Perhaps one of the most dreaded things for us, women, is to wake up and find that little devil pop on our face. Yes, it is the acne that I’m talking about. When you get acne, you feel terrible to say the least. That’s because, these annoying little things just stick on to you and refuse to leave without leaving their marks. We all do several things to get rid of our acne as soon as possible. From home remedies to cleansing masks, there is little that we tend to not experiment with. Some of us are even tempted to pop them but wait because that is not going to be effective as they will return and this time, stronger.

If you suffer from acne on a rather regular basis, you are surely familiar with that feeling of trying hard but not finding the right cure. In your attempts to get rid of your acne, there could be several times you end up increasing it. Understanding acne is important in order to treat them right. To make sure that you avoid getting them, you should first know why this acne won’t go away. So let’s look at the most common misconceptions that we have in relation to our acne.

3 reasons why your acne will not go away – your common misconceptions

Acne can definitely make you look unattractive. As a matter of fact, when you get acne, no matter what you wear or accessorize yourself with, people will only focus on those blisters and not you. You do have to rid of them but to do that effectively, get rid of your misconceptions about them first.

1.       Acne is just of one type

This is the first common belief that people have with regard to acne. We think all acne is same. But in reality, there are various types of acne. In order to cure your acne outbreak, you should know what type it is. This will help you understand what has triggered the acne on your skin and will help you prevent it in future. Among the various types of acne, the most common ones are –

Adult acne: Stress, pollution and hormonal imbalance is the cause of this type of acne. Many women get acne before or during their time of menstruation. This is due to the changes in hormone levels in the body. This type of acne is usually less stringent and goes away pretty easily or as soon as the hormones are back in their balance.

Cosmetic acne: Less common but difficult to erase is the cosmetic acne. This is caused because of certain ingredients in some cosmetics such as lanolin that may not be suitable for your skin type. When you get acne after using a new cosmetic, you may best avoid using it in future.

Medication-induced acne: this type of acne is caused due to reactions as a result of using certain drugs and medications.

2.       What you eat is not associated with your acne outbreak

While there is no scientific evidence to prove this, it has been found that by merely adjusting what you eat, you can keep acne in control. In order to keep a track of this, you can do some research online to identify foods that can cause acne and then check if your skin reacts when you eat them. Fried and greasy foods cause acne in most people. You don’t have to quit eating those foods entirely but eat in moderation.

3.       Over-the-counter drugs are good for acne

It might sound weird but the truth is a lot of acne treatments that you find at most pharmacies can do more harm than good. These drugs may contain chemicals that may further harm you. Consulting a skin specialist is important than just taking drugs that claim to solve your acne issue.

Acne can be treated but before you look at your options, you must understand what has caused your acne. This will give you a rather permanent solution to your acne problem even if you are prone to it.
