Event Description: Join us for a very special presentation by Erika Pankiw as she will discuss her personal story with mental illness and recovery. This event is a partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association to help raise awareness about mental illness as part of Mental Health Week. SCIENCE ODYSSEY EVENT AT THE LIBRARY – FUN WITH TECHNOLOGY FOR SENIORS Thursday, May 12, 2016 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Timmins Public Library – Main Branch. Curiosity knows no age limits! Have a fun afternoon exploring and getting your hands on new technology at the Timmins Public Library! Make a simple sketch into an object with our 3D printer, play a tune on an unconventional keyboard with a MaKey-MaKey, and have a unique souvenir photo taken with our green screen! Science Odyssey 2016 is a part of the Government of Canada’s nationwide celebration of science running from May 05-16, 2016. On May 17th at 2 p.m. learn about the history and principles of this cultural tradition. Enjoy a taste of fine matcha (powdered green tea) and admire the aesthetics of the tea room set-up. 4. Northern Ontario Expo returns for their 6th year this May 7th and 8th, 2016 at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex and Arena! 6. It’s that time again – time to start thinking of a Culture Days Event for 2016! Join Ontario Task Force Members, Karina Douglas and Marnie Lapierre, along with Catherine McLeod (via Internet), Animator/Co-Ordinator of Culture Days in Ontario in the Tembec Room of the Timmins Public Library for an information session about Culture Days and planning an event. New and past participants are encouraged to attend and be inspired by one another. This invitation is open to all local artists and arts & culture groups who are interested in presenting an event which takes place on September 30th, October 01st, and October 03rd this year. 7. On May 15th at 10 a.m., there will be a Spring Vendor’s Event at the Ramada Inn, Timmins with 27 vendors at the event, they will doing demonstrations at their table throughout the day. We will have baked goods, jewelry, books and much more.

8. On May 27th, students and support staff of Timmins High, Kiskinohamatowin and O’Gorman High have teamed up to organize the All Nations Pow Wow 2016. Singers, Dancers, Elders, Parents, Families, Schools, and Community members are all welcome to attend, participate, learn and enjoy. The All Nations Pow Wow is a celebration of life and we invite all to attend and celebrate with us! Participark, 10:00 a.m.

9. ART+HEART is an informal social gathering for artists and art enthusiasts in Timmins. Artists are encouraged to bring their art implements: notebooks, pens, paint, instruments, etc. to share their art with others. There will be a microphone set up for an open mic so attendees can read, sing, speak, etc. It’s going to be a fun, free-flowing, and fantastic event! ART+HEART will be held monthly on the last Saturday of every month at Christopher’s Coffee House.

• May 15th, 1 p.m. The Walk for Alzheimer’s is the leading nationwide fundraising event for Alzheimer Socities in Canada. • May 19th The Nova Awards are the Chamber’s flagship event, celebrating the very best that Timmins businesses have to offer. • On May 27th, there will be a charity volleyball game at Ecole Publique Renaissance. Les Jags and EMS vs TPS and OPP. The game kicks off at 11:30 a.m. and proceeds go to Cystic Fibrosis.

• St. Matthew’s is hosting their annual wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres evening on Friday May 27, 2016. The event takes place in the parish hall, 331 Fifth Ave. The event is an evening of wine tasting pared with hors d’oeuvres. Cost is $25 per person, doors open at 6:30pm. • The Canadian Diabetes Association is hosting their 5th Annual Grape Expectations Gala on Saturday, May 28 at the Days Inn from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. The event is an evening of wine tasting from around the world including wine displays and information, silent auction prizes, and much more. Tickets are $45 each and include the wine sampling glass and appetizers. All proceeds from this event will stay local to help those in the community with diabetes and pre-diabetes. • On May 28th The Moneta Pub will host the Porketta Bingo. Cost: $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Additional cards can be purchased for $5 to increase your odds of winning. Different from normal bingo, porketta bingo is played on the cards made up of three cards from a deck of 53 playing cards, joker included. Once all three of the numbers on your card are called, you yell “Porketta!” and you win a pound of porketta, cut up in pieces and served with a bun. Bring it back to your table and enjoy it right there! Friends love when you share. Keep in mind, if you yell “Bingo”, YOU WILL get booed. But it’s all in the fun of the game!
