Venture Republic Group has acquired online tour package startup Flocations as part of an expansion strategy around the Asia-Pacific region.
No terms were disclosed by VRG for its purchase of the three-year-old, Singapore-based company.
Venkatraman Dhamodaran and Shaw Chian from the founding team (alongside CEO Tudor Coman and Florian Cornu) will be joining VRG and will continue to run the regular operations at Flocations.
The company, which started out as a highly visual, search-by-maps travel tool, had previously raised $600,000 in December 2012.
Five months later, in April 2013, it scrapped the original vision and switched to the package travel listing service.
It currently works with 80 tour and travel agency businesses in Singapore and Indonesia, acting as a public-facing intermediary to sell more than 8,000 packages across South East Asia.
VRG runs the metasearch and travel media platform Travel.jp, a business which has grown to include over one million air fares, hotels and packages on its system.
Kei Shibata, CEO of Venture Republic who already had a seat on the board of directors at Flocations, says:
“The Flocations team has always impressed me with their innovative approach to travel discovery. Their current business is very much in sync with ours.
“We can’t wait to leverage on what they’ve built so far to offer more exciting travel experiences for the region.”
NB: Flocations was one of two winners at the THack @ WIT Singapore event in October 2012.
