Celebrate Earth day with a recycled earth planter. This craft uses a world map to help the crafter paint a realistic world map effortlessly.

Fun for both the old and young and leaves you with a pretty and functional planter for your houseplants. Make it with the whole family so that you have a bunch of little earths to grow in.

Materials:

400 mL tin can

Printed world map – downloadable pdf: World Map Printable 400mL can

Acrylic paint

Paintbrushes

Mod Podge or school glue mixed with a bit of water

Scissors

Hammer and nail

Instructions:

Get a tin can that was opened with a can opener that leaves the edges of the can smooth. Clean the can and make sure any sharp parts are pushed down flat with pliers. Print the world map that fits your tin can and cut it out.

Apply a thin even layer of glue to the entire can and to the back of the map.

Carefully place the map onto the can. Rub it so that the map presses into the groves of the can and there are no air bubbles.

Paint the map following the colours. I like the look when this is done a bit abstractly so don’t worry about following the lines or colors perfectly.

Once the paint is fully dry seal the planter with two or three layers of glue, Mod Podge, or a waterproof sealer.

Using the hammer and nail poke a few drainage holes in the bottom of your planter. Your planter is now ready for a plant.
