“Green Monday”—which is today, Monday, December 10—may not be the well-known phenomenon that Cyber Monday is. If the deals are as good as Cyber Monday, however, that won’t matter. The vast majority of retailers offer one-day deals for Cyber Monday, and they brand them as such. This isn’t necessarily the case on Green Monday, which is the second Monday in December, and which is so-named because it’s traditionally a very big day for online retailers to make green, i.e., money. Some, but not all that many, retailer websites are hosting official “Green Monday” sales—Walmart, for instance. Other sites are simply hosting big sales that are similar to those on Cyber Monday, without bothering to mention that “Green Monday” is the occasion. This may be because stores don’t want to have to explain what the heck Green Monday is. While this week does not necessarily represent the last opportunity for online shoppers to secure free shipping, we’re getting to the point that consumers want to start placing the orders that they absolutely must have in hand before December 25. Frankly, while some of the deals below are as good as anything we saw on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, many other specials offered today come up short. For example, Abercrombie & Fitch had a 40% off special on Black Friday, but is only knocking off 25% sitewide on Monday, December 10.
