Ward Melville High School’s SHARP (Students Helping and Reaching Peers) club members regularly engage in community service projects throughout the school year. As part of a team-building activity, members of the club and their adviser, Amy Cusumano, recently explored Avalon Park in Stony Brook. During the event, the students enjoyed learning about their fellow club members and participating in team bonding activities.

The club’s 40 members, from grades 10 through 12, often volunteer at local soup kitchens and act as mentors for elementary students and peers with special needs. Additionally, club members volunteered at this year’s homecoming carnival and high school Trick-or-Treat Street. The organization is in the process of planning a winter dance to benefit a local family dealing with the financial strain caused by a cancer diagnosis, as well as its popular “Zumba for Autism” event in April.
