Tree seedling, wildflower sale
Now is the perfect time to start planning for your spring plantings by ordering tree seedlings through the Highland Soil and Water Conservation District’s Annual Tree Seedling Sale. This year’s sale will offer hardy seedlings, as well as wildflower seed packets and white vinyl flags. There will be a variety of tree seedling packets offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Addiction series at Peace Lutheran
A free seven-part “Baffled By Addiction” educational series presented my Ed Hughes, and Ronald Turner, M.D., will presented on Thursdays through March 17, at Peace Lutheran Church, 231 Harry Sauner Road, Hillsboro. The series will provide education, help and hope to loved ones of addicted persons. Topics to be covered include: The Disease of Addiction, The Progression, Hitting Bottom – How Alcoholic/Addict Decides to get Help, Then Ways You Can Help, The Recovery Process, and Real Stories of Hope. Paint Creek Fire District
The Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 at Station 1, 640 N. Washington St., Greenfield.
Fairfield board work session
The Fairfield Local School Board of Education will hold a work session at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 9 in the District Office Conference Room. No action will be taken. The public is invited to attend.
Give Back to School Night
A “Give Back to School Night” fundraiser for the Greenfield Middle School Eighth Grade choir will be held from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 9 at Subway in Greenfield. Ten percent of all sales at Subway that day will be donated back to the choir.
HDH, health department meeting
The Joint Township Hospital District Trustees and the Highland County Health Department will hold their annual meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday March 9 in the boardroom at Highland District Hospital.
Highland County PERI meeting
The Highland County Chapter of Public Employee Retirees, Inc. meeting will be Thursday, March 10 at 10m a.m. at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center, 185 Muntz St. Hillsboro. The speaker will be Ashley Grazilla, a registed dietician specialist at Highland District Hospital. All members and guests are welcome.
Lynchburg fish fry
The Lynchburg Area Joint Fire and Ambulance District will hold a fish fry from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 11 and Friday, March 25 at Lynchburg Station 1, 8123 SR 135. the menu for both days: fish, shrimp, French fries, hot dogs, homemade hush puppies and cole slaw, coffee, tea, lemonade and water. It will also accept donations of deserts that will be part of the meals. All of the proceeds from these events will be used to support the Lynchburg Area Fire and Ambulance District.
The members of the Lynchburg Area Joint Fire and Ambulance District would like to dedicate these fish fries to the memory of Captain Sharon Higgins, who succumbed to her fight with pancreatic cancer on March 5, 2015. Higgins dedicated 30 years to the Lynchburg community serving as a firefighter, EMT, and paramedic with the Lynchburg Area Fire and EMS services. She also served 23 years with the University of Cincinnati Air and Mobile Care. She was a great friend, mentor and co-worker.
Greenfield Methodist concert
The Greenfield First United Methodist Church, 405 South St., will host The McKeameys at 7 p.m. Friday, March 11. A freewill offering will be taken. Please bring a nonperishable food items for the Greenfield Area Christian Center Food Pantry.
Brushcreek spaghetti dinner
A spaghetti dinner will be held Saturday, March 12 at the Brushcreek Community Center (Sinking Spring gym). Serving starts at 5 p.m. The menu will consist of spaghetti, rolls, salad, coney dogs, barbecue, homemade desserts, coffee, pop and water. Freewill donations will be accepted.
Ham Bingo at senior center
Ham Bingo at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center is Saturday, March 12. From noon to 1 p.m. there will be cake walks and dining. Bingo is from 1-4 p.m. Food is available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the senior center. Games are 25 center per card, per game. The community is invited. Must be 18 or older to play. Call 393-4745 for details.
St. Patrick’s Day Brunch
The Highland County Historical Society will host a St. Patrick’s Day Brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13. The menu will include potatoes O’Brien, veggie quiche, sausage gravy and biscuits, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, pastries and drinks. Music At St. Mary’s
The Music At St. Mary’s concert series will continue at 3 p.m. March 13 with the annual Lenten Concert. This will feature music focusing on the Lenten season presented on piano, flute and organ. Performing will be Lynn Lowell, Jennie Harner and John Glaze. Future concerts will include The Voices of Ohio and the Cincinnati Children’s Choir. The Music At St. Mary’s Concert Series program is presented at no cost; however, donations are received following each concert. Concerts begin at 3 p.m., last about an hour and are followed by a reception in Lacy Hall. The church is located at 234 N. High St. in Hillsboro.
Fast Times 4-H Club meeting
The Fast Times 4-H Club will hold its first meeting for the year at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 14 at the McCoy Farm, 7482 Overman Rd., Hillsboro. Fast Times focuses on roping and gymkhana (speed) events which include ground roping, dummy roping, barrel racing and pole bending. The club has grown over the past few years and would welcome new members interested in learning more about these types of events. You can join the club even if you belong to another one. Rainsboro Election Day Dinner
The Rainsboro United Methodist Church will have an Election Day Lunch & Dinner on March 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the church basement. A freewill offering will be accepted. The menu: chicken and noodles, beef and noodles, bean soup and cornbread, mashed potatoes, green beans, slaw, sandwiches, drinks, and lots of pies and cakes.
St. Mary Quarter Raffle
St. Mary School will have its Spring Quarter Raffle on Tuesday, March 15. Dinner will start at 5:30 p.m. and the raffle will begin at 6:30 p.m. Each classroom will provide baskets for the raffle along with products from the vendors and local businesses. Cabin Fever Arts Festival
The Appalachian Artisans Guild presents its 13th consecutive Cabin Fever Arts Festival on Saturday, March 19th at the Southern State Community College Patriot Center in Hillsboro. The event will showcase handcrafted traditional folk art and one-of-a-kind fine art by juried artists. Over 60 booths will offer unique craft and art creations, including quilts, jewelry, ceramics, pottery, clothing, paintings, metal and woodworking items, and more. Besides crafts and artwork, there will be live music and food concessions. The doors will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Lunch With the Easter Bunny
SATH (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped) will sponsore Lunch With the Easter Bunny from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at the Hopewell Center at 5350 West New Market Rd. The children will have lunch, make an Easter craft, decorate eggs, have their picture taken with the Easter Bunny and at 12:30 there will be an Easter egg hunt. Bring a basket or container for the eggs you find at the hunt. The cost is $8 per child and $5 for adults. OVRDC officers election
The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission (OVRDC) Full Commission Meeting & Election of Officers will be held Friday, March 18 at the UC Clermont College Student Activity Center, 100 Clermont College Dr., Batavia. Registration will be at 10:30 a.m., the meeting at 11 a.m. and lunch at 12:30 p.m. Keynote speaker will be Dan Neff of the Appalachian Regional Commission. More Than an Easter Egg Hunt
More Than an Easter Egg Hunt will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene. Everyone is welcome. There will be age appropriate egg hunts, coloring, caterpillar-train ride, cookie decorating, lunch and pictures with the Easter Bunny.
