Now that you’ve gotten the costumes made and they’ve been worn for trick or treating and all of the parties for the year. What’s next? Scrap all of the pictures you’ve taken of the fun times you had either creating it or wearing it. Get creative and add more fun to the season with those fabulous layouts you create around it.
Here are some fun ideas and techniques to use to make your layout interactive.
Use some of your favorite dies and die cut machine to create warning signs, doors and windows. Here the Arched Windows 1 die by Spellbinders was used to cut a piece of kraft paper into the shape of an old wooden door. Then, it was run through an embossing folder and then inked using a brown ink pad. After that, it was put into a paper trimmer (Tonic V-Blade Trimmer used) and cut in half to create the doors.
Then, the photo was cut using the same die and a small line of photo safe glue was added along each side to adhere the doors over the photo.
Add Washi Tape around the picture to cover any white edges that you don’t want showing. This makes a great additional dimension to the photo and to the layout.
Punch 2 holes into the doors using a hole punch and then set to eyelets (Crop-A-Dile used here) into the holes.
Pull a piece of twine through the eyelets and knot one end so it won’t pull back through.
On the other end add a key (Staples Ornate Metal Keys by Graphic 45 used) and tie a knot around it to hold it into place. This will prevent this end of the twine from slipping back through the eyelet when the door is opened.
Create graduating sized tags for journaling pieces and to hold fun stickers (Chillingsworth Manor Alphabet Stickers by Echo Park were used on this layout).
To create the tag, choose 3 or more different colors of card stock and cut into various sized rectangles. Be sure to keep the length longer than the width.
Find the center of the card stock on the narrowest side and mark it. Measure ¾” inches from the center on each side for larger sized tags and mark them. For smaller sized tags, measure 1” from the center. Measure ½” from the top on the long side and make a mark. Connect the 2 marks and then trim off the corners. You can use a pair of scissors to do this step.
Punch holes into the center of each tag and set an eyelet into each hole.
Pull a piece of twine through the holes and connect all of the tags together. Add a fun sticker to the first tag to gather interest in opening the tags up to read each one. You can, also, add stickers to the rest of the tags for more fun.
Using a tape runner or ATG tool, run tape on the back of the largest tag and adhere it to the layout. Chillingsworth Manor Damask Stripe by Echo Park was chosen for the background patterned paper on this layout.
Warn those who look at the layout to open those doors at their own risk to bring a spirit of fun to seeing what’s behind them. Add a beware sign and finish off the tombstone that was created using the Arched Windows 1 die by using the alphabet message to create the warnings.
