The Norm

Singer-songwriter Bryan Rucker is the dynamic frontman and driving force behind an electrifying new band called The Norm. Comprised of he and his step-brother and rapper Ryan Bars, the duo combine their urban roots with layers of funk, reggae, pop, rock, and hip hop to achieve a sound that is both unique and captivating.

Originally from Miami, Florida, Bryan Rucker grew up in a musical household. His father, Steve Rucker, was a member of the Bee Gees band and played with other music legends such as Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, and Jaco Pastorious.

The Norm got their start in their garage in 2010 when Rucker and Bars began experimenting with musical styles to elevate what was considered the musical “norm.” In 2012 Rucker moved to Milledgeville, GA to film a show for TLC. Shortly after the show became a success, Bars moved to Milledgeville to join his brother and the two formed a band to perform the songs they had written together. In 2014, they shared the stage with Randall Bramblett, Family & Friends, Little Hurricane, and Heartless Bastards at the Deep Roots Music Festival. The band’s quick rise prompted them to move to a larger music market.

After moving to Athens in 2015, they combined forces with childhood friend Daniel Rubin (drums) and local heavyweights Doyle Williams (guitar) and Jay Rodgers (bass). In 2016, The Norm’s second EP “Normaltown” was recorded and produced in Nashville by former Cartel frontman, Will Pugh. Shortly after the record’s release, the band was nominated as a finalist at the Flagpole Athens Music Awards for Artist of the Year.

A proven track record of constant growth, resilience, and dedication keep The Norm moving ahead. They continue to embrace the Classic City as their home base, where they write, perform, and fuel their musical journey.
