Saturday, January 18th:

*Tales & Trails for Little Tykes – Seattle; 1/18 & 1/22; 10:00am – 11:00am; Introduce your toddler to nature with story time, songs, and fun activities inside, followed by exploration along the trails of Seward Park. Walks are easy and less than one mile in length. Pre-register, space is limited. Recommended for ages birth to 3. Cost: $2 per person.

*Family Nature Walk – Tacoma; 1/18; 10:00am – 11:00am; Explore Tacoma parks during these seasonal naturalist-led walks. Discover the amazing plants and animals that live in these parks and how they adapt to the different seasons. Not recommended for wheelchairs, strollers or children younger than age 3.

*Wet Walk in the Woods – Woodinville; 1/18; 10:00am – 12:00pm; Dress warm, wear your rubber boots, and join us at Brightwater for an exploration of the woods in winter. Walk our trails with one of our staff naturalists and discover how alive the world is in the coldest months. Even if the weather is frightful, it doesn’t mean we can’t have fun outside! We’ll enjoy warm beverages and a story by the fire to warm up when we’re done. Perfect for families with kids ages 3 and older. *Free Wing Luke Museum Entrance – Seattle; 1/18;10:00am – 8:00pm; The Wing Luke Museum offers free admission on the third Saturday of each month, for family day.

*Heron Habitat Helpers Open House – Seattle; 1/18; 11:00am – 2:00pm; Learn more about the great blue heron, the official bird of Seattle, with interactive booths, crafts, family activities and more.

*Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth March – Seattle; 1/18; 1:00pm; Youth from around the city are invited to march from Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park in Seattle to Garfield Community Center. Afterward, enjoy refreshments and a talent show. The first 400 participants to register online will receive a youth-designed T-shirt or hooded sweatshirt.

*Green Hour - Bellevue; 1/18; 1:00pm – 2:00pm; Join us the third Saturday of every month for a Green Hour at Lewis Creek Park! Observe and explore the park during an hour of unstructured play and interaction with the natural world. Each month, creative, science-based ideas will have children and parents deepening their knowledge and love of nature together! Registration recommended.  FREE.

*Bellevue Art Museums Get Crafty Saturday – Bellevue; 1/18; 1:00pm – 3:00pm; Free craft time for kids each Saturday. $2 material fee or free with admission.

*Family Day: Cultures of the World – Bellevue; 1/19; 12:00pm – 4:00pm; Come celebrate the new year at Bellevue Arts Museum with art activities, demonstrations, and performances featuring some amazing cultures from around the world.

*Family Movies Film Screening: ‘Turbo’ – Seattle; 1/19; 1:00pm – 3:30pm; Join us for a movie over Mid-Winter Break! Bring your own pillows, we’ll supply the popcorn. Today we’ll be showing “Turbo,” a 2013 animated film. For children and teens.

*Seattle Family Dance – Seattle; 1/19; 3:00pm – 5:00pm; Dance with your children to live folk music. Simple dances for ages 9 and younger and their families. No partner or experience necessary. $6, $18 per family.

Monday, January 20th:

*Day of Caring – Tacoma; 1/20; 9:00am – 12:00pm; Volunteers are invited to help spruce up Point Defiance Park in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

*Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration – Seattle; 1/20: 9:30am; Come to Garfield High School for workshops (9:30 to 11 a.m.), a rally (11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and a march to the Federal Building on Second Avenue downtown (12:30 p.m.), after which buses will transport participants back to the school for a free lunch.

*Masterpiece Monday - Bellevue; 1/20; 10:00am – 10:45am; Create a special art project each week to take home during this fun drop-in class. Activities vary from painting to collage and mosaics. Ages 3 and older. Most Mondays 10 to 10:45 a.m. $2 supply fee per class. Please check website for current schedules. No registration required.

*Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration – Tacoma; 1/20; 11:00am – 1:00pm; Hear from keynote speaker Eric Boles, a Tacoma resident and former player with the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers, plus enjoy live performances and a ceremony recognizing the Human Rights Champion Award recipients. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., doors open 10 a.m. Event is FREE, but please bring non-perishable food donations. *Martin Luther King Jr. Day Health Fair – Bellevue; 1/20; 11:00am – 3:00pm; Healthy ideas, music and fun in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Wednesday, January 22nd:

Friday, January 17th :

*Little Kids Ride at the Lumberyard – Portland; 1/16 – 1/17, 1/20 – 1/22; 9:00am – 12:00pm;  The Lumberyard, Portland’s indoor bike park, includes jump lines, pump tracks, skill sections and technical trail riding for beginners to experts.  Weekday mornings that major Portland area metropolitan schools are in session kids 6 and under ride for just $6 from 9 am until noon. If they want to continue riding after noon it’s just another $6 until 2 pm.

*14,267 Used Books Book Sale – Vancouver; 1/17 – 1/19; 9:00am – 6:00pm; Thousands of books of all kinds for sale!  Children’s books, young adult, fiction, non-fiction, you name it…we’ve got it!  Can’t beat the price at $.50 or $1.00 per book!  Proceeds benefit the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Summer Reading Program and the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation.

*Red Yarn at Warehouse Cafe – Portland; 1/17; 10:00am – 10:45am;  Weaving together energetic live music, puppetry and storytelling, Red Yarn teaches positive values while reviving American folklore for a younger generation.  Join Red Yarn & his lovable critters every Friday morning at Warehouse Cafe. *Tallulah’s Daddy at Cafe au Play – Portland; 1/17; 10:00am – 11:00am; Come sing, dance and stomp like a dinosaur as Tallulah’s Daddy sings and plays his guitar, bass and cajon. *Mountain Park Rec Center Family Concert Series Debut: The Portland Opera – Lake Oswego; 1/17; 7:00pm – 8:00pm; This concert marks the launch of a monthly all-ages concert series at Mountain Park Rec Center. The debut even features a 50-minute, kid-friendly performance of “La Boheme” by members of the Portland Opera.  With Portland Opera-to-Go, English adaptations of famous operas are fully staged, with sets, costumes and piano accompaniment. The Mountain Park Family Concert series is produced by award-winning performer Aaron Nigel Smith.  Cost:  $5

Saturday, January 18th :

*Guided Nature Walks at Tryon Creek – Portland; 1/18; 10:00am – 11:30am; Free guided nature hikes exploring the forest and stream ecosystems and natural history at Tryon Creek State Natural Area.  Topics will vary from week to week but will be appropriate for all ages.  Parents must accompany kids on all hikes.

*Tet Festival at Oregon Convention Center – Portland; 1/18; 10:00am – 5:00pm; Oregon’s Vietnamese Community celebrates the Year of the Horse. Lion dancing, lucky money, martial arts, cultural performances, art contest, games and more.  Cost:  $4, free ages 0-5

* Kids Saturday Morning Skate Session At Oaks Park – Portland ; 1/18; 10:30am to 12:00pm; For $6 children 10 and under can skate (skates included). Parents free with paid child admission.

*Rain City Rock Out! at Rain City Coffee – Portland; 1/18; 11:00am – 12:00pm; Mo Phillips jams his originals, classic family jams, and supa sweet familiar pop tunes to charge up your Saturday!  Cost:  $5 suggested donation

*Winter Powwow at PCC Sylvania  – Portland; 1/18; 12:00pm – 9:00pm; More than 1,000 attendees are expected for the “Wacipi” (“They Dance”) Winter Powwow in the Health Technology Building, Sylvania Campus (12000 SW 49th Ave.). The powwow will feature drum groups and dancers from across the region, Native American crafts and food, activities for children, and raffle prizes. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is also free. The grand entries (dancing and drumming) are at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the free community dinner gets underway at 5:30 p.m. In addition, a college fair will be open from noon to 4 p.m.   Proceeds from the powwow support the Native American Student Scholarship, which aims to increase access and retention of Native American students at PCC.

*Oregon Pacific Railroad Train Rides at Rail Heritage Center – Portland; 1/18; 1:00pm – 5:00pm; The Oregon Pacific Railroad is offering round trip diesel locomotive powered passenger train rides to the public from the Oregon Rail Heritage Center, located near OMSI. The OPR is a full size freight railroad that runs along the Willamette River, through Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, next to the Springwater Trail. Passenger trains will operate on Saturdays and depart the Oregon Rail Heritage Center at 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm and 4:30 pm. Rides last approximately 45 minutes. Locomotive cab rides are available for an additional fee.  Cost:  $5

*Junior Gardener’s Club: Winter Art Project at Oregon Garden – Silverton; 1/18; 2:00pm – 3:30pm; Bring the kids out to the Junior Gardener’s Club at The Oregon Garden  to become inspired by nature, and create an art project. Come prepared for the weather because we’ll venture into the Garden to view the winter landscape with an artistic eye, then come inside to create an art piece inspired by the Garden.  Free for Rose level Garden members and above, those pre-registered are only $3, while drop-ins are $5. *The Alphabeticians at Cafe au Play – Portland; 1/19; 10:00am – 11:00am; Fun music for kids and families! Come and sing and dance, learn the alphabet backwards, eat a delicious breakfast, drink some coffee (grown-ups only!) and start your Sunday off right.  Cost:  $5 per child

*PAM Family Tour – Portland; 1/19; 12:30pm; Bring your family to explore the Museum with a docent skilled at engaging visitors of all ages.  Tours are free for members or with Museum admission, and free for children age 17 and younger.

*The David Show! at Rain City Coffee – Portland; 1/19; 1:00pm – 2:00pm; Musical variety show for children of all ages and their families, now on Mondays.

Monday, January 20th:

*Story Time with Olive and Dingo at Laurelhurst Cafe - Portland; 1/20; 10:00am – 11:00am; Fun for all. Not your average Story Time!! Full of comedy, songs, stories, balloons and laughter. Sure to get the jumpers jumping, the dancers dancing, wigglers wiggling and the noise makers cooing. Olive and Dingo are bright and cheery, cartoony characters who love inspiring kids and families to be silly, to love imrove and creative performance and to be the best audience members Portland has ever known! *Tallulah’s Daddy at Rain City Coffee – Portland; 1/13; 10:00am – 11:00am; Tallulah’s Daddy plays fun, energetic acoustic music for your little ones, and you can grab some coffee, tea or a snack. They start with musical storytime, then sing songs, and leave a little bit of extra time for the kids to get their hands on some percussion instruments!  No cover charge, donations appreciated.

*Beads, Buttons and Bracelets at Imagine: Play – McMinnville; 1/20; 10:00am – 4:00pm; No School Day! Special crafting tables will be open, with paper bead making, button bracelet materials, the jeweled leather like bracelet we’ve done previously, and various other supplies for creating a variety of fun beads and bracelets. Projects skill level mostly at grade school age, but some projects will be suitable for the littles, with help from their grown-ups. Open Play 9 to 5, project tables open 10 to 4.  Cost:  $4 age 2 under, $6 age 3 up

*Washington County Museum Free Admission – Portland; 1/20; 10:00am – 4:30pm; Admission is free to this museum every Monday.

*The David Show at Cafe au Play – Portland; 1/20; 10:30am – 11:30am; Fun and interactive musical variety show performed by David Rutiezer. Fun for all ages! Cost:  $3 suggested donation

*Turtle and Rabbit – Penny’s Puppets at Central Lutheran Church – Portland; 1/20;  Rodney the Rabbit thinks he is the fastest animal around and is so busy exercising he never stops to eat, sleep or even make friends, until the day Myrtle the Turtle challenges Rodney to a race. Root for and sing along with your favorite character as the race unfolds.  (Cash, check, or credit please pay at the door) Free stickers, coffee and tea.  Cost:  $5 each or 4 guests for $17

*Intergenerational Sing-Along at Cafe au Play – Portland; 1/20; 11:30am – 12:15pm; Join The Singing Hearts Club, an intergenerational sing-along every Monday at Cafe Au Play from 11:30-12:15. Toddlers, elders and everyone in between enjoy time together sharing songs, stories and simple movements.  $5 buys you the chance to request any song and Mrs. Harrington will learn it and play it at next week’s gathering!

*MLK Day Friendship Garland Craft at Green Bean Books – Portland; 1/20; 1:00pm – 5:00pm; Martin Luther King, Jr. was all about briging people together. Celebrate his legacy by creating your very own Friendship Garland. Stop by anytime between 1-5pm January 20th, for this free event.

*The Young Hearts Club Toddler Sing-along at Papaccino’s Coffee Shop – Portland; 1/21; 10:00am – 10:30am; Join The Young Hearts Club, led by Heather Harrington, and sing and dance along with your favorite children’s songs.  Simple movements, positive messages, and a supportive environment for parents and children to enJoy the joy of music. *Mo Phillips Party Time! at Oregon Public House – Portland; 1/22; 5:00pm – 6:00pm; Join Mo for some excellent family rock out dinner action. Great food! Great beers! Great pub! Great tunes! The Oregon Public House is a non-profit pub that sends all profits to local charities — and you get to choose which charity on the list you would like your funds to go to!

*St Johns Swapnplay Playspace Open Play - Portland; 1/23; 10:00am – 12:00pm; Free to all! This is a chance to come learn, play and grow. Free toddler/preschooler art class from 10-11. First come first served as we run out of materials after 15 students. Open Play is an open time for non-members to enjoy the space. This is also a great time to learn about membership should you be interested.

*Storytime at A Children’s Place Bookstore – Portland;1/23 ; 10:30am – 11:00am; Enjoy this free weekly storytime at the lovely A Children’s Place Bookstore.  A variety of books for different age ranges will be read.  FREE.

*Storytime with Olive and Dingo at Another Read Through  – Portland; 1/23;  3:00pm; Olive Rootbeer and Dingo will read stories, sing songs, make balloon animals, and generally entertain and whoop it up with any kids and grownups who stop by.  Donations welcome.

*Storytime at Green Bean Books – Portland; 1/23; 3:30pm – 4:00pm; GBB is  now offering a second weekly story time! Join us any Thursday afternoon, 3:30-4:00pm for stories and laughter!  FREE
