This is like luminescent paint on steroids. Poland has unveiled a new form of synthetic material that gathers sunlight during the day and expels it for 10 hours at night. Inspired by a Dutch project that lit up a bike path a la Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”, the bike path lights up the path and marks two separate lanes – walking and cycling. The cycling lane is bright blue with a non-luminescent outline of a bike. The walking part is the inverse of that.

Best of all, with a thin coat of luminescent material, this project is much more sustainable and feasible than previous solar roadway designs.

The designers behind the project hope that it takes off and spreads to other parts of the world. Check it out below!
