Terrapin Flyer

For the past 14 years Terrapin Flyer has been performing with a revolving cast of some of the finest musicians in the Grateful Dead family and continuing the tradition of bringing the familiar music of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band to bold new improvisational places. The band began performing as Grateful Dead keyboardist Vince Welnick's band in the Midwest from 2000 until 2006 when he passed away. From there Terrapin Flyer formed touring relationships with Melvin Seals from the Jerry Garcia Band, Tom Constanten from the Grateful Dead, Bob Bralove from the Grateful Dead and Mark Karan from The Other Ones and Ratdog. With these icons of Grateful Dead music, Terrapin Flyer has performed at prominent venues and headlined large festivals across the United States and is one of the premier Grateful Dead touring bands in the United States.

Melvin Seals, who has been performing with Terrapin Flyer for 10 years was Jerry Garcia's right hand man for the last 15 years of Garcia's life. He is the only person who both performed at Jerry's wedding and his funeral. Melvin is considered one of the best Hammond B3 players in the world and his playing is synonymous with the JGB sound. With an infectious smile and stunning and improbable solos Melvin performs both Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band songs in Terrapin Flyer.

Mark Karan was brought in to replace Jerry Garcia's slot in 1998 when former Grateful Dead members reunited as The Other Ones. He performed for The Other Ones again on their 2000 tour and recorded on their only album in 1999.  In 1998 he joined Ratdog, a band led by former Grateful Dead rhythm guitarist Bob Weir and continued to perform with Weir for the next 13 years. With a solid strength and comprehension of blues and soul music and a quest for the perfect tone, Karan is a consummate guitarist who has performed with a who's who of musicians on both live and studio settings.

Wavy Dave Burlingame also plays banjo in the band Cornmeal for last 14 years. During that time Cornmeal became a staple in the bluegrass and jamband world performing at festivals and prominent venues throughout the nation. He has also been playing in Terrapin Flyer since the band began in early 2000.

Jim Farmer and Doug Hagman also are performing on this tour and have been performing with Terrapin Flyer since the inception of the band. They have both performed previous tours with Melvin Seals, Vince Welnick, Tom Constanten and Mark Karan.

Together, Terrapin Flyer with these performers is a powerhouse of musical talent that has delighted legions of deadheads across the nation.

Melvin Seals

Melvin Seals has been a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years with a long-established reputation as a performer, recording artist and producer. He has played with legends such as Chuck Berry, Charlie Daniels and Elvin Bishop. But perhaps Melvin is most revered for his powerful and high-spirited Hammond B-3 organ and keyboards in the Jerry Garcia Band, adding his gospel-soul touches to the rhythm and blues base of the JGB.

Mark Karan

Renowned guitarist and singer Mark is best known for performing with the extended Grateful Dead family (Bob Weir & Ratdog, Phil Lesh & Friends, The Other Ones), as well as several other powerhouse bands in the jam-band scene, such as Jemimah Puddleduck, The Rock Collection, and Ghosts of Electricity. Before crossing over into the land of the Dead, Mark worked his guitar and vocal voodoo for the likes of Dave Mason, Delaney Bramlett, the Rembrandts, Paul Carrack, Huey Lewis, Jesse Colin Young, and Sophie B. Hawkins.
