Tobi Neumann

Tobi Neumann was a late bloomer, but he made up for lost time in no time. The Munich native had a career producing commercial jingles and movie soundtracks, but a fateful trip to Berlin's Love Parade at the age of 33 changed the course of his life forever; it was there, he says, that he "became infected by electronic music." From thereon Tobi immersed himself in the scene, and his list of accolades swiftly grew: producer of seminal 'electroclash' artists Chicks on Speed and Miss Kittin, world-renowned house and techno DJ, and chart-topping remixer. Tobi Neumann, a resident of Berlin for the past decade, and a resident DJ and artist for clubbing giant Cocoon, is indisputably one of the most highly recognised and highly respected personalities in electronic music.

1996 was the year that everything changed. After visiting Berlin's infamous techno street party, Tobi returned home with a renewed sense of purpose. Identifying a strong preference for the groove-laden sounds of Strictly Rhythm and Prescription Records, he began buying 12"s and learning to mix under the guidance of his friend Marcus Kanzler. As Tobi delved deeper and deeper into electronic music, he was further inspired by the style and musicality of pioneers like Ata and Andrew Weatherall, Luke Solomon and Heiko M/S/O, Tobias Thomas and Michael Mayer.

After two years devoted to honing his style, Tobi approached influential Munich club Ultraschall II in 1998 with a demo and a proposal to become their occasional warm-up DJ. The club declined, and instead offered Tobi a weekly residency. Tobi and Marcus Kanzler and christened the night Flokati House Club, named for the infamous fur-lined walls of the venue's chill out room. Flokati House Club became a Friday night fixture over the next four years, filling a sizable gap in the thriving German club market; while electroclash blossomed between the twin giants of techno, Berlin and Frankfurt, Flokati's defining sound was US house, and they launched with legendary Chicago producer Chez Damier as their first ever guest. While Flokati House Club proved an invaluable training ground for Tobi as a DJ, he says the most important lesson learned, in acting as the booker, promoter, and artist liaison, was "how to be a great host".

A second crucial influence on Tobi's carer has been his long association with the legendary Sven Väth. The pair met in Ibiza in the summer of 1999, and Sven invited Tobi to join him and a crew of friends in Thailand to celebrate the turn of the millennium. Tobi accepted the invite, and decided to pack some records as well, by chance. Fortuitously, he was asked to DJ at the last minute, during New Year's Eve dinner. "Before dessert," Tobi recalls, " they were already dancing on the table!" For Tobi, the set proved to be the most important that he ever played, and it amplified his career almost immediately. Soon after he returned to Europe the invites began pouring in: for his Cocoon debut in Ibiza, his still existing residency @ the Robert Johnson, to U60311, and to Anja Schneider's annual 72-hour Love Parade broadcast in Berlin. Increasingly aware of his isolation in Munich, Tobi moved to Berlin in 2001, and he joined the Cocoon agency the following year, and launched into an ever growing schedule of DJ bookings in Germany, Europe, and further afield.

Bill Patrick

In America, specifically NYC, Bill Patrick is a man of many accolades... Since his days as a DJ in legendary clubs such as The Limelight, Vinyl & Arc, he has charmed our hearts and moved our bodies. Not to mention being co-founder of the famed Robots parties and amusing us weekly as Robot Radio's alluring and witty host. Within the world of electronic music everyone has a tale about our friend Bill Patrick. Some funny, some sad, some tragic, most shady, but at the end of each story or any encounter with this demi god you're left wanting more.

Anthea

No longer a fledgling artist, Anthea is now firmly at the forefront of house and techno talents.

Once a behind-the-counter fixture of London's Flying Records and Phonica Records, Berlin transplant Anthea has been honing her tastemaker's ear for 15 years. After building a reputation as the most in-demand female DJ in London, Anthea now disseminates her distinct brand of funk-fuelled music to every corner of the globe as a world-renowned DJ, a producer for Cecille, Phonica, Freak n Chic and Desolat, as vocalist and collaborator alongside many of the scene's underground heroes, and as the A&R expert behind the sound of Brouqade Records.

Anthea's rise from the East London club scene to tours of the U.S., Europe and South America stems from her roof-raising sets at local institutions Fabric and T-Bar. After landing coveted podcasts for Ibiza Voice and Get The Curse, Anthea fielded invites from Watergate in Berlin, Harry Klein in Munich, Underground in Ibiza, and Gipsy in Moscow to name a select few. Anthea is a DJ first and foremost, and this shines through her infectious performances for leading clubs and festivals around the world.

Casting an eye over Anthea's productions, it's apparent that quality is valued over quantity; her releases and remixes have been carefully selected, and associations with Freak 'n Chic, Phonica, All Inn, One Records, Desolat and air london speak to her esteem amongst the scene's leading labels. Anthea's keen sense for mood, groove, and sleek sound aesthetics saw early efforts on Supplement Facts and Tuningspork, and further releases on Supernature and Bootleg. As a solo artist Anthea continues to develop a style that is very much her own: deep, tribal and bassline-driven.

Anthea's collaborations with close friend Alex Celler produced some studio chemistry, and two years on, their track "The Playmaker" still holds a place as one of Resident Advisor's Top 40 tracks of all time. Anthea also joined forces with Werner Niedermeier as JC Freaks, for a run of deep and classy EPs for Mojuba and Wandering. Her recent feature and vocal work on Guti's album Patio de Juegos, as well as her collaboration with label partner-in-crime Dana Ruh on "Track 3" are further testament to her creative collaborations.

As one third of Berlin's young and uprising Brouqade Records — alongside Dana Ruh and Ann M Cazal — Anthea's sharp A&R perspective has resulted in a string of fresh and exciting producers being brought to the fore as the artists of tomorrow, with label showcases high in demand.

While currently busy with a program of Brouquade events which promise a number of high-profile guests in the near future, further Anthea releases on Crazyjack, Mobilee, Desolat, Kina and of course Brouqade are all in the pipeline.

With an emphasis on creating, and not imitating, Anthea has laid more than solid foundations for herself in 2013, and beyond that there lies nothing but an inspired future.

Oshana

In an era where 'original' music is few and far between, few artists have been able to capture a truly indigenous sound. Luckily, for this US-born Producer and DJ, a relentless pursuit of instinctive rhythm has allowed her to produce a sound that is undeniably her own. With just a year of production under her belt, Oshana has composed a style that is both unique and complex, a product of expansive atmosphere, embryonic bass, and infectious percussion and rhythm.

Over the past year, Oshana has welcomed the release of two solo EP's on the highly acclaimed, Romanian label, LOK Records, a remix for Stab9 on the Moscow based label, BodyParts Records, and a powerful VA release on her home label of Brouqade. Not surprisingly, her productions have quickly gained the support of several major artists on the infamous Desolat music label, a:rpia:r, and Cadenza, to name a few. Fueled with a budding release schedule, she's developed an inspiring LIVE performance, gracing audiences in her home city of New York all the way to London and Berlin. With an impressive release schedule and tour dates to boast, there's no doubt that the future remains bright for this up and coming artist.

Looking ahead, this year promises to be a tremendous one for Oshana. With forthcoming dates scheduled in her home city of New York and Ibiza, an introductory vinyl EP, and a second various artist release, Oshana is rapidly defining herself as an artist "to watch." Armed with an intrinsic passion for making music, Oshana will continue to strive towards the forefront of innovative dance music. No matter where the path may lead her, you'll find her living by a simple credo, "Do what you love and love what you do, the rest comes naturally."

Taimur Agha

As co-founder, resident DJ, and primary creative director of Blk|Market Membership since its founding in 2006, Taimur Agha has been instrumental in building the rapidly growing New York dance community to where it now stands. A participant in the late '90s' and early 2000s famed club residencies in NYC, including Sasha & Digweed's legendary stint at Twilo and the equally illustrious era of Danny Tenaglia and Deep Dish at Vinyl, he weathered the club scene's dissolution post 9/11 and the retreat to the underground, and when Bill Patrick, Nick Ac, and Dennis Rodgers parted ways at the end with ROBOTS, they handed the torch to Taimur and his partner Fahad Haider to become the new leading lights of a re-established dance culture that would take the city into its next nightlife era.

Blk|market Membership's list of guests reads as a who's who of contemporary artists from the era, hosting debuts from the Wighnomy Brothers, Cassy, San Proper, Jamie Jones, Skudge, Rødhåd, Mike Dehnert, Apollonia, and many more, as well as the returns of legends like Laurent Garnier and Scan X's L.B.S. project, Carl Craig, Moritz von Oswald, Francesco Tristano, and a rare 2013 appearance by Dan Bell as DBX. Frequent regular guests include Margaret Dygas, Robag Wruhme, DJ Koze, and Innervisions' Ame & Dixon; Secretsundaze holds current a residency, and they have been honored to host past residencies for Craig Richards, Scuba's SUB:STANCE, Ostgut Ton, and Cocoon Heroes. Taimur's personal DJ resume includes appearances at world renown locales like fabric, Panorama Bar, Trouw, Club der Visionaere, Renate, Ibiza's Zoo Project and tiNI & the Gang parties, Vertigo, Montreal's legendary STEREO, Chicago's Smart Bar, Gipsy, the sadly-closed Arma 17 in Moscow, Paris' Sundae, Dubai's Analog Room, Romania's Sunwaves festival, and many more across the United States from Hawaii to New York and around the world from Tokyo to Bogota. He has mixed alongside many of the world's best-known DJs, including Craig Richards, Sasha, Digweed, Michael Mayer, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Lee Burridge, Adam Beyer, Ivan Smagghe, Onur Ozer, DJ Koze, Marco Carola, Ben Klock, Scuba, Luke Slater and friends like Three, Bill Patrick, Francis Harris, and Alexi Delano. Locally, he has presided over most of New York's most noted night spots, past and present, including a personal invitation to play at Danny Tenaglia's loft, Output, TBA Brooklyn, LOVE, Wolf+Lamb's Marcy Hotel, and an uncountable number of temporary addresses. Taimur and Fahad also now hold a monthly residency at the Standard Hotel's prestigious Le Bain while continuing their underground activities.

As head buyer and head of distribution at Halcyon Records from 2008 until mid-2014, Taimur sustained New York's struggling dance scene through difficult times and helped set the tone for its resurgence. His community-oriented radio show The Bandwagon ran 116 episodes during his tenure at Halcyon and helped to bring together labels and promoters from around the city, with appearances from his own Blk|Market talent and showcases for The Bunker, ReSolute, L.I.E.S., Deconstruct Music, Underground Quality, The Corner, Plan B Recordings, Voodoo Down Records, and more with a list of talent that includes Rhadoo, Fred P, Adam X, tiNI, Aybee, the Martinez Brothers, DJ Qu, Joey Anderson, Anthony Parasole, Kyle Hall, Function, Christopher Rau, Thugfucker, Reade Truth, Recondite, DVS1, Radioactive Man, Boddika, Gerd Janson, Juan Atkins, A Made Up Sound, Mr.Ties, Raresh, and Elbee Bad, and many of those previously mentioned. His A&R vision for distribution led to agreements with Novel Sound, Deconstruct, The Corner, Strength Music, Inimeg, Sonic Groove, White Material, Scissor & Thread, LAG, Blank Slate, Dystopian, and more. On the strength of these accomplishments, Taimur at last devoted himself full-time to his own DJ career, to the management of his labels Higher Frequencies and BlkMarket Membership, and to his still-growing nightlife empire. With eight years of history and accolades for helping to revive one of the world's most important dance music centers, Taimur and Blk|Market Membership hold an esteemed position as architects of New York's contemporary scene as well as guiding lights for its future.
