*Story Time at Lewis Creek – Bellevue; 2/28; 11:00am – 12:00pm; Look, listen and create during an hour of stories and crafts with a park ranger on the first Friday of every month.All children must be accompanied by a registered adult. *FreeTête-à-têter At Frye Museum – Seattle; 2/28; 11:00am to 5:00pm; Frye Museum entrance and parking are free all the time. You can check their events page here, for a list of weekly events.

*Pay-What-You-Can at Seattle Symphony’s “Soundbridge”- Seattle, Beneroya Hall; 2/28; 12:00pm to 4:00pm; Soundbridge is a music discovery center and Friday afternoons are “Pay What You Can” entrance- suggested donation $5 – $15 per family; Ages 2-5, 30 minute interactive storytelling with song & rhythm, dance & musical instruments at 1:45pm.

*Family Movies: ‘The Muppets’ – Seattle; 2/28; 3:30pm – 5:30pm; Catch up on the Muppets’ shenanigans before the new movie comes out! Bring your own pillows, we’ll supply the popcorn. Today we’ll be showing “The Muppets,” a 2011 live-action film. For children and teens.

*Metamorphoses – Seattle; 2/28 – 3/8 Fri & Sat, 7pm or 3/2, 2pm; Seattle Public Theater’s (SPT) Youth Program presents Mary Zimmerman’s humorous and insightful modern take on the classical mythology of Ovid, Metamorphoses. 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 28 through March 8, and 2 p.m. March 2. FREE, donations are accepted.

Saturday, March 1st:

*Kruckeberg Leprechaun Hunt – Seattle; 3/1 & 3/2; 10:00am – 5:00pm;  The Kruckeberg Botanic Garden is a magical place, just perfect for leprechauns and other enchanted creatures.  Visit them during open hours in March to join our leprechaun hunt. Pick up their leprechaun scavenger hunt at the garden, or download it from our website.

*Rock & Gem Show – Issaquah; 3/1 & 3/2; 10:00am; East KingCo Club presents their annual show with demonstrations, displays, vendors, crafts, activities, prizes and more. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 1, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 2.

*Pied Piper Kids’ Entertainment Series – Seattle; 3/1; 10:30am; See a show from Puppets Please, featuring colorful, interactive animal puppets. $3 suggested donation.

*Ridge Romp: The Purple House – Seattle; 3/1; 10:30am;  Bring the whole family for a tour through several decades of great music, from The Beatles to MGMT and a bunch in between!  The Purple House is a community band featuring parents, kids and community members.  Doors open 10 a.m. $5, babes in arms free, limited seating.

*Science Saturday – Tacoma; 3/1; 10:30am – 12:00pm; Kids in grades 1-3 will discover how minerals form, combine and react to one another. They’ll enjoy hands-on investigation and discovery including sifting for gemstones, probing for fossils and radiating a rock. Kids in grades 4-6 will learn about rockets, and will design, build and launch a water rocket during the event. Space is limited, pre-registration required.

*Free Family Days At Seattle Asian Art Museum  – Seattle; 3/1; 11:00am to 2:00pm; Admission to the Seattle Asian Art Museum is free on the first Saturday of each month for families.

*Hootenanny! Sing-Along Tribute to Pete Seeger – Seattle; 3/1; 12:00pm; Join them in celebrating the life and influence of folk icon Pete Seeger in an all-ages sing-along featuring local children’s musicians Johnny Bregar, Mike Derzon, Drew Holloway (of Recess Monkey), Charlie Hope, and others. Seeger dedicated much of his life to cleaning up the Hudson River watershed; all proceeds from the event will benefit EarthCorps, which works to protect our own Puget Sound. $5, free ages 12 and younger.

*Mother Goose Story Time – Seattle; 3/1; 1:00pm – 2:00pm; Bring your kids ages 6 and younger to meet master storyteller Mother Goose for myths and legends, sing-alongs, scavenger hunts and other activities highlighting birds and animals of Seward Park and legends of the Northwest. Guest appearances by Talking Tree, Sasquatch, Owl, Eagle and Bear.

*Nature Walk at Lake Hills Greenbelt – Bellevue;  3/1; 2:00pm; Explore Lake Hills Greenbelt with a park ranger. Learn the history of the park, tour community gardens, and learn about local wildlife. All ages. 2 p.m. Saturdays. $1 suggested donation per person.

*Author Appearance: Marie Harris – Seattle; 3/1; 2:00pm; Meet Marie Harris, author of “The Girl Who Heard Colors” (recommended for ages 8 to 12).  The story follows Jillian, a girl with synesthesia who feels different than her peers, and is teased by them. It all changes when her music teacher helps her understand what a gift it is.

*Mercer Slough Nature Walk – Bellevue; 3/1; 2:00pm-3:00pm; Meet a Mercer Slough park ranger at the visitor center for a free guided tour and learn about the fascinating flora, fauna and history of the Mercer Slough Nature Park. Please dress for weather. No registration is required. FREE.

*Bellevue Art Museums Get Crafty Saturday – Bellevue; 3/1; 1:00pm to 3:00pm; Free craft time for kids each Saturday. $2 material fee or free with admission.

Sunday, March 2nd:

*Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser – Seattle; 3/1; 8:30am – 11:30am; Enjoy breakfast – plus activities and crafts for kids – at this fundraiser that supports youth scholarships throughout the year. $5, free ages 3 and younger.

Monday, March 3rd:

*Masterpiece Monday - Bellevue; 3/3; 10:00am – 10:45am; Create a special art project each week to take home during this fun drop-in class. Activities vary from painting to collage and mosaics. Ages 3 and older. Most Mondays 10 to 10:45 a.m. $2 supply fee per class. Please check website for current schedules. No registration required.

Tuesday, March 4th:

*Seattle Parks & Recreation Camp Fair – Seattle; 3/4; 5:00pm – 8:00pm;  Bring the entire family and discover the broad range of activities planned for this summer. You’ll find camps for preschoolers to teens with themes ranging from team sports, theatre, science/engineering, reading, nature, outdoor skills, fishing and environmental restoration.  This is an occasion to talk with camp directors and ask questions about the summer programs. Many camps fill up quickly, so this is an opportunity to get a head start.

Wednesday, March 5th:

*Tales & Trails for Little Tykes – Seattle; 3/5; 10:00am-11:00am; Introduce your toddler to nature with story time, songs, and fun activities inside, followed by exploration along the trails of Seward Park. Walks are easy and less than one mile in length. Pre-register, space is limited. Recommended for ages birth to 3. Cost: $2 per person.

*FREE Drop-In Playgroup – Seattle; 3/5 & 3/6; 10:00am – 12:00pm; Join kids ages birth to 5 and their parents/caregivers every Wednesday and Friday for a drop-in playgroup! Have fun playing with other families, reading, and singing. First-time families will be asked to fill out a registration form.  FREE

*Students Get Free Admission To The Bellevue Art Museum – Bellevue; 3/5; 1:00pm to 5:00pm; Students of all ages can explore the Bellevue Arts Museum after school FREE with printable coupon.

*S.T.Y.L.E. Performance by Aki Kurose Students – Seattle; 3/5; 5:30pm; The Bushwick Book Club Seattle has teamed up with students at Aki Kurose Middle School for S.T.Y.L.E. (Songwriting Through Youth Literature Education). They’ll present original music inspired by Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

Join Radio Disney Seattle at Westfield Southcenter to celebrate Muppet Mania! *Late Play Date – Auburn; 3/6; 6:00pm – 8:00pm; This monthly FREE program is perfect for kids age 3 to 12. Families will enjoy free admission to the museum as well as themed craft stations and activities, no registration required. Beginning in February, Late Play Dates occur every first Thursday of the month.

*B-Town Beat Music and Art Walk – Burien; 3/6; 6:00pm – 9:00pm;  The B-Town Beat is an independent not-for-profit organization formed in early 2013 with the mission of supporting the development of arts, economic stability and community in Burien. The organization accomplishes this primarily through its monthly Music & Art Walk and its second program, the Art Alley Project.  The free event is held from 6 to 9 p.m. every first Thursday of the month in downtown Burien.

*Little Kids Ride at the Lumberyard – Portland; 2/28, 3/3 – 3/5; 9:00am – 12:00pm;  The Lumberyard, Portland’s indoor bike park, includes jump lines, pump tracks, skill sections and technical trail riding for beginners to experts.  Weekday mornings that major Portland area metropolitan schools are in session kids 6 and under ride for just $6 from 9 am until noon. If they want to continue riding after noon it’s just another $6 until 2 pm.

*Ladybug Nature Walks – Portland; 2/28; 10:00am; Explore nature in Portland parks with trained naturalists! Mid-February through early November, rain or shine. $4 per preschooler, no charge for adults. For more info, call 503-823-3601503-823-3601.For ages 2-5 with grown-up.

*Guided Nature Walks at Tryon Creek – Portland; 3/1; 10:00am-11:30am; Free guided nature hikes exploring the forest and stream ecosystems and natural history at Tryon Creek State Natural Area.  Topics will vary from week to week but will be appropriate for all ages.  Parents must accompany kids on all hikes.

* Kids Saturday Morning Skate Session At Oaks Park – Portland; 3/1; 10:30am – 12:00pm; For $6 children 10 and under can skate (skates included). Parents free with paid child admission.

*Plant a Sack of Potatoes at Al’s Garden Center – Woodburn; 3/1; 11:00am; You can grow potatoes, even if you only have a small space. By planting potatoes in a bag, you can easily grow and harvest them. Find the eyes on a potato and learn more about this unique root vegetable. You will love their flavor at harvest time. Reservations required.  Cost:  $5

*Stayin’ Alive: Winter Survival Shelters at Oxbow Park – Portland; 3/1; 11:00am – 2:00pm;  In this family-oriented class, learn the basics of building a winter survival shelter that can keep you safe and warm without the aid of a sleeping bag or a fire. After this introduction, younger participants will have free time by the river (supervised by a parent/guardian) where they can build forts for fun. This class takes place outdoors at Oxbow Regional Park and is led by Metro naturalist Dan Daly. $5 per vehicle ($7 per bus) park entry fee. Registration and payment of $6 per person, $11 per family required in advance.

*African Marimba Concert – Portland; 3/1; 12:00pm – 4:30pm; Put on your dancing shoes and come hear seven groups (including two children’s groups) play high-energy music from Zimbabwe and South Africa.

*Oregon Pacific Railroad Train Rides at Rail Heritage Center – Portland; 3/1; 1:00pm – 5:00pm; The Oregon Pacific Railroad is offering round trip diesel locomotive powered passenger train rides to the public from the Oregon Rail Heritage Center, located near OMSI. Passenger trains will operate on Saturdays and depart the Oregon Rail Heritage Center at 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm and 4:30 pm. Rides last approximately 45 minutes. Locomotive cab rides are available for an additional fee.  Cost:  $5

* Free Family Swim At Marshall Community Center - Vancouver; 3/1; 4:45pm – 6:30pm; Bauman Chiropractic is sponsoring free family swims at Marshall Pool Saturday evenings.

*Owl Fest at Tryon Creek – Portland; 3/1; 5:00pm – 7:00pm; If you love owls, come out to Tryon Creek State Natural Area for an evening of Owl Celebration! Activities for the entire family including owl pellet dissection, owl crafts, owl presentations, guided hikes, snacks by Clif Bar, and close-up encounters with the Audubon Education Owls- Hazel and Julio! Parking is limited, please consider carpooling.  Registration is required for guided hike only.

*One Night in Frogtown – Free Concert & Audition Event - Lake Oswego; 3/1; 6:00pm – 8:00pm;  This don’t-miss, free concert and audition event will feature story narration and songs from the locally-written and popular book “One Night in Frogtown” celebrating diversity through music by our Primary and Intermediate Boys.  Event is open to the public and families with young boys, ages 5 to 12, who love to sing are encouraged to attend.  An audition opportunity to sing with Portland Boychoir and meet Dr. David York will take place immediately after the concert.

Sunday March 2nd:

*$2 Days at OMSI – Portland; 3/2; 9:30am – 7:00pm; Explore the museum for $2 on the first Sunday of each month.

*Thing 1 & Thing 2 Wigs Craft Station at Green Bean Books – Portland; 3/2; 12:00pm – 4:00pm; Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday with our fun craft for kids. They can make their own Thing 1 & Thing 2 Wig on Sunday, March 2nd. Just stop by between 12-4PM. And, don’t miss our special Seuss Story Time on Tuesday, March 4th, 11am.

*Family tour of the Portland Art Museum – Portland; 3/2; 12:30pm – 1:30pm; Take a tour of the art museum with a docent skilled at engaging visitors of all ages.  Tour is free with admission and free for kids 17 and under.  Cost:  $15 (adults), Free (kids under 18).

*The David Show! at Rain City Coffee – Portland; 3/2; 1:00pm – 2:00pm; Musical variety show for children of all ages and their families.

*Music Class with Johnny Keener at The Treehouse – Portland; 3/3; 10:00am; He will craft music for kids that is exciting and fun, as well as artistically satisfying.  He is committed to inviting kids into the musical process providing them with a musical experience they won’t forget!  Best for ages 0-6.  Cost:  $5 per child

*Storytime with Olive Rootbeer and Dingo at Laurelhurst Cafe – Portland; 3/3; 10:00am – 11:00am; Join Olive and Dingo for stories, balloons and songs at Laurelhurst Cafe, a quaint restaurant serving organic local high quality meals.  (Gluten free and kids menu options too.).  $5 suggested donation.

*Tallulah’s Daddy at Rain City Coffee – Portland; 3/3; 10:00am – 11:00am; Come sing, dance and play with Tallulah’s Daddy as he plays guitar, bass and cajon. Tallulah’s Daddy plays fun, energetic acoustic music for your little ones, and you can grab some coffee, tea or a snack. We start with musical storytime, then sing songs, and we leave a little bit of extra time for the kids to get their hands on some percussion instruments!  No cover charge, donations appreciated.

*Washington County Museum Free Admission – Portland; 3/3; 10:00am – 4:30pm; Admission is free to this museum every Monday.

*The David Show at Cafe au Play – Portland; 3/1; 10:30am – 11:30am; Fun and interactive musical variety show performed by David Rutiezer. Fun for all ages! Cost:  $3 suggested donation

*Mondays On The Mall – Portland – Downtown Central Transit Mall;  Various Times; Free events all day including Wii play, caricatures, the original photo booth and entertainment. 

*Amazing Race Family At West Linn Library - West Linn; 3/3; 6:30pm – 7:30pm; Families will work together to solve puzzles and defeat challenges to win the race! All ages are invited to join. Teams must have a minimum of two people.

Tuesday, March 4th:

**Story Time with Olive and Dingo at Warehouse Cafe – Portland; 3/4; 10:00am – 11:00am; Full of comedy, songs, stories, balloons and laughter. Olive and Dingo are bright and cheery, cartoony characters who love inspiring kids and families to be silly, to love improv and creative performance and to be the best audience members Portland has ever known! Balloons twisting and fellowship is at the end of the show.  Cost: $5 per child for balloons and entertainment

*Puddle Stompers at Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge – Sherwood; 3/4; 10:00am – 11:30am;  This preschool environmental education program invites children and their families to spend the morning learning about the natural wonders of the Refuge. Volunteer Naturalists will lead nature crafts, share stories, and guide hikes on Refuge trails. The Refuge supplies ‘froggy’ raingear for the kids, but adults should bring their own.  This event is free & open to the public, but registration is required. *Preschool Play and Skate at Oaks Park – Portland; 3/4; 10:00am – 11:30am; This special roller skating session is just for your littlest skaters. Children 6 and under enjoy games, songs, blals, a 15 minute group lesson, snack time, and more.  Conventional skate rental included.  Shoes and strollers welcome on the skating floor.  Adults free with paid children’s admission.  Cost:  $6.00

*Tuesday Art Time at the Treehouse Children’s Boutique – Portland; 3/4; 10:15am – 11:15am; Every Tuesday of the 2012-2013 school year, the Treehouse Children’s Boutique opens its doors and expands into the auditorium of the Sound Roots School of Music for art, craft, science, and play! Suitable for ages 1 to 6  with adult.  *Please register in advance! *Micah and Me Singalong at Rain City Coffee – Portland; 3/4; 3:00pm; Micah and Me Kids Singalong at Rain City Coffee Tuesdays at 3pm. We will be singing the favorites including Dan Zanes’ new one, “Let’s Dance.”

*Little Ears Free Concerts for Children Downtown PDX – Portland; 3/4; 3:30pm; Symphony Storytimes presented by Oregon Symphony. Join Oregon Symphony cellist, Ken Finch, with City of Milwaukie Youth Librarian Jana Hoffman, as they introduce the beautiful music of his cello, paired with beloved picture boos chosen just for this audience. This hour-long presentation is best enjoyed by preschoolers 2-5 years old.

Wednesday, March 5th:

*Visit the Historic Belmont Firehouse – Portland; 3/5; 9:00am – 3:00pm; Drop in any Wednesday to see the exhibits and learn about safety for you and your family.  No appointment is necessary.

*Honeybee Hikes at Leach Botanical Gardens – Portland; 3/5; 10:00am – 11:00am; Weekly nature-related activities for young children and their adult caregivers. Discover the secrets of the Garden and its critters through stories and outdoor explorations. Dress for the weather and wear good walking shoes for unpaved, uneven walkways that could be muddy. Strollers limit where we can explore, so carriers are ideal for little ones. No pre-registration required. Best for ages 1-6.  Cost:  $2 per child

*Mo Phillips Party Time! at Milagros Boutique – Portland; 3/5; 10:30am – 11:30am; Come hang out, sing-along, dance about, and generally carry on in a rock n roll kinda way!  $5 suggested donation

*Mommy Matinee at the St Johns Theater- Portland; 3/5; 1:00pm – 2:30pm;  Parents, nannies, grandparents and caregivers, bring your babies to these films, from G to R ratings. *Tallulah’s Daddy at Warehouse Cafe – Portland; 3/6; 10:00am – 11:00am; Come sing, dance and stomp like a dinosaur as Tallulah’s Daddy sings and plays his guitar, bass and cajon. Tallulah’s Daddy plays fun, energetic and interactive acoustic music for kids, and brings lots of percussion goodies for kids of all ages to play with!  Cost:  donation

*Knee-high Naturalists at Nature Park Center – Beaverton; 3/6; 10:00am – 11:00am; Join them on these nature adventures as they explore the wildlife in our local parks.  They’ll search for clues that animals have left behind and get up close looks at treasures from our naturalist’s backpack that may include skulls, pelts, pellets or even scat!  Only one registration per family is necessary.  Suitable for ages 2-5 years. Advanced registration required; call 503/629-6350.  $8 per session, in-district.  An assessment fee will be charged for out-of-district patrons.

*St Johns Swapnplay Playspace Open Play - Portland; 3/6; 10:00am – 12:00pm; Free to all! This is a chance to come learn, play and grow. Free toddler/preschooler art class from 10-11. First come first served as we run out of materials after 15 students. Open Play is an open time for non-members to enjoy the space.
