Tourism Timmins, in partnership with Midnight Express and title sponsors, Northern Tel, Fountain Tire, James Toyota, Northern College, La Caisse Populaire de Timmins  and Francophonie 400 will be launching the 6th annual Summer Concert Series  on June 24th from the TH&VS Pavilion, Hollinger Park. This musical event will feature local talent or musicians with a connection to Timmins every Wednesday starting June 24th to Aug 26th 2015 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

In addition, two concerts are scheduled for Bannerman Park on Thursday July 30th and Aug 13th thanks to the generous support received from Rubino Petro Canada, Timmins Retirement Homes, Tisdale Plumbing, McDonald’s Pharmacy, Gorf Contracting, L Richards Moving, East End Service Centre, Porcupine Home Hardware, Stinson Funeral Home, Goldcorp, Giant Tiger, Minuteman Press and Roztek,

Summer Concert Series 2015, will feature 29 performing artists of different genres  including blues, big band, country, rock, pop, progressive rock, adult contemporary, and alternative from Hollinger Park and Bannerman Park.

“ This year in the context of Ontario 400, a provincial celebration of Francophone culture,  artists such as Carole Champagne and Estelle & John will perform some French songs including a special song written by Estelle Deschamps,  “Hier a Aujourd’hui “  which she composed  in honour of the Francophoni celebration.  Furthermore, Celeste Levis and Mathieu Langevin, two recent competitors at this year’s La Voix (The Voice), will delight audiences on Canada Day with a bilingual performance not to be missed” added Lamarche

A voluntary admission of non perishable goods is encouraged again this year in support of both the Timmins and South Porcupine food banks. To date more than 22,000 lbs of food has been collected during the Summer Concert Series.

“Based on the success of last year’s event, I’m not surprised to see so many musicians apply to be considered for this year’s lineup” said Luc Chalifoux of Midnight Express and co-host of the Summer Concert Series.”

“There is a huge appetite from the community, and obviously from the musicians for this event. The generous corporate support from so many dedicated businesses is commendable and has allowed us to hire a minimum of 2 bands per week with some weeks seeing three performances. Just as importantly, the generous support has allowed Tourism Timmins and Midnight Express to grow the event by incorporating two shows from Bannerman Park. Last year the Summer Concert Series attracted thousands of people to Hollinger Park thanks in large part to the local media support that the event receives each year. We expect much of the same this year. ” added Mayor Black

“The public call to action inviting musicians to submit an application resonated with artist from Timmins and beyond. I expect that the visiting bands will attract residents from their respective communities and elsewhere to the Summer Concert Series and this will generate incremental business for the hospitality and retail sectors. Last year, of the 355 surveys completed, 11% indicated that they were visiting the city, with some visitors from neighbouring communities indicating that the weekly concerts was the reason for their visit.  I’m also hoping to see our accommodation partners develop and promote a shopping/concert getaway to Timmins, something that could attract a greater number of visitors from neighboring communities.” said Guy Lamarche, Manager Tourism, Events & Communications.
