As a fan of both the graphic novel and the 1994 film, I find myself very much anticipating this remake. And I would like to specify that I do not anticipate very many remakes of great films. Let’s think about the original film for a second… You have the beautiful performance by the late Brandon Lee, the almost-virtual world that director Alex Proyas created and the awesome rock music around that time (Stone Temple Pilots, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, etc.) which served as the film’s aroma not just its soundtrack. With all of that bonding together, we got in result an amazing film. This time, the odds are definitely stacked against. I hope that I am proved wrong.

Corin Hardy, a director of music videos for such artists as Ed Sheeran and The Prodigy, has been tapped as F. Javier Gutierrez’s successor to the upcoming remake of The Crow.

Gutierrez (Before the Fall), who took over for the film first director choice, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) has been rumored to have left the film due over a scheduling conflict with his next project, the third installment of The Ring film series.

With this film set to start production in spring 2015, Hardy may seem like a novice, but apparently has some good and famous friends in the industry. It is being reported that director Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) recommended Hardy to the film’s producer, Edward R. Pressman, who also produced the original film.

The film has had many script revisions with the most recent one coming from Cliff Dorfman (Warrior). James O’Barr, the author of the graphic novel, will serve as a creative consultant for the film.

Luke Evans (Dracula Untold) is still set to play the film’s protagonist, Eric Craven.

He has said in many interviews that the film will be as faithful to the original film and the novel as possible.

Written by O’Barr and published in 1989, the story follows Craven, who after being brutally murdered rises from the grave and becomes known as The Crow. His sole mission is to avenge the death of his beloved fiancee, who was murdered by a local street gang.

Evans will next be seen in the final installment of The Hobbit Trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. As Bard the Bowman, Evans co-stars alongside actors Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, Evangeline Lilly and Lee Pace. The film will be released on December 17th.

He will also star in the 2015 action drama, High-Rise, alongside actors Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Serena Miller and Elisabeth Moss. It is set to be released sometime in 2015.

It is still unclear when this film will be released, but who knows maybe this guy is just what the film needs. Plus if he does a bang up job, he could find himself at the beginning of a great career in film. Good Luck, Sir.
