According to Jason Scheer of Wildcat Authority, Arizona picked up a significant class of 2017 recruit, as 4-star running back Nathan Tilford verbally committed to the Wildcats on Tuesday.

Tilford visited the school on March 20 and apparently bonded with assistant coach Miguel Reveles, as Scheer reported on Twitter.

It seems Arizona has quite the coup, as it beat out some heavy hitters and even rival Arizona State for Tilford’s services.

Here is a report from Bleacher Report National Recruiting Analyst Tyler Donohue:

Tilford grew up a Trojans fan, according to Tom Loy of 247Sports, though USC already holds a commitment from fellow 4-star back Carr, who is considered the nation’s No. 2 running back in composite rankings. Among his current offers, Arizona State is particularly compelling since he also provides promise as a receiver, and the Sun Devils love to provide backs with a high volume of pass targets.

Tilford tallied 1,830 rushing yards, 228 receiving yards and 30 offensive touchdowns during the past two seasons, per MaxPreps.

Tilford, a 6’2”, 190-pound running back from Upland, California (Upland High School) is rated as a 4-star recruit according to 247Sports. The site tanks him as the No. 141 overall prospect in the class of 2017 and the 10th-best running back in the country. 247Sports also regards Tilford as the 17th-best football player in the state of California.

He chose the Wildcats over heavy interest from USC. Tilford also had offers from Arizona State, Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee and UCLA. He was also receiving interest from Notre Dame.

Tilford is the 6th commitment of Rich Rodriguez’s encouraging 2017 class. Tilford will join a class that includes 4-star athlete Greg Johnson, 3-star tight end Bryce Wolma, 3-star defensive tackle Kurtis Brown, 3-star weak-side defensive end Kylan Wilborn and 3-star dual-threat quarterback Rhett Rodriguez.

247Sports currently ranks Arizona’s 2017 recruiting class as the 21st-best in the country and the second best in the Pac-12 conference.
