While Thornton Tomasetti’s contributions can be seen in skylines around the world, you can also find the firm’s influence on a smaller scale, and sometimes right outside our front door. As most who have visited our New York, Madison Ave. office have likely seen, the adjacent Madison Square Park hosts large ongoing outdoor art exhibits featuring the work of several world-renowned artists. Since the Mad. Sq. Art Program was founded in 2004, Thornton Tomasetti has been involved with approximately 20 of these artworks, providing pro bono structural consulting to the Madison Square Park Conservancy. This week Vice Chairman Aine Brazil, who is a trustee of the conservancy, was honored at the 12th annual Mad. Sq. Award Breakfast for her and the firm’s involvement in the neighborhood. “Thornton Tomasetti is proud to be able to make a contribution to the Mad. Sq. Art program. After all, the park is our backyard and our employees are among the public who enjoy the changing art installations,” Aine, who was presented with an award donated by Tiffany and Co., said. “Some of my personal favorites have been Roxy Paine, Antony Gormley and ‘Echo’ by Jaume Plensa. Thanks to John Barry and Christopher Ward for all of their hard work collaborating with the artists through the years.” Madison Square Park is one of the oldest public parks in the U.S., and is maintained through a public/private partnership between New York City Parks & Recreation and Madison Square Park Conservancy. “As a prominent leader in the Mad. Sq. Park neighborhood, Aine manages the team that donates the significant engineering needs related to the Mad. Sq. Art program,” the organization said in a statement.
