Kaztet Dee has rocked the mic in India numerous times, racking up a loyal subcontinental following skanking to his every word. For those who know, Reggae Rajahs are India’s first reggae sound system. The trio composed of Diggy Dang, Mr. Herbalist and DJ MoCity (Iraq’s first soundboy) are reggae entertainers and promoters based out of New Delhi. They operate in a traditional Jamaican sound system style with one DJ and two MC’s. Known for their energetic live Performances, the Rajahs released their first official single on Reggaeville / Oneness Records just recently this year. They are dedicated to spreading the positive, conscious message of reggae music across India and overseas! THU 09/08 – GHOST CRABS ‘60s A-GO-GO (‘60S PSYCHEDELIA)

We were so excited by the energy of Ghost Crabs’ debut gig at T.L.R. in June that we had to have them back. For this gig, the Ghost Crabs have assembled a theme to pay tribute to ‘60s psychedelic music and culture, so let’s a-go-go-go baby yeah! Fronted by the inimitable Italian Paolo Fattori a.k.a. “The Guru Crab”, supported by El Salvadorian Sergio Dinarte a.k.a. “The Jumping Crab”, TUSHAR GOYAL a.k.a. “The Rolling Crab” and Delhiite Karan Malhotra a.k.a. “The Shocking Crab”, together the four crabs form “a new Phychedelic-beat band, with different flavours o R’n'R, Indian music, a smell of Latin and Italian.”

FRI 10/08 – IMPORTED GO(O)DS VOL.16 feat. EAST STEPPER (GLOBAL BASS)

For its latest edition, Imported Go(o)ds presents East Stepper, a producer praised by the likes of DJ Nihal (BBC Radio 1 UK) and Bobby Friction (BBC Asian Network) for blending the sounds of Indian folk and traditional music with raw electronic dance music. Think Global, Listen Local – Imported Goods is a trans-national movement to spread music from the farthest corners of the globe, tearing down geographic borders and encouraging communal harmony through music and culture. The Indian ambassadors of this movement are DJ Mo City and DJ Su Real, both having played a key role in introducing new genres to the Indian dancefloor in recent years.

SAT 11/08 – PRAVEEN ACHARY + VIPUL (EDM)

The new age Indian dance music producers and artists are creating their presence far and wide. Praveen Achary grew up in Lebanon and Canada, where dance music had a major influence on him. His diverse international sound is influenced from his strong musical background as well as traveling across the world. In late 2009, he signed his debut original single ‘Crossover’ on ‘Maktub Music’, owned by Arjun Vagale & Nicolas Silvano, a monster big-room tune with a star cast of great remixes on board that received play among A-list DJs & producers. Meanwhile, Vipul was heavily influenced by DJs and artists such as Darin Epsilon, Sasha , John Digweed, Robert Babicz, Chris Micall, Audiofly and Tim Davison. Vipul’s sets are open to many different styles and genres – he has found himself working mostly in a very funky, tech-house sound that also draws on jackin’ and hypnotic elements. Vipul’s first track, “Persian Love” in 2010 was repeatedly played out by artists like Tocadisco , Blank and Jones , and Muzikjunki.

THU 16/08 – T.L. MAZUMDAR feat. TRITHA (NU R&B)

An experimental singer-songwriter, T.L. grew up on three continents and four countries. He says, “As a kid, I wanted to be on stage with an out-of-tune guitar and sing for people. But I ended up spending the past decade turning into a Live/Studio musician who spent more time in cellars in search of sound. So this is how I bring my two worlds together. The dreamer and the nerd.” His live performances are an unconventional mix of Pop-Songs played with a spontaneous and improvised spirit backed with soundscapes echoing strains of World-Music, Jazz and Electronic music. Special guest for this event is the talented multi-genre, multi-instrumentalist and sublime vocalist Tritha who has developed a loyal following through her shows at T.L.R.

SAT 18/08 – SECOND SUMMER OF LOVE feat. PROFESSOR SMILEY (ACID HOUSE)

A summer that lasted a whole year, a sequel to the cultural Big Bang that was the Woodstock Music Festival in ’69, a movement that defined not only electronic music, club culture and nightlife but perhaps the new religious experience of the globalized homo sapien petrochemicus. Between 1988-89, in UK, a nebulous network of DJ’s and promoters organized a seemingly never-ending series of parties that defined a generation and inspired those that followed. They called it “Rave”, “Acid House”, “Madchester”. They re-introduced the Smiley face – and in a way it represented courage against adversity during a time when people had lost their faith in government and the military-capitalist-industrial complex, yet again. And they took to the streets and highways and fields in the countryside in droves to congregate at “raves”, large public gatherings, to express – through music, dance, art and creativity – their opposition to the current system and their hope for a better, more inclusive future. Professor Smiley a.k.a. Su Real (Disco 31 resident) drops the science, House Music 101 on ya.

At Berklee in U.S.A., he has had the honor of studying with drummers such as Ian Froman, Casey Scheurell, Bob Gullotti and Kim Plainfield. He is also working under Grammy winning pianist Danilo Perez and Marco Pignataro at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, an organization that aims to advance the social power of music. On this gig Kartikeya is joined by the prolific Sahil Warsi (Syncopation, Drift, etc.) on upright bass and the accomplished Pranav Pahwa (Jester, Five 8, Groove Adda) on guitar.

FRI 24/08 – WAZULU THE ILL DRAVIDIAN + HE RA (HIP HOP)

Originally from Bangalore India, Wazulu represents his Dravidian roots by fusing Indian street rhythms with beats that drop so deep he brings new meaning to the concept of owning a “swing” in hip hop music. Traditional melodies of exotic instruments and mystical voices, layered between the spacious sway of rhythmic pendulums rooted within flavors of the urban, Wazulu’s music has the power to move any listener into a staccato, slow-motion bounce that can only be resurrected from the depths of the earth. Where O.G.’s meet original gypsies and emcees flow over bellydancers. He is joined by DJ HeRa – bboy, community organizer, and founder/ director of Tiny Drops Hip Hop Community Center. He says, ‘I’m just another dude from the block. My Journey has been magical as its taking place in the universe and I’m able to feel both the physical and metaphysical – so its nice to be in a dance between both worlds, instead of being just stuck in one.”
