The 43rd annual People’s Choice Awards celebrated the most popular stars in film and TV on Wednesday night, and with just a few hours until Donald Trump takes office, the new president was on everyone’s minds.
“2016 was a very interesting year,” said Joel McHale, hosting from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
“We all watched as a longtime government insider squared off against an egotistical billionaire. I’m speaking, of course, about ‘Captain America: Civil War.'”

The former “Community” star also joked that the show was “the one night of the year where Hollywood reacts positively to what the middle of the country thinks.”

In her acceptance speech for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress for “The Shallows,” Blake Lively gave a shout out to all the women in the audience.
“When you voted for this, you didn’t just vote for my movie or me, but you voted for girl power, it’s true!” she said. “And men voted for girl power, too, and you guys are awesome for doing that. So thank you for sending a message to Hollywood that people want to hear stories about women, and we want to hear your stories.”
