*Junior Naturalists – North Bend; 9/1; 9:30am – 11:30am; Kids ages 4 to 8 and their parents are invited to come explore the Rattlesnake Lake natural area and search for signs of animals. Each child will take home a small memory journal. $5, parents free, pre-register.
*Bicycle Sundays – Seattle; 9/1; 10:00am; The four-mile stretch of Lake Washington Boulevard between Mount Baker Beach and Seward Park is closed to motorized traffic 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. several Sundays through September.
*Cast Off! Free Public Sailing – Seattle; 9/1; 2:00pm; Our Cast Off! program allows visitors the chance to sail in classic boats. Before and after your sail take a walk on the docks and discover the boats. Watch the volunteer crews rigging the boats. They’ll be happy to answer any question you might have, and you may even have a chance to help with the rigging! We sail rain or shine, but wind conditions may keep us at the dock. Reservations are taken day-of-sail only at the CWB front desk. This is a popular activity so please arrive early to reserve a spot, we open at 10 a.m. Rides are always at 2 p.m., and sometimes also at 3 p.m. FREE
Monday, September 2nd:

*Kids’ Discovery Hike – Forest Park – Portland; 8/31; 9:30am – 12:00pm; Explore Forest Park on a free guided hike led by Outdoor School instructors and designed for youngsters and their families and friends. Learn about native plants, wildlife, and the inspiring history of Portland’s Forest Park. Become a tree as it grows from seed to snag, count banana slugs along the trail and learn about the differences between native and invasive plants, without leaving the city. Go on scavenger hunts, tap into our collective creativity, and use all five senses to investigate the amazing ecological diversity of Forest Park. *Guided Nature Walks at Tryon Creek – Portland; 8/31; 10:00am-11:30am; Free guided nature hikes exploring the forest and stream ecosystems and natural history at Tryon Creek State Natural Area. *Ruckus in the Lobby at Artists Rep Theatre – Portland; 8/31; 10:30am – 11:15am; Traveling Lantern Theatre Company presents “Ruckus in the Lobby”. *Oregon Pacific Railroad Train Rides – Portland; 8/31 – 9/28 Saturdays; 12:00pm – 6:00pm; The Oregon Pacific Railroad is continuing to offer passenger train rides on Saturdays between Oaks Amusement Park and East Portland (near OMSI) and back. Round trip rides last approximately an hour and take guests along the Willamette River, through the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge. Cost: $5 round trip or $10 to ride in the cab of our locomotive, limited space available for locomotive cab rides. We’re the only full size passenger excursion train in the Portland area. It will feature dozens of food vendors, micro- entrepreneurs, artists and performers, youth activities, and a key note speech from Will Allen, founder and CEO of Growing Power, Inc. Will Allen is widely considered a leading authority on urban agriculture and food policy.
