal Health. You can read more about it here. We think it's pretty cool!
Getting back to Take a Hike Day, we also received some suggestions from Petmate for a few nifty items to take along on your hike!
The Petmate Travel Bowls are collapsible, making them easy to take along and fit into small spaces so you'll always have a water or food bowl at the ready.
If you're camping or picnicking, the Petmate Pop-Up Pet Tentprovides a shaded home away from home for pets. I think I could fit in there with Rocco! It's constructed from heavy-duty water resistent canvas and folds out in seconds.
And of course, don't forget the poo bags! The Arm & Hammer Bone Dispenser and Biodegradable Waste Bagsharness the odor-neutralizing and freshening power of baking soda and the biodegradable waste bags are made from corn starch.
