Every now and then it hits me just how quickly Keira is growing up. Yesterday she was wandering around the house with a pink Hello Kitty purse over her shoulder pretending to shop for groceries, and I realized she’s not a baby anymore. She’s turning into a big kid right in front of my eyes!

Even though Keira’s growing up, she still sleeps in her crib sidecarred to our bed, and this child is a restless sleeper. It’s not uncommon for me to wake up with her feet in my stomach or stretched across me. A regular blanket wouldn’t last an hour on her, so I keep her warm with a wearable blanket every night. I’ve used Halo SleepSacks with both my girls since birth, and they’ve always kept my babies safe as well as warm.

As Keira gets older and more mobile, the next logical step is to move up to the Big Kids style of SleepSack with foot openings. I received this micro-fleece HALO Sleepsack Big Kids in size 2-3 years for review. This style of SleepSack looks oversized, but it’s important to remember that it’s a wearable blanket, not a sleeper. It’s designed to be roomy enough for kids to pull their feet in at bedtime and kick and move their feet around inside it. Keira’s only 19 months old, so this SleepSack has lots of room to grow into. I think she’ll be able to wear it until she transitions to a toddler bed and real blankets.

The foot openings are genius. Other wearable blankets can only be used in bed, but with these foot openings, Keira can wear her Big Kids SleepSack while she’s playing or snuggled up reading stories with me, and she stays warm yet still mobile. She had a similar SleepSack Early Walker in a smaller size so she already knew to stick her feet through the openings for easy walking. Keira loves the adorable little elephant applique on the front and often gives it a couple of hello pats when I first put the SleepSack on her. The zipper zips from the bottom for easy diaper changes in the middle of the night. The only thing is, while I like that feature right now, I’m not sure how well the reverse zipper will work when we start potty training.

The Early Walker and Big Kids SleepSacks come in micro-fleece (like the one I reviewed), comfort mesh (Early Walker only), and now in a new lightweight knit fabric. I like that I can choose different weight options depending on the season. HALO SleepSacks are made from 100% polyester and very reasonably priced. While I usually prefer natural materials, one bonus of using micro-fleece is that if Keira’s diaper leaks a little, the fleece repels the moisture and helps keep the sheets dry. The material is soft to the touch and easy to care for. Just throw the SleepSack in the washing machine with like colours. Plus I love how quickly the fleece dries!
