Anonymous: I’m sure you gotten this question before but I can’t find it
specifically in the faq or links. If the character I am looking to
cosplay wears yukata should I avoid cosplaying them? In the movie, they
are at a festival, but obviously I won’t be, so I’m not sure.

Anonymous: Hello, I’m a white european and I was considering cosplaying a character
who wears traditional shinsengumi uniform. Is that a no-go? If so, is
there a rough outline of what sort of traditional garments shouldn’t be
used for cosplay purposes?

Anonymous: hi sorry to bother but i need to ask since i was arguing with someone
that she can’t wear a kimono for cosplay and (i’m japanese myself) and
she kept on giving pointers like when someone wears *outfit from her
culture* for cosplay because the character wears it she’s fine with it
and i still said it was wrong to wear a kimono for cosplay w various
reasons like disrespect, appropriation, and of course improper use of it
as a cultural item in general, was it right of me to do that?

Anonymous: Hello! I couldn’t find this question/answer in the FAQ (though I found
variations of it) so I thought it would be best to ask directly. Is it
okay to cosplay a character from an anime that wears a kimono if you are
not Japanese? Thank you! Your blog is extremely helpful btw!

Anonymous: Is it bad to cosplay a character who wears a kimono? I want to cosplay
Yuuko Ichihara in her butterfly kimono, but I don’t know if it’s okay…

Anonymous: I read the FAQ, but I’m still not sure, is it okay to cosplay a character who wears a kimono ? (Example : Inuyasha)

The search tool is actually really great.
