In this quick tutorial, you'll learn how to make your own natural face mask with homemade cucumber water, rose water and chamomile essential oils. Homemade cucumber water is a simple way to add an extra boost of calming hydration and the anti-inflammatory properties of rose water and chamomile contribute to the overall soothing effects of this face mask.

Supplies

4 tablespoons homemade cucumber water (distilled water & cucumber slices)

2 tablespoons rose water hydrosol

3 tablespoons rhassoul clay

3 tablespoons kaolin clay

1/4 teaspoon Otiphen Plus preservative (optional)

3-5 drops chamomile essential oil (optional)

Mason jar

Mixing spoons

Mixing bowl

4-6 oz container

1. Make Cucumber Water

Step 1

Make homemade cucumber water by adding fresh cucumber slices to distilled water. Shake everything together and let it sit for at least an hour.

2. Combine

Step 1

Add the rhassoul and kaolin clays to a bowl.

Step 2

Add the cucumber water and rose water alternately and stir until you achieve a smooth mud consistency.

3. Add Essential Oils

Step 1

Add the chamomile essential oil.

Chamomile has a fresh, almost sweet aroma and is calming and soothing to the mind. Other relaxing essential oils are lavender, clary sage, geranium or cedarwood.

4. Add Preservative

Step 1

Add the preservative.

This step is optional. If you'd like to extend the shelf life of this mask, or give the finished product to others, you need to add a preservative. My preservative of choice is Otiphen Plus, but you may use another full spectrum preservative in its place.

5. Finish Up

Step 1

Mix everything together one final time, then scoop the mixture into jars.

Enjoy Your New Soothing Face Mask

You've just made a soothing, homemade natural face mask.

To use, spread a generous amount of mask onto clean skin and leave on for 10 minutes. Remove with warm water and follow with your favorite moisturizer. Your skin will feel refreshed and smooth.

You can use this treatment one to two times a week. If you've added the preservative, the shelf life is approximately two to three months. Unpreserved mask leftovers will keep for one to two weeks when sealed properly in an air-tight container and kept in a refrigerator between uses.
