A chatty blog post today about something that's been on my mind these last few months. And that is fashion blogging. When I started this blog I loved clothes and styling. I still do! But on the whole, I think fashion blogs have now morphed into something completely separate to anything I remember. These days successful fashion blogs are those written by models who regularly post glossy professional looking photos wearing brand new (often expensive) outfits. There is a place online for these blogs; they're insanely popular! And I do love scrolling through beautiful images on famous fashion sites. It's like flicking through the pages of Vogue. In many ways these blogs are on par if not one step ahead of the magazines.

But what made me want to start writing This Fashion is Mine was reading the blogs of those girls who posted real life 'this is what I'm genuinely wearing on a Tuesday' outfits. From their bedroom, with a plain wall or messy room as their backdrop. Instead of a sponsored post made up entirely of gifted products that only the wealthy could afford, they had a new pair of jeans from Topshop, a knock off designer bag, perhaps the odd gifted item. I was impressed, I was inspired, I could actually buy that bag too! The quality of blogging has increased tenfold which is amazing to see. I want to post quality photos and content of course, but I can't and don't want to compete with the professional fashion bloggers of today. They are great at what they do, it takes hard work and determination. Over the years this blog has become more 'lifestyle' themed as I enjoy writing about a bit of everything (hence the style, beauty, life tagline) and the fashion has taken a backseat.

Albeit a little nervously, I've started to blog about fashion and style again. You may have spotted my new What I'm Wearing series that I hope to keep up with. It's about personal style and practical clothes. I want to share my real-life outfits on This Fashion is Mine. But first there are some things you should know....

I wear the same outfit more than once. I mainly buy clothes in the sale. I have items in my wardrobe that have been there for years and I still want to wear them! I don't have an income that allows me to shop for new clothes every weekend. I might treat myself to a dress or a top once in a while. I rarely go on shopping sprees anymore. I shop online 95% of the time. I don't make an effort when I'm staying indoors working from home, I'll be wearing a big old jumper and joggers. My wardrobe is a beautiful rainbow of black, grey and white. I like comfortable clothes. I don't leave my style comfort zone very much. I'm very grateful to receive samples from companies when it happens, and I choose carefully who I want to work with and what I want to feature on This Fashion is Mine.

I may be a professional photographer but running a business leaves me with hardly any time to take creative outfit photos of myself! I'm usually behind the camera. Once in a while I like making the effort with a tripod and a remote. It's surprising how much time it takes to dress yourself, pose for (flattering) pictures and edit them. Before you know it any usable natural light has disappeared!

So my plan of action for the future is to go my own way, not to feel disheartened that I can't post about fashion in the way that others do. Just post what I can manage. My style might not be to everyone's taste. It might not be particularly inspirational. It's usually just skinny jeans and a lot of black. But I am inspired by the way people put clothes together and will look for my own versions of those pieces to make up an outfit of my own. I hope my readers (that's you) can find the same enjoyment from this blog. Many thanks for reading if you made it this far! I'd love to know if anyone shares my views and/or writes a blog that goes against the norm when it comes to fashion blogging.
