HANGOMA Youth Foundation (HYF) is an exigent and innovative not-for-profit organisation which was founded in Livingstone on December 31, 2014.

Its main objective is creating a platform of Social inclusions by utilising events such as pageants, fashion shows, sports  and arts with themes on issues that challenge communities’ bias towards disability, right, livelihood, health and education.

The main purpose of HYF is to create a platform for the underprivileged (persons with disabilities and people living with HIV and AIDS among other social issues), by showcasing their untapped and usually over looked talents and arts such as stage drama, singing/music, reciting poems, and modeling.

This is done through various talent search events so as to facilitate their re-acceptance in the community by advocating for skills empowerment, job creation, human rights, recreation facilities specially designed to mainstream disability and providing relevant information and materials on Disability, Rights and health.

In terms of the vision, the firm was set up to create an enabling environment for the under-privileged to enjoy a wholesome and satisfying life.

Its mission statement is to be the leading player for the rights of the under privileged through talent exhibitions, job creation, skills empowerment and advocacy.

OBJECTIVES

•       To help under privileged children and youths discover and exploit their talents through modeling, fashion, sport, and arts.

•       To participate in the promotion of both domestic and international tourism through exchange programs relevant to our pursuit.

•       To advocate for the rights of the disabled children and youths, such as health, education, skills development, and empowerment.

•       To give hope to under privileged children and young people, for them to realize their potential.

•       To help inculcate a culture of good morals for children and young people.

•       To work / network and associate with local and international institutions/companies/NGOs with similar objectives.

PAGEANTS (Miss Junior Independence/ Miss Inter Schools) HYF Pageants endeavors to address various social issues that hinder the progression of women and girls with disabilities in their pursuit of freedom of expression with regards to their rights and independent living through creation of a platform where talented and yet

differently abled girls from different schools can compete for the Miss Junior Independence title as a way of enabling our target group

to be able to express themselves in various way.

This innovation will enhance and improve the quality of life of girls with disabilities with inclusion of none disabled vulnerable girls

through maximum and critical interaction with the mainstream under the theme “I will play my part diligently.’’

ACHIEVEMENTS

•       On 14th August, 2015-succefully hosted the Inclusive Educational

Tour to the Livingstone Museum and Mukuni Big5 with a Pac of 32 people

both abled and differently abled from different schools and different

special needs which included : Vision impaired persons, physically challenged, Deaf and Dump etc.

•       On 25th April, 2015- succefully hosted the Livingstone Inclusive Talent Grand Finale

•       On 21st February, 2015- successfully conducted the Livingstone

Inclusive Talent search

•       10th January, 2015 – Presented New Year gift bags to 8 children and 4 adults with a theme on Social Inclusions having different disabilities.

•       31 December 2014 – Founded Hangoma Youth Foundation (HYF)

•       Involved in Kazungula/Livingstone Community Based Rehabilitation as

a Volunteer

•       3rd December, 2014. Participated in the International Day of the Disabled

•       2014 – Successfully sponsored a 10 year old partial deaf kid with a hearing Aid and her entire school fees paid for, for the entire year at Mujala Democratic School.

•       15thNovember, 2014. Successfully  organized the Trashion Fashion Show

•       24th October, 2014. Enabled the physically challenged 15 years old girl to sight a poem during the Jubilee Celebration where the Deputy

Minister of Tourism was the Guest of Honor.

•       2012 Participated in the Put Foot Rally where 405 pairs of School Shoes, School Bags and pairs of Socks were distributed to the pupils of Senkobo Basic School.
