*Kruckeberg Leprechaun Hunt – Seattle; 3/21 – 3/23; 10:00am – 5:00pm;  The Kruckeberg Botanic Garden is a magical place, just perfect for leprechauns and other enchanted creatures.  Visit them during open hours in March to join our leprechaun hunt. *World Water Day Celebration – Woodinville; 3/22; 10:00am – 1:00pm; Come celebrate World Water Day 2014 with IslandWood and King County at Brightwater Center! Discover how people across the globe use water to do everything from cook dinner to create electricity, and what those actions mean for the planet. We’ll have activities for all ages including art projects, outdoor exploration, and science experiments to help us learn more about the world of water! *Barnyard Bash – Seattle; 3/22; 1:00pm;  Barnyard Bash is a family-friendly event geared towards young children and their parents. *Nature Walk at Lake Hills Greenbelt – Bellevue; 3/22; 2:00pm; Explore Lake Hills Greenbelt with a park ranger. Learn the history of the park, tour community gardens, and learn about local wildlife. All ages. 2 p.m. Saturdays. $1 suggested donation per person.

*Mercer Slough Nature Walk – Bellevue; 3/22; 2:00pm-3:00pm; Meet a Mercer Slough park ranger at the visitor center for a free guided tour and learn about the fascinating flora, fauna and history of the Mercer Slough Nature Park. Please dress for weather. No registration is required. FREE.

Sunday, March 23rd:

*French Fest – Seattle; 3/23; 11:00am – 6:00pm; Annual celebration of French-speaking cultures features music, dance, demonstrations, food, games, kids’ activities and more.

*SpaceUp Teen – Seattle; 3/23; 12:00pm – 3:00pm; SpaceUp Teen is a workshop for teens 13-19 who are interested in participating in the 2014 SpaceUp Seattle on April 12-13 at the Museum. SpaceUp Teen is geared to youths who want to have engaging and meaningful conversations with space industry leaders. Teens are invited to participate in this free, half-day preparatory workshop to get the most during the SpaceUp Seattle “unconference” experience. Workshop topics include: the latest space developments; talking with local space experts; group discussion skills. Participants receive a free ticket to the Space Up Seattle on April 12-13. The workshop is free with lunch provided. Registration is limited.

Monday, March 24th:

*Teen Mindfulness Meditation Class – Seattle; 3/24; 6:30pm – 8:00pm; High school teens (and especially mature middle school teens) are invited to a FREE mindfulness meditation class, led by Krista Gemmell Harris, an experienced insight meditation practitioner, certified .b Teen Mindfulness Teacher, InterPlay leader, and dance educator. This class can help teens find a sense of calm, observe what’s happening around themselves and inside themselves, skillfully handle emotions and thoughts, and feel compassion and appreciation for themselves and others. *Tugboat Storytime – Seattle; 3/27; 11:00am – 12:00pm; Listen to stories about boats and the sea aboard the Arthur Foss, a 100-year-old tugboat. After stories, there is time to explore the boat. This is an indoor/outdoor activity; dress accordingly. Ages 2 to 5. Not intended for preschool groups.

*Weekly Storytime + Craft Activity at The Craft Factory – Portland; 3/21; 10:30am – 11:00am; Now you can listen to picture books while crafting the morning away at The Craft Factory’s weekly Friday morning storytime. Picturebooks are on loan from Annie Bloom’s Books right next door. Storytime begins at 10:30 a.m. and is free for everyone to attend.  We offer a $5 storytime craft special for your choice of 2 ornamental craft bases that we can turn into magnets or ornaments for you once you’ve finished decorating them.  Regular craft bases remain at their everyday $12 price.

*Story Time with Olive and Dingo at Pie Spot – Portland; 3/21; 3:00pm – 4:00pm;Fun for all. Full of comedy, songs, stories, balloons and laughter. Balloons twisting  at the end of the show.  Cost:  $5 per child for balloons and entertainment

*Family Friday Flicks at the Hillsboro Main Library – Hillsboro; 3/21; 6:30pm – 8:00pm; Friday Family Flicks features family friendly movies on the third Friday of most months at the Main Library! Popcorn provided, courtesy of Regal Cinema’s Movies on TV Highway. Recommended for ages 4+ and adult family members. Children must be supervised by adult family members. Seating is limited to 100 people.

*MAC’s Studio Theatre: ‘Spotlight Parade!’ – Portland; 3/21 & 3/22; 7:00pm – 8:00pm; Soup lines, prohibition and gangsters.  It’s the Great Depression and the entire country’s in turmoil. There’s only one thing to do.  Put on a ridiculously elaborate show!  Students aged 9 – 16 perform this original play written and directed by Timothy Scarrott with design by Dawn Panttaja.  Free and Open to the public.

*Family Friday Concerts at The Community Music Center – Portland; 3/21; 7:15pm – 10:15pm; Irish traditional fiddler Bronnie Griffin will perform along with Preston Howard on the pipes and Maldon Meehan, Irish percussive dancer. Children will be invited to the stage to participate in Irish percussive dancing. Volunteer-run series of once-a-month low-cost concerts for children & families returns. All Family Friday concerts start at 7:15 pm and run about an hour (no intermission). Admission is free, with suggested donation of $5 per person or $15 for a family. Doors open at about 6:45 pm.

Saturday, March 22nd :

*World Water Day: Walk for Water – Vancouver; 3/22; 10:00am; Observe World Water Day with a ‘Walk for Water’ at the Water Resources Education Center. With this family friendly walk, the Water Center hopes to raise awareness of the need for drinkable water in other parts of the world. How would your family manage if you had to carry water for your home use? *Guided Nature Walks at Tryon Creek – Portland; 3/22; 10:00am-11:30am; Free guided nature hikes exploring the forest and stream ecosystems and natural history at Tryon Creek State Natural Area.  Topics will vary from week to week but will be appropriate for all ages.  Parents must accompany kids on all hikes.

*SOLVE Spring Beach Cleanup; 3/22; 10:00am – 1:00pm;  Each year, thousands of volunteers clean the entire Oregon coastline of litter to protect people, wildlife and coastal economies. Go to you favorite beach on March 22nd and help celebrate 28 years of SOLVE Spring cleanup events!  This is a family friendly event and SOLVE invites Oregonians of all ages to participate. General registration will open January 24, 2014.

*Free Family Story Time at the End of the Oregon Trail – Oregon City; 3/22; 10:30am – 11:00am; Bring the whole family down to the official End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive & Visitor Information Center for a free story time featuring Oregon City Public Library’s Missy Lipe. Enjoy the story and continue your visit with a self-guided tour of the Interpretive Center’s new exhibits, hands-on activities and “Bound for Oregon” film. Enjoy a sack lunch in the Picnic Shelter and shop at our Country Store and lounge. Admission to the Interpretive Center will be discounted March 22 to $5. Children 3 and under and active military with ID are free.

*Kids’ Storytime with Hannah Viano at Powell’s – Portland; 3/22; 11:00am – 12:00pm; Artist Hannah Viano will be joining us to read from her new book, “S Is for Salmon: A Pacific Northwest Alphabet”. Based on Viano’s regionally themed paper-cut art, this lovely children’s book sheds a new light on the ABCs that will appeal to young and old alike. Join us for this special Northwest storytime.

*Oregon Pacific Railroad Train Rides at Rail Heritage Center – Portland; 3/22; 1:00pm – 5:00pm; The Oregon Pacific Railroad is offering round trip diesel locomotive powered passenger train rides to the public from the Oregon Rail Heritage Center, located near OMSI. Passenger trains will operate on Saturdays and depart the Oregon Rail Heritage Center at 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm and 4:30 pm. Rides last approximately 45 minutes. Locomotive cab rides are available for an additional fee.  Cost:  $5

Sunday, March 23rd:

*Spring Whale Watch Week – Oregon Coast; 3/23 – 3/29; 10:00am – 1:00pm; People come from all over to learn about the gray whales that migrate past the Oregon coast each year. The Whale Watching Spoken Here program places volunteers at 24 great whale watching sites during watch weeks so they can help others spot the whales.

*Ruckus in the Lobby at Artist Rep – Portland; 3/23 – 5/25 Sundays; 11:00am – 11:45am; Traveling Lantern Theatre two-person family-friendly play every Sunday morning at 11 am. Includes a Q&A with the cast afterward. Tickets are only $5 for all who attend over 5 years old, and can be purchased at the door or at www.artistsrep.org.  Cost:  $5

*S is for Salmon Reading with Hannah Viano at Green Bean Books – Portland; 3/23; 1:00pm – 1:30pm; Seattleite Hannah Viano celebrates the Pacific Northwest with her debut picture book S is for Salmon. She uses an intricate  cut-paper technique to illustrate the plant and animal life. This event takes place Sunday, March 23rd, 1pm.

*The David Show! at Rain City Coffee – Portland; 3/23 – 4/20 Sundays; 1:00pm – 2:00pm; Musical variety show for children of all ages and their families, now on Sundays.  Free, donations appreciated.

*The Sesquicentennial Library Celebration Puppet Show at Hollywood Library – Portland; 2:00pm – 2:45pm; Multnomah County Library is celebrating 150 years of library service. MCL is the oldest public library west of the Mississippi! Join Librarian Gabby as she transports herself back in time to unfold the stories of the library’s? humble beginnings?; then t?ravel?s? back again to now, ?150-years ?later ?of amazing dedication to get information out to the public free for you and me. Singing, dancing and laughter are included in this original Penny’s Puppet Show.

Monday, March 24th :

*Tangled Threads at Warehouse Cafe – Portland; 3/24; 10:00am – 11:00am; Join The Tangled Threads for music and merriment. They delight and amaze audiences everywhere through an ever-evolving repertoire that includes music, dance, stilt walking, juggling, clowning, Heely skating, and much more! $5 admission.  Please bring exact change or a check for the artist.

*Tallulah’s Daddy at Rain City Coffee – Portland; 3/24; 10:00am – 11:00am; Come sing, dance and play with Tallulah’s Daddy as he plays guitar, bass and cajon. Tallulah’s Daddy plays fun, energetic acoustic music for your little ones, and you can grab some coffee, tea or a snack. We start with musical storytime, then sing songs, and we leave a little bit of extra time for the kids to get their hands on some percussion instruments!  No cover charge, donations appreciated.

*African World Music at Rain City Coffee – Portland; 3/26; 10:00am – 11:00am;  Neindow and friends bring the rhythms of Africa to Rain City Coffee most Wednesdays. Kids of all ages and adults are welcome to join this fun, upbeat music hour of drumming, singing and jamming. Bring your children and come and dance and play along with us and try some of our handmade African kids drums while playing along to the African rhythms.  Neindow brings traditional Ghanain percussion instruments + rattles and everyone is welcome to bring their drums.  Cost:  $5/family

*Honeybee Hikes at Leach Botanical Gardens – Portland; 3/26; 10:00am – 11:00am; Weekly nature-related activities for young children and their adult caregivers. Discover the secrets of the Garden and its critters through stories and outdoor explorations. Dress for the weather and wear good walking shoes for unpaved, uneven walkways that could be muddy. Strollers limit where we can explore, so carriers are ideal for little ones. No pre-registration required. Best for ages 1-6.  Cost:  $2 per child

*Tadpole Tales at Whitaker Ponds – Portland; 3/26; 10:00am – 11:00am;  Children aged 3-5 with their parents are invited to a short story and guided nature walk. Watch birds fly overhead, search for hidden animal homes, and learn about local trees and flowers. Themes change each week and locations change each month.  This program runs each Wednesday March-May.  Event runs rain or shine.  Families are welcome to bring a snack.  Learn more and register for this event here.   Cost:  $3/child

*Tallulah’s Daddy at Warehouse Cafe – Portland; 3/27; 10:00am – 11:00am; Come sing, dance and stomp like a dinosaur as Tallulah’s Daddy sings and plays his guitar, bass and cajon. Tallulah’s Daddy plays fun, energetic and interactive acoustic music for kids, and brings lots of percussion goodies for kids of all ages to play with!  Cost:  donation

*Story Time with Olive and Dingo at Cafe au Play - Portland; 3/27; 10:30am – 11:30am Full of comedy, songs, stories, balloons and laughter. Balloons twisting and fellowship is at the end of the show.Cost:  $5 per child for balloons and entertainment

*Red Yarn at Ledding Library – Milwaukie; 3/27; 2:00pm; Join us for The Deep Woods, a musical puppet show full of little critters and American folksongs.  Fun for ages 4 & up sponsored by the Friends of Ledding Library.
