Reporting to the Manager of Public Utilities, the Instrumentation/Electrical Specialist will plan, coordinate and coordinate general maintenance, repair, installation, calibration, testing, and safety of the electrical, instrumentation, communication and control systems within the Timmins Water Filtration Plant and Water Pollution Control (Facilities).

DUTIES:

• Coordinate, participate and monitor work and contractors in the maintenance, repair, installation, calibration, testing, and safety of the electrical, instrumentation, communication and control systems within the Facilities.

• Schedule regular inspections to ensure that such work is fully compliant with the “Electrical Safety Authority” standards and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code,

• Perform daily inspections of electrical systems and coordinate work as required on electrical systems (programming, trouble shooting),

• Assist Maintenance Supervisor to investigate equipment malfunctions and provides solutions and recommendations for remedial action.

• Conduct research into program specific issues, ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.

• When required, prepare specifications, reports and sketches, evaluations of equipment and prepare service purchase orders associated with the electrical needs of the plants.

• Participate in the pre-design, design and implementation stages of Capital Works Projects.

• Participate on the Corporation’s energy efficiency program associated with upgrades undertaken at other Municipal Facilities,

• Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in the development and management of budgets for the Facilities,

• Liaise with Hydro-Electric Supply Authorities and the Electrical Safety Authority on electrical system issues associated with Facilities,

• Be available to address issues that may arise after hours (on-call requirements) for the Facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Community college diploma in civil, electrical, mechanical, engineering, architecture, environmental studies/technology or a related field.

• Certificate in Construction and Maintenance Electrician and Ministry of Environment Class I Operators License mandatory

• A minimum of three (3) years related experience.

• Broad knowledge of relevant processes (water and wastewater), electrical controls, programmable controllers, data communication circuits (SCADA), instrumentation.

• Ability to interpret electrical drawings and specifications.

• Good knowledge of MOE regulations pertaining to water/wastewater treatment.

• Understanding of building automation, HVAC, lighting and metering systems;

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Software.

• Excellent analytical, asset management and decision making skills;

• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and report writing skills;

• Fluency in both official languages would be an asset.

• Current and clear Criminal Background Check.
